Idols

Bible Questions Answered:
“Pastor we were wondering about the subject of religious paintings or pictures. Many of us have them in our homes, could this be considered idol worship?...”
Benita/ Pasadena, California U.S.A.

Bible Answer:
Bible Texts:

Here are the 10 Commandments as given to Moses from The Lord:

Exodus 20:1-17 KJV
1 And God spake all these words, saying,
2 I am The Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

(First Commandment.)
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.

(Second Commandment.)
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I The Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me;
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me, and keep My commandments.

(Third Commandment.)
7 Thou shalt not take the name of The Lord thy God in vain; for The Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain.

(Fourth Commandment.)
8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of The Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days The Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore The Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

(Fifth Commandment.)
12 Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which The Lord thy God giveth thee.

(Sixth Commandment.)
13 Thou shalt not kill.

(Seventh Commandment.)
14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.

(Eighth commandment.)
15 Thou shalt not steal.

(Ninth Commandment.)
16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

(Tenth commandment.)
17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's.

There is a church that drops the second commandment and in turn makes the third commandment numbers two and three, totally eliminating verses 4-6, (The Second Commandment.)

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I The Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me;
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me, and keep My commandments.

Why, would any church do that?
They would do that because their church is filled with statues to be bowed down to, and statues of saints to be prayed to!

Idols and or Idolatry: (In light of the Word of God.)

Exodus 20:4-6 KJV
[4] Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
[5] Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me;
[6] And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me, and keep My commandments.

Leviticus 26:1 KJV
Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.

Leviticus 26:1 NLT
Do not make idols or set up carved images, or sacred pillars, or sculptured stones in your land so you may worship them. I am the Lord your God.

Deuteronomy 4:15,16 NLT
15 “But be very careful! You did not see the Lord’s form on the day He spoke to you from the heart of the fire at Mount Sinai.
16 So do not corrupt yourselves by making an idol in any form—whether of a man or a woman,

Jeremiah 10:1-5,14-16 NLT
1 Hear the word that the Lord speaks to you, O Israel!
2 This is what the Lord says:“Do not act like the other nations, who try to read their future in the stars. Do not be afraid of their predictions, even though other nations are terrified by them.
3 Their ways are futile and foolish. They cut down a tree, and a craftsman carves an idol.
4 They decorate it with gold and silver and then fasten it securely with hammer and nails so it won’t fall over.
5 Their gods are like helpless scarecrows in a cucumber field! They cannot speak, and they need to be carried because they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of such gods, for they can neither harm you nor do you any good.”
14 The whole human race is foolish and has no knowledge! The craftsmen are disgraced by the idols they make, for their carefully shaped works are a fraud. These idols have no breath or power.
15 Idols are worthless; they are ridiculous lies! On the day of reckoning they will all be destroyed.
16 But the God of Israel is no idol! He is the Creator of everything that exists,...

Habakkuk 2:18-20 KJV
[18] What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols?
[19] Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.
[20] But the LORD is in His holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before Him.

Acts 17:29 KJV
Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.

Isaiah 42:8 KJV
I am the LORD: that is My name: and My glory will I not give to another, neither My praise to graven images.

Isaiah 44:9-20 NLT
9 How foolish are those who manufacture idols. These prized objects are really worthless. The people who worship idols don’t know this, so they are all put to shame.
10 Who but a fool would make his own god— an idol that cannot help him one bit?
11 All who worship idols will be disgraced along with all these craftsmen—mere humans— who claim they can make a god. They may all stand together, but they will stand in terror and shame.
12 The blacksmith stands at his forge to make a sharp tool, pounding and shaping it with all his might. His work makes him hungry and weak. It makes him thirsty and faint.
13 Then the wood-carver measures a block of wood and draws a pattern on it. He works with chisel and plane and carves it into a human figure. He gives it human beauty and puts it in a little shrine.
14 He cuts down cedars; he selects the cypress and the oak; he plants the pine in the forest to be nourished by the rain.
15 Then he uses part of the wood to make a fire. With it he warms himself and bakes his bread. Then—yes, it’s true—he takes the rest of it and makes himself a god to worship! He makes an idol and bows down in front of it!
16 He burns part of the tree to roast his meat and to keep himself warm. He says, “Ah, that fire feels good.”
17 Then he takes what’s left and makes his god: a carved idol! He falls down in front of it, worshiping and praying to it.“Rescue me!” he says. “You are my god!”
18 Such stupidity and ignorance! Their eyes are closed, and they cannot see.
Their minds are shut, and they cannot think.
19 The person who made the idol never stops to reflect,“Why, it’s just a block of wood! I burned half of it for heat and used it to bake my bread and roast my meat. How can the rest of it be a god? Should I bow down to worship a piece of wood?”
20 The poor, deluded fool feeds on ashes. He trusts something that can’t help him at all. Yet he cannot bring himself to ask,“Is this idol that I’m holding in my hand a lie?”

Isaiah 46:5-9 NLT
5 “To whom will you compare Me? Who is My equal?
6 Some people pour out their silver and gold and hire a craftsman to make a god from it. Then they bow down and worship it!
7 They carry it around on their shoulders, and when they set it down, it stays there. It can’t even move! And when someone prays to it, there is no answer.
It can’t rescue anyone from trouble.
8 “Do not forget this! Keep it in mind! Remember this, you guilty ones.
9 Remember the things I have done in the past. For I alone am God! I am God, and there is none like Me.

Daniel 3:1-30
Read the story of Nebuchadnezzar's image of gold, and three Godly men who would not bow down to it.

I John 5:21 KJV
Little children, keep yourselves from idols.

Psalm 115:4-9 KJV
[4] Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.
[5] They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:
[6] They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:
[7] They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.
[8] They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them.
[9] O Israel, trust thou in the LORD: He is their help and their shield.

Jeremiah 7:16-20,30 NLT (The Idolatry of Judah) God told the prophet His absolute contempt for idols.
16 “Pray no more for these people, Jeremiah. Do not weep or pray for them, and don’t beg Me to help them, for I will not listen to you.
17 Don’t you see what they are doing throughout the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
18 No wonder I am so angry! Watch how the children gather wood and the fathers build sacrificial fires. See how the women knead dough and make cakes to offer tothe Queen of Heaven*. And they pour out liquid offerings to their other idol gods!
19 Am I the one they are hurting?” asks the Lord. “Most of all, they hurt themselves, to their own shame.”
20 So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “I will pour out My terrible fury on this place. Its people, animals, trees, and crops will be consumed by the unquenchable fire of my anger.”
30 “The people of Judah have sinned before My very eyes,” says the Lord. “They have set up their abominable idols right in the Temple that bears My name, defiling it.

*The Queen of Heaven: The female complement of Baal. She was also known as Ashtoreth, or Astarte.

Acts 14:8-18 NLT (At Lystra/Derbe, Paul and Barnabas confront the crowds.)
8 While they were at Lystra, Paul and Barnabas came upon a man with crippled feet. He had been that way from birth, so he had never walked. He was sitting
9 and listening as Paul preached. Looking straight at him, Paul realized he had faith to be healed.
10 So Paul called to him in a loud voice, “Stand up!” And the man jumped to his feet and started walking.
11 When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they shouted in their local dialect, “These men are gods in human form!”
12 They decided that Barnabas was the Greek god Zeus and that Paul was Hermes, since he was the chief speaker.
13 Now the temple of Zeus was located just outside the town. So the priest of the temple and the crowd brought bulls and wreaths of flowers to the town gates, and they prepared to offer sacrifices to the apostles.
14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard what was happening, they tore their clothing in dismay and ran out among the people, shouting,
15 “Friends, why are you doing this? We are merely human beings—just like you! We have come to bring you the Good News that you should turn from these worthless things and turn to the living God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them.
16 In the past He permitted all the nations to go their own ways,
17 but He never left them without evidence of Himself and His goodness. For instance, He sends you rain and good crops and gives you food and joyful hearts.”
18 But even with these words, Paul and Barnabas could scarcely restrain the people from sacrificing to them.

Acts 15:20,29 KJV
20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well.

Acts 17:16-34 NLT (Idolatry at Athens.)
16 While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was deeply troubled by all the idols he saw everywhere in the city.
17 He went to the synagogue to reason with the Jews and the God-fearing Gentiles, and he spoke daily in the public square to all who happened to be there.
18 He also had a debate with some of the Epicurean and Stoic philosophers. When he told them about Jesus and His resurrection, they said, “What’s this babbler trying to say with these strange ideas he’s picked up?” Others said, “He seems to be preaching about some foreign gods.”
19 Then they took him to the high council of the city. “Come and tell us about this new teaching,” they said.
20 “You are saying some rather strange things, and we want to know what it’s all about.”
21 (It should be explained that all the Athenians as well as the foreigners in Athens seemed to spend all their time discussing the latest ideas.)
22 So Paul, standing before the council, addressed them as follows: “Men of Athens, I notice that you are very religious in every way,
23 for as I was walking along I saw your many shrines. And one of your altars had this inscription on it: ‘To an Unknown God.’ This God, whom you worship without knowing, is the one I’m telling you about.
24 “He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since He is Lord of heaven and earth, He doesn’t live in man-made temples,
25 and human hands can’t serve His needs—for He has no needs. He Himself gives life and breath to everything, and He satisfies every need.
26 From one man He created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and He determined their boundaries.
27 “His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward Him and find Him—though He is not far from any one of us.
28 For in Him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are His offspring.’
29 And since this is true, we shouldn’t think of God as an idol designed by craftsmen from gold or silver or stone.
30 “God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now He commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to Him.
31 For He has set a day for judging the world with justice by the Man He has appointed, and He proved to everyone who this is by raising Him from the dead.”
32 When they heard Paul speak about the resurrection of the dead, some laughed in contempt, but others said, “We want to hear more about this later.”
33 That ended Paul’s discussion with them,
34 but some joined him and became believers. Among them were Dionysius, a member of the council, a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

Acts 19:20-41 NLT (Paul at Ephesus.)
20 So the message about the Lord spread widely and had a powerful effect.
21 Afterward Paul felt compelled by the Spirit to go over to Macedonia and Achaia before going to Jerusalem. “And after that,” he said, “I must go on to Rome!”
22 He sent his two assistants, Timothy and Erastus, ahead to Macedonia while he stayed awhile longer in the province of Asia.
23 About that time, serious trouble developed in Ephesus concerning the Way.
24 It began with Demetrius, a silversmith who had a large business manufacturing silver shrines of the Greek goddess Artemis. He kept many craftsmen busy.
25 He called them together, along with others employed in similar trades, and addressed them as follows: “Gentlemen, you know that our wealth comes from this business.
26 But as you have seen and heard, this man Paul has persuaded many people that handmade gods aren’t really gods at all. And he’s done this not only here in Ephesus but throughout the entire province!
27 Of course, I’m not just talking about the loss of public respect for our business. I’m also concerned that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will lose its influence and that Artemis—this magnificent goddess worshiped throughout the province of Asia and all around the world—will be robbed of her great prestige!”
28 At this their anger boiled, and they began shouting, “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”
29 Soon the whole city was filled with confusion. Everyone rushed to the amphitheater, dragging along Gaius and Aristarchus, who were Paul’s traveling companions from Macedonia.
30 Paul wanted to go in, too, but the believers wouldn’t let him.
31 Some of the officials of the province, friends of Paul, also sent a message to him, begging him not to risk his life by entering the amphitheater.
32 Inside, the people were all shouting, some one thing and some another. Everything was in confusion. In fact, most of them didn’t even know why they were there.
33 The Jews in the crowd pushed Alexander forward and told him to explain the situation. He motioned for silence and tried to speak.
34 But when the crowd realized he was a Jew, they started shouting again and kept it up for two hours: “Great is Artemis of the Ephesians! Great is Artemis of the Ephesians!”
35 At last the mayor was able to quiet them down enough to speak. “Citizens of Ephesus,” he said. “Everyone knows that Ephesus is the official guardian of the temple of the great Artemis, whose image fell down to us from heaven.
36 Since this is an undeniable fact, you should stay calm and not do anything rash.
37 You have brought these men here, but they have stolen nothing from the temple and have not spoken against our goddess.
38 “If Demetrius and the craftsmen have a case against them, the courts are in session and the officials can hear the case at once. Let them make formal charges.
39 And if there are complaints about other matters, they can be settled in a legal assembly.
40 I am afraid we are in danger of being charged with rioting by the Roman government, since there is no cause for all this commotion. And if Rome demands an explanation, we won’t know what to say.”
41 Then he dismissed them, and they dispersed.

Acts 21:15 KJV
As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication.

I Corinthians 8:1-10 NLT
1 Now regarding your question about food that has been offered to idols. Yes, we know that “we all have knowledge” about this issue. But while knowledge makes us feel important, it is love that strengthens the church.
2 Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn’t really know very much.
3 But the person who loves God is the one whom God recognizes.
4 So, what about eating meat that has been offered to idols? Well, we all know that an idol is not really a god and that there is only one God.
5 There may be so-called gods both in heaven and on earth, and some people actually worship many gods and many lords.
6 But for us, There is one God, The Father, by whom all things were created, and for whom we live.
And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created, and through whom we live.
7 However, not all believers know this. Some are accustomed to thinking of idols as being real, so when they eat food that has been offered to idols, they think of it as the worship of real gods, and their weak consciences are violated.
8 It’s true that we can’t win God’s approval by what we eat. We don’t lose anything if we don’t eat it, and we don’t gain anything if we do.
9 But you must be careful so that your freedom does not cause others with a weaker conscience to stumble.
10 For if others see you—with your “superior knowledge”—eating in the temple of an idol, won’t they be encouraged to violate their conscience by eating food that has been offered to an idol?

I Corinthians 10:19-21 KJV
[19] What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing?
[20] But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.
[21] Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.

I Corinthians 10:19-21 NLT
19 What am I trying to say? Am I saying that food offered to idols has some significance, or that idols are real gods?
20 No, not at all. I am saying that these sacrifices are offered to demons, not to God. And I don’t want you to participate with demons.
21 You cannot drink from the cup of the Lord and from the cup of demons, too. You cannot eat at the Lord’s Table and at the table of demons, too.

I Corinthians 12:2 NLT
You know that when you were still pagans, you were led astray and swept along in worshiping speechless idols.

I John 5:21 KJV
Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

And now the question, in a Christians home, pictures, paintings or figures of Jesus, are these idols?
No, because as Christians, we don't pray, sacrifice, or worship them as idols.

If you have friends that break the 2nd Commandment, and don't even know it, show them the scripture in Exodus 20:4-6 and tell them to read the book “Salvation We Are Not Afraid!.”

Be a missionary in your own home town, The Lord Jesus will be with you as you witness for Him!

Matthew 28:18-20 KJV
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of The Father, and of The Son, and of The Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen

Alcoholism

Bible Questions Answered:
“If someone is an alcoholic but says he knows god, will he go to heaven?...”
Emma/ Red Deer, British Columbia Canada

Bible Answer:
Bible Texts:

The question before us is, may a alcoholic enter heaven? Yes, and No.
If a person who is an alcoholic repents of their sin and turns to The Lord Jesus as The Savior, Yes, they will enter heaven.

If a person who is an alcoholic does not repent (about face), of their sin, and does not turn to The Lord Jesus as The Savior, No, they will not enter heaven.

Speaking of heaven.....
Revelation 21:27 KJV
And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

Acts 17:30 NLT
God...commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to Him.

Is there a sin so evil, God will not forgive it, only the sin of absolute rejection.

Matthew 19:26 KJV
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Alcoholism is a growing problem, in our world. When this pastor grew up, in the 40's and 50's the drinker was a greasy questionable character that frequented the saloon at the end of town.

The enemy of our souls was far from content with that scene. Today, advertisement on TV, road signs, etc. show beautiful young people lifting a golden glass of intoxication. How happy they seem, what a great time they are having, unfortunately the things not seen are the lost jobs, the broken families and lost lives, alcohol has left its consumers.

U.S. Department of Health & Human Services
Today alcohol is involved in 37% of all traffic deaths among persons aged 16 to 20.

Analysis by NIH scientists indicate that over 70% of people in crashes caused by alcohol met alcohol dependence criteria, but most have never been arrested or received treatment.

NIH studies revealed that young people who began drinking before age 15 are four times more likely to develop alcohol dependence during their lifetime than those who began drinking at age 21 or later.
Those that drank before age 15 are also seven times more likely to report having been in a traffic crash because of drinking both during adolescence and adulthood.

NBC News
Alcohol abuse kills some 75,000 Americans each year and shortens the lives of these people by an average of 30 years, a U.S. government study suggested Thursday.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which published the study, estimated that 34,833 people in 2001 died from cirrhosis of the liver, cancer and other diseases linked to drinking too much beer, wine and spirits.

Another 40,933 died from car crashes and other mishaps caused by excessive alcohol use.

Researchers considered any man who averaged more than two drinks per day or more than four drinks per occasion to be an excessive drinker. For women it was more than one drink per day or more than three drinks per occasion.

What warning did the Apostle Paul give?

I Corinthians 6:9,10 NLT
9 Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,
10 or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:21 NLT
19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,
20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division,
21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Hebrews 4:7 KJV
"...To day if ye will hear His voice, harden not your hearts.

Isaiah 40:29 KJV
He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might He increaseth strength.

James 4:8-10 KJV
8 Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of The Lord, and He shall lift you up.

Bible Lesson: Intercessory Prayer: Elijah Called Upon The Lord To Prove Himself The Mighty God That He Is.

Bible Lesson: Intercessory Prayer: Elijah Called Upon The Lord To Prove Himself The Mighty God That He Is.

Bible Text:

I Kings 18:36-39 NLT
36 At the usual time for offering the evening sacrifice, Elijah the prophet walked up to the altar and prayed, “O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, prove today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant. Prove that I have done all this at your command.
37 O Lord, answer me! Answer me so these people will know that you, O Lord, are God and that you have brought them back to yourself.”
38 Immediately the fire of The Lord flashed down from heaven and burned up the young bull, the wood, the stones, and the dust. It even licked up all the water in the trench!
39 And when all the people saw it, they fell face down on the ground and cried out, “The Lord—He is God! Yes, The Lord is God!”

Be sure to read I Kings 18:1-46.
It was a contest between the 450 prophets of Baal and The Lord. Elijah had called the prophets of Baal to build an altar and call upon their god to send fire, a sign that their sacrifice was acceptable, and that their god had heard them. But alas nothing happened, Baal was only a wicked illusion.

Time came for the prophet Elijah, (who wanted his people to return to The Lord), to build The Lords altar, calling upon Him to accept their sacrifice by fire, and the fire fell.

Elijah prayed and all Israel knew that their God was the only God, “And when all the people saw it, they fell face down on the ground and cried out, “The Lord—He is God! Yes, The Lord is God!”

And so today, amidst all the false prophets and gospel gainsaying, what is it we must do?

We, as Elijah of old, must have The Fire fall!

II Chronicles 7:14 KJV
If My people, which are called by My name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

II Chronicles 29:11 NLT
My sons, do not neglect your duties any longer! The Lord has chosen you to stand in His presence, to minister to Him, and to lead the people in worship and present offerings to Him.”

Zechariah 1:3 KJV
Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith The Lord Of Hosts; Turn ye unto Me, saith The Lord Of Hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith The Lord Of Hosts.

At Pentecost, the disciples of Jesus, waited for 10 days in prayer, fasting, and calling upon The Lord. Knees bent, hands raised, confessing sin and worshiping The Risen Savior.

Waiting for the baptism of The Holy Spirit and The Holy Spirit's enduement of power.

Acts 2:1-4 KJV
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4 And they were all filled with The Holy Ghost,

I Corinthians 12:13 KJV
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

and began to speak with other tongues, as The Spirit gave them utterance.

Luke 24:49 KJV
And, behold, I send The Promise of My Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be
endued with Power From On High.

Everyday, the challenge lies before us, will we climb the mount, reapir the altar of The Living God,
and place our sacrifice there, beseeching The Lord to send His Fire to consume all that we have given Him?

If we say no, evil around us will only prevail, judgment, not being far off.
If we say yes, evil will be routed and God's people will know victory!

Calling Elijah's Everywhere:

Leviticus 26:8 KJV
And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you

Psalm 91:1-16 KJV
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of The Most High shall abide under the shadow of The Almighty.
2 I will say of The Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress: my God; in Him will I trust.
3 Surely He shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust: His Truth shall be thy Shield (Armor) and Buckler (Protection - NLT).
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made The Lord, which is my Refuge, even The Most High, thy Habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For He shall give His angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because he hath set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known My name.
15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him My Salvation.

I John 4:4 KJV
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Bible Questions Answered:
“I have a question, if satan knows that God Is going to send him to the lake of fire, why does he still go on with what he's doing?
Arnie/ Sydney, Nova Scotia Canada

Bible Answer:
Bible Texts:

I) The Word, says that the eyes of the lost are blinded, they cannot see what lies ahead.

Spiritually Blind:

Matthew 15:14 KJV
Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

John 12:40 KJV
He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

II Corinthians 4:4 KJV
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest
The Light Of the Glorious Gospel Of Christ, who is The Image Of God, should shine unto them.

I John 2:11 KJV
But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

Perhaps the devil thinks that he still may over throw The Living God, but he is spiritually blind, his fate has already been determined.

Revelation 20:10 KJV
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

II) The devil cannot stop doing evil, for his nature has forever been sealed by his own actions!

Our Lord gave us this very informative story concerning the rich man in hell.

Luke 16:19-31 KJV
19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

Once a person dies, their fate is forever sealed, by themselves!
Once the vessel is placed in the kiln, its fate is forever sealed!

The rich mans life was with servants, to wait upon him in his luxury.
So what in the after life?
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
The rich man wanted Lazarus to wait upon him.

The rich man, in life had known only one thing, luxurious selfishness!
So what in the after life?
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

“Thank God, Pastor, the rich man got religion in hell, and this sure shows it.)

James 3:1 NLT
Dear brothers and sisters, not many of you should become teachers in the church, for we who teach will be judged more strictly.

No, no one gets religion in hell. Hell is the eternal prison of the lost.

“Well, what then of the rich mans request?”

The rich man had five brothers, all of which no doubt were following their wealthy brothers example, and who no doubt, would end up in the same eternal hell as he had.

Knowing this, in torment, the rich man realized that his own personal hell had not yet truly begun, but that one by one, his accusing brothers would come to forever, time with out end curse him for the example he had set.

Open your eyes dear friend, do you see the glaring SELFISHNESS,” of his request?
THERE ARE NO FRUITS OF T HE SPIRIT OF GOD IN HELL!

People in hell never change, they are forever cast in the nature they will be time without end.
The devil cannot change!

Satan has already been found guilty, and sentenced to the lake of fire.
His nature of hatred to God, and man (because he is in the image of God), will never end.

If we were able to remove some one from hell, and give them a second chance, what would happen?
If they had been a murderer in life, they would kill again. If they had been a cheat in life, they would lie and cheat again. If they had been a being of hate, they would hate and kill again and again.

Why? Because of their life, choices, once they passed from this life to the next life, this physical life to life that is eternal, they were forever sealed, set by the kiln of death.

Hebrews 9:27 KJV
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Dear friend, this is why it is so important to decide for The Lord Jesus, here and now, and not to allow another moment go by, not having your eternal destiny settled!
After this life, there is no, second chance! One is either saved, or lost.

Hebrews 4:7 KJV
"...To day if ye will hear His voice, harden not your hearts.

John 3:16-18 KJV
16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of The Only Begotten Son Of God.

I John 1:9 KJV
If we confess our sins, He is Faithful and Just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Satyrs

Bible Questions Answered:
“Getting close to halloween, I see the usual costumes of devils with horns and tails. Why don't people realize the devil doesn't look like this, they are so deceived...”
Randy/ San Francisco U.S.A.

Bible Answer:
Bible Texts:

This subject, rests in the area of the devil and his demons.

What did Isaiah think?

Isaiah spoke of Judgment on all nations that do not serve The Lord: (Babylon-Ancient and Modern.)

Isaiah 13:21 KJV (B.C. 713 B.U.)
But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs* shall dance there.

*Satyrs-Hebrew: Saiyr (Saw-eer): He goat; Devil, goat, hairy, kid, rough, satyr.

Isaiah 34:14 KJV (B.C. 713 B.U.)
The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr* shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest.

*(Same as above.)

Satyrs in Greek art were represented as a man with a horse’s ears and tail, but in Roman representations as a man with a goat’s ears, tail, legs, and horn

Origin: Late Middle English: from Old French satyr, or via Latin from Greek saturos.
(Oxford Dictionary)

Halloween (hăl'É™wÄ“n`, häl'–), Oct. 31, the eve of All Saints' Day
Observed with traditional games and customs. The word comes from medieval England's All Hallows' eve [Old Eng. hallow=saint]. However, many of these customs predate Christianity, going back to Celtic practices associated with Nov. 1, which was Samhain (sä`wĭn), the beginning of winter and the Celtic new year. Witches and other evil spirits were believed to roam the earth on this evening, playing tricks on human beings to mark the season of diminishing sunlight. Bonfires were lit, offerings were made of dainty foods and sweets, and people would disguise themselves as one of the roaming spirits, to avoid demonic persecution. Survivals of these early practices can be found in countries of Celtic influence today, such as the United States where children go from door to door in costumes demanding "trick or treat."
(The Free Dictionary: By Farlex)

Lucifer was once a most beautiful Cherub, but he opened a door, that banned him forever, his purity, his calling, his position, and his riches, were forever lost.

Ezekiel 28:13-15 KJV
13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

The opposite of Light is darkness, the opposite of holiness is evil, the opposite of beauty, and attractiveness is grotesqueness, and hideousness.

Satyrs?

But the devil is not stupid, he may change his appearance at will.

II Corinthians 11:13-15 KJV
13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

What is the end of this matter? It is enough for us to follow the dictates of our Lord. Little do we know or realize concerning spiritual domains!

Satan is an arch deceiver:

Genesis 3:4 KJV
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

Matthew 4:6,7 KJV
6 And saith unto Him, If thou be The Son Of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give His angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt The Lord thy God.

II Corinthians 2:11 NLT
so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes.

God's people:

Psalm 2:11,12 NLT
11 Serve The Lord with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling.
12 Submit to God’s royal son, or He will become angry, and you will be destroyed in the midst of all your activities — for His anger flares up in an instant.
But what joy for all who take refuge in Him!

Bible Error: Matthew 5:1-12 Versus Luke 6:20-23

Bible Questions Answered:
“How many beatitudes are there? Some say there are nine, luke says there are four....”
Glen/ Boston, Massachusetts U.S.A.

Bible Answer:
Bible Texts:

Beatitudes: (Blessings-Happy.)

Matthew 5:1-12 KJV
1 And seeing the multitudes, He went up into a mountain: and when He was set, His disciples came unto Him:
2 And He opened His mouth, and taught them, saying,
3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for My sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Luke 6:20-23 KJV
20 And He lifted up His eyes on His disciples, and said,
Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled.
Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.
22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for The Son Of Man's sake.
23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

In Matthew 5: Christ spoke on a mountain, near Capernaum, on a ridge of rolling hills, north west of the city, the Sea of Galilee before it. Our Lord addressed the religious leaders and the crowds.

In Luke 6: Christ spoke while on the plains. Our Lord addressed “His disciples, vs 20.

Two different occasions, two different messages.

Homily:
Pastor's often use a message more than once, using the whole and or only parts of the message (Luke: Beatitudes, one, four, two, and ninth of Matthew 5), as the situation deemed it necessary, this is nothing new, nor wrong. The Lord, is our Shepherd (Pastor).

Psalm 23:1 KJV
The Lord is my Shepherd*..."

*Shepherd-Hebrew: Rachmaniy (Rakh-maw-nee): Compassionate, pitiful.

John 10:11 KJV
I am The Good Shepherd*: The Good Shepherd giveth His life for the sheep.

*Shepherd-Greek: Poimen (Poy-mane): A Shepherd: Pastor.

Keeping the Beatitudes, do not bring salvation, but in the life of a Christian, they do bring blessedness, and happiness.

The Beatitudes, remind us of the Apostle Paul's words concerning spiritual fruits.

Galatians 5:22,23 KJV
22 But the fruit of The Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Ephesians 5:9 KJV
(For the fruit of The Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and Truth;)

What was it Solomon said....

Proverbs 3:13 KJV
Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

Bible Lesson: Intercessory Prayer: “Elijah Prays For The Widow's Son, To Be Restored To Life.

Bible Lesson: Intercessory Prayer: “Elijah Prays For The Widow's Son, To Be Restored To Life.

Bible Text:

I Kings 17:8-24 NLT (The Widow at Zarephath.)
8 Then The Lord said to Elijah,
9 “Go and live in the village of Zarephath, near the city of Sidon. I have instructed a widow there to feed you.”
10 So he went to Zarephath. As he arrived at the gates of the village, he saw a widow gathering sticks, and he asked her, “Would you please bring me a little water in a cup?”
11 As she was going to get it, he called to her, “Bring me a bite of bread, too.”
12 But she said, “I swear by The Lord your God that I don’t have a single piece of bread in the house. And I have only a handful of flour left in the jar and a little cooking oil in the bottom of the jug. I was just gathering a few sticks to cook this last meal, and then my son and I will die.”
13 But Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid! Go ahead and do just what you’ve said, but make a little bread for me first. Then use what’s left to prepare a meal for yourself and your son.
14 For this is what The Lord, The God Of Israel, says: There will always be flour and olive oil left in your containers until the time when The Lord sends rain and the crops grow again!”
15 So she did as Elijah said, and she and Elijah and her family continued to eat for many days.
16 There was always enough flour and olive oil left in the containers, just as The Lord had promised through Elijah.
17 Some time later the woman’s son became sick. He grew worse and worse, and finally he died.
18 Then she said to Elijah, “O man of God, what have you done to me? Have you come here to point out my sins and kill my son?”
19 But Elijah replied, “Give me your son.” And he took the child’s body from her arms, carried him up the stairs to the room where he was staying, and laid the body on his bed.
20 Then Elijah cried out to The Lord, “O Lord my God, why have you brought tragedy to this widow who has opened her home to me, causing her son to die?”
21 And he stretched himself out over the child three times and cried out to The Lord, “O Lord my God, please let this child’s life return to him.”
22 The Lord heard Elijah’s prayer, and the life of the child returned, and he revived!
23 Then Elijah brought him down from the upper room and gave him to his mother. “Look!” he said. “Your son is alive!”
24 Then the woman told Elijah, “Now I know for sure that you are a man of God, and that T Lord truly speaks through you.”

Luke 4:23-26 NLT
23 Then He said, “You will undoubtedly quote Me this proverb: ‘Physician, heal yourself’—meaning, ‘Do miracles here in your hometown like those you did in Capernaum.’
24 But I tell you The Truth, no prophet is accepted in his own hometown.
25 “Certainly there were many needy widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the heavens were closed for three and a half years, and a severe famine devastated the land.
26 Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them. He was sent instead to a foreigner—a widow of Zarephath in the land of Sidon.

The widow of Zarephath, was a woman of faith, Elijah was The Lord's faithful servant.
Never are we so close to defeat, as after a great victory, it was so with Elijah ( I Kings 19), and now true of this widow. She and her son had plenty after blessing the man of God, but now, what good was food, if her son lay dead?

A widow needed her son to take care of her in her old age, for certainly there would be no one else.
Our Lord, well understood this (Luke 7:11-17).

I Kings 17:18 NLT
Then she said to Elijah, “O man of God, what have you done to me? Have you come here to point out my sins and kill my son?”

The Widow of Zarephath, had an intercessor, that was a man of God, Elijah.

I Kings 17:19-21 NLT
19 But Elijah replied, “Give me your son.” And he took the child’s body from her arms, carried him up the stairs to the room where he was staying, and laid the body on his bed.
20 Then Elijah cried out to The Lord, “O Lord my God, why have you brought tragedy to this widow who has opened her home to me, causing her son to die?”
21 And he stretched himself out over the child three times and cried out to The Lord, “O Lord my God, please let this child’s life return to him.”

Some dear poor soul in the church, has said, “This must be the first case ever of resuscitation.”
What was it James said....

James 1:5-8 KJV
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of The Lord.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Why did the young mans life return to him?

I Kings 17:22 NLT
The Lord heard Elijah’s prayer, and the life of the child returned, and he revived!

The Lord heard Elijah's prayer and honored his faith, and brought the young man back to life.

And Jesus said unto them...verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Answered prayer, this is why we as Christians, must hear The Word, and read The Word, so that our faith will grow and be strong.

Do you intercede for anyone? Have your prayers made the difference in any ones life?
