Bible Texts:
Temptation:
something that causes a strong urge or
desire to have or do something and especially something that is bad,
wrong, or unwise
Merriam-Webster
Matthew 4:1-11 KJV
1 Then was Jesus led up of The
Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when he had fasted forty days
and forty nights, He was afterward an hungered.
3 And when the tempter came to Him,
he said, If thou be The Son Of God,
command that these stones be made
bread.
4 But He answered and said, It is
written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that
proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the devil taketh Him up into
the holy city, and setteth Him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto Him, If thou be
The Son Of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give
His angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear
thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is
written again, Thou shalt not tempt The Lord thy God.
8 Again, the devil taketh Him up
into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth Him all the kingdoms of
the world, and the glory of them;
9 And saith unto Him, All these
things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get
thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship The Lord thy
God, and Him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth Him, and,
behold, angels came and ministered unto Him.
The devil tempted and taunted The Lord
Jesus for forty days. Matthew and Luke only mention three such
temptations at the end of the forty days.
Bread, we are to trust, and give
thanks, to our Living Father, when we have bread, or if we do not
have bread. The Lord, created the bread, and the one who eats it, His
Word alone sustains all life.
Deuteronomy 8:3 NLT
Yes, He humbled you by letting you
go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown
to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not
live by bread alone; rather, we live by every Word that comes from
the mouth of The Lord.
Yes, our Lord was hungry, but He
looking at Lucifer, stated, “ It
is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that
proceedeth out of the mouth of God,”:and who better to realize this
message then the one who rebelled against such heavenly Truth.
The
Pinnacle of the Temple.
The devil not wanting to be undone by scripture, misquoted scripture,
himself, and in his misquoting, he left out the words “To
keep thee in all thy ways.”
Matthew 4:5,6
KJV
5 Then the devil taketh Him up into
the holy city, and setteth Him on a pinnacle of the temple,
6 And saith unto Him, If thou be
The Son Of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give
His angels charge concerning thee: (Lucifer's
omission) and in their hands they shall bear thee
up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7
Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt
not tempt The Lord thy God.
Psalm
91:11,12 KJV
11
For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep
thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall
bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
This heavenly protection is not in the ways of man's own choosing,
but in the ways of God's direction.
“ Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt
The Lord thy God.”
Deuteronomy 6:16 KJV
Ye shall not tempt The Lord your God, as ye tempted Him in
Massah (No meat-gift of the quail).
And the angels of God remained with The Lord because He followed The
Word and direction of The Living Father, and not ostentatious works
of self-aggrandizement
The Kingdoms of the world.
The first Adam had sinned and lost title to the world.
The Second Adam, through His righteous, victorious cross, regained
that title, He would not need any cross-less gifts from Lucifer.
Psalm 2:7,8 KJV
7 I will declare the decree: The Lord hath said unto Me, Thou art
My Son; this day have I begotten thee.
8 Ask of Me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine
inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Matthew 4:10,11 KJV
10 Then saith
Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt
worship The Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve.
11 Then the devil leaveth Him, and, behold, angels came and
ministered unto Him.
Our Lord And Faithful High
Priest:
Isaiah 63:9 NLT
In all their suffering He also suffered, and He personally rescued
them. In His love and mercy He redeemed them. He lifted them up and
carried them through all the years.
Hebrews 4:15 KJV
For we have not an High Priest which cannot be touched with the
feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we
are, yet without sin.
Hebrews 4:15 NLT
This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for He faced
all of the same testings we do, yet He did not sin.
Hebrews 2:17,18 NLT
17 Therefore, it was necessary for Him to be made in every respect
like us, His brothers and sisters, so that He could be our merciful
and faithful High Priest before God. Then He could offer a sacrifice
that would take away the sins of the people.
18 Since He Himself has gone through suffering and testing, He is
able to help us when we are being tested.
