Bible Error - Galatians 6:2 & 5

Bible Questions Answered:
“Bible error, Ok how about Galatians 6:2, and 5, both cannot be true!...”
Kelly/ Pomona, California U.S.A.

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:

Galatians 6:2 KJV
Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Galatians 6:2 NLT
Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.

Galatians 6:5 KJV
For every man shall bear his own burden.

Galatians 6:5 NLT
For we are each responsible for our own conduct.

The Biblical Text:

Galatians 6:1-5 KJV
1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

John 13:34 KJV
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye
love one another; as I have loved you, that ye
also love one another.

3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
5 For every man shall bear his own burden.

Galatians 6:1-5 NLT
1 Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are Godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.
2 Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.

John 13:34 KJV
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye
love one another; as I have loved you, that ye
also love one another.

3 If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important.
4 Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.
5 For we are each responsible for our own conduct.

Could the dear Apostle, have contradicted himself within one chapter, of a letter to the Galatians?
No!

A cursory view of these two texts (Galatians 6:2,5 KJV) would certainly seem that they are diametrically opposed, but a proper exegetical review, show us that they are both independent truths of each other.

This sixth chapter to the Galatians is the concern of spiritual restoration, restoring back slidden Christian people, to repentance, and service to their Lord, and Savior.

Galatians 6:2 KJV
Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

The Apostle Paul also wrote in another place ….

Romans 12:15 KJV
Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

If the church of The Lord Jesus Christ should be noted for anything, certainly it must be for it's compassion: As Christian people, we are to bear, our brothers and sisters burdens.

COMPASSION:

Psalm 78:37,38 KJV
37 For their heart was not right with Him, neither were they steadfast in His covenant.
38 But He, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, and destroyed them not: yea, many a time turned He His anger away, and did not stir up all His wrath.

Psalm 86:15 KJV
But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, long suffering, and plenteous in mercy and Truth.

Lamentations 3:21-23 KJV
21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
22 It is of The Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Micah 7:19 KJV
He will turn again, He will have compassion upon us; He will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

Matthew 9:36 KJV
But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

Matthew 14:14 KJV
And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and He healed their sick.

Matthew 15:32 KJV
Then Jesus called His disciples unto Him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with Me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.

Matthew 20:34 KJV
So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him.

Mark 1:41 KJV
And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth His hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.

Luke 7:13-15 KJV
13 And when The Lord saw her, He had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.
14 And He came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And He said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.
15 And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And He delivered him to his mother.

And now concerning Paul's words in verse 5...

Galatians 6:5 KJV (Apostle Paul)
For every man shall bear his own burden.

Is this an error, seeing how the Apostle has already instructed us to Galatians 6:2 KJV Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ”?

No! In the first place (Galatians 6:2 KJV) the beloved Apostle was talking about the “fallen.”
Galatians 6:2 KJV
Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

In the second case (Galatians 6:5 KJV) the Apostle was talking to Christian Helpers, Christian Restorers. According to the Apostle Paul, both groups have burdens.
Galatians 6:5 KJV
For every man shall bear his own burden.

It is so easy to think ourselves “holier than thou,” over the life of a fallen Christian.

Matthew 7:1-5 KJV
1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?
5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

Luke 18:9-14 KJV
9 And He spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

The simple truth, the Apostle says is that not only does the fallen have a burden, the burden of sin, but every and any, Christian helper, has a burden of besetting sins (Hebrews 12:1) as well!

What, pastor I don't have any burden, what are you talking about?”

That is exactly what the Apostle was talking about, Christian people who do not recognize, that they in their Christian walk, “have not,” yet reached spiritual perfection!!

Oh, there are many today, walking about thinking to themselves that they have spiritually arrived, but they are deceiving only themselves!

Hear John well...
I John 3:2 KJV
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.

Question: According to John, are there any totally sanctified Christians in today's world?
Answer: No.

We will only ever reach that day of perfection, when we have seen, and been in the presence of
The Lord.

So what is the picture Paul is trying to give us here?

Imperfect Christians through meekness and lowliness of mind and heart, trying to lift a fallen brother, to restoration and faithful service.

That is what the sixth chapter of Galatians is all about.
In that restoration process, Christians must not....

Galatians 6:3 KJV
...think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

"There but for the grace of God go I"
John Bradford (1510–1555) was an English Reformer, and martyr.

Revelation 3:17 KJV (Christs' Message to the Church in Laodicea)
You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.

Psalm 55:22 KJV (Christian People)
Cast thy burden upon The Lord, and He shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer (permit) the righteous to be moved.

Imperfect Christians (with their own burden, of besetting sins), must minister through the
Fruits of God's Spirit.”

Jude 1:22,23 KJV
22 And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering.
23 Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.

Galatians 5:22,23 KJV
22 But the fruit of The Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Ephesians 5:9 KJV
(For the fruit of The Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and Truth;)

These fruits “must,” be found in the heart and life of the restorer!

Paul speaks again...and leaves us an example for all Christian people, everywhere.

II Corinthians 1:12 NLT
We can say with confidence and a clear conscience that we have lived with a God-given holiness and sincerity in all our dealings. We have depended on God’s grace, not on our own human wisdom. That is how we have conducted ourselves before the world, and especially toward you.
