Bible Texts:
Luke 8:26-39 KJV
26 And they
arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against
Galilee.
27 And when He
went forth to land, there met Him out of the city a certain man,
which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither
abode in any house, but in the tombs.
28 When he saw
Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before Him, and with a loud voice
said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most
high? I beseech thee, torment me not.
29 (For he had
commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes
it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters;
and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the
wilderness.)
30 And Jesus
asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion:
because many devils were entered into him.
31 And they
besought Him that He would not command them to go out into the deep*.
*Deep-Greek: Abussos (Ab-us-sos): Depthless, i.e. "abyss":
deep, (bottomless) pit.
32 And there
was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they
besought Him that He would suffer (permit) them to enter into them.
And He suffered them.
33 Then went
the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd
ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked.
34 When they
that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in
the city and in the country.
35 Then they
went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man,
out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of
Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they
were afraid.
36 They also
which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the
devils was healed.
37 Then the
whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought
Him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and He
went up into the ship, and returned back again.
38 Now the man
out of whom the devils were departed besought Him that he might be
with Him: but Jesus sent him away, saying,
39 Return to
thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee.
And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how
great things Jesus had done unto him.
Here is are other situations where evil spirits spoke to Jesus...
Mark 1:23-28 KJV
23 And there
was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried
out,
24 Saying,
Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus Of Nazareth?
art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, The Holy One
Of God.
25 And Jesus
rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
26 And when the
unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out
of him.
27 And they
were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves,
saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with
authority commandeth He even the unclean spirits, and they do obey
Him.
28 And
immediately His fame spread abroad throughout all the region round
about Galilee.
Mark 3:10-12 KJV
10 For He had
healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon Him for to touch Him, as
many as had plagues.
11 And
unclean spirits, when they saw Him, fell down before Him, and cried,
saying, Thou art
The Son Of God.
12 And He
straitly charged them that they should not make Him known.
Luke 4:40,41 KJV
40 Now when the
sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases
brought them unto Him; and He laid His hands on every one of them,
and healed them.
41 And
devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ
The Son Of God. And He rebuking them suffered (permitted) them
not to speak: for they knew that He was Christ.
When's the last time you've heard of a mental patient, crying out to
their doctor, “Thou art Christ The Son Of God!”
No, these were not mental aberrations, but actual evil spirits.
Where did they ever come from? The answer to that question differs
with whom you speak, but most hold to the belief that they are fallen
evil angels.
Only trouble with that belief is...
Jude 1:6 NLT
And I remind
you of the angels who did not stay within the limits of authority God
gave them but left the place where they belonged. God has kept them
securely chained in prisons of darkness, waiting for the great
day of judgment.
Wherever they come from, they are “evil spirits,” who do the
bidding of Satan.
They cause fear, torment, misery, and pain.
How does a person ever become evil spirit possessed? Living a life of
sin, (rebellion against God.), engaging in the occult, or ascribing
the works of God to Satan, opens ones self to possession.
Should a Christian ever fear evil spirits?
John 10:10 KJV
The thief
cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come
that they might have Life, and that they might have it more
abundantly.
II Timothy 1:7
KJV
For God hath
not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a
sound mind.
I John 3:8 KJV
He that
committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the
beginning. For this purpose
The Son Of God
was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
I John 4:4 KJV
Ye are of God,
little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that
is in you, than he that is in the world.
WHEREVER JESUS
WAS, EVIL SPIRITS HAD TO FLEE.
Matthew 9:32,33
KJV
32 As they went
out, behold, they brought to Him a dumb man possessed with a devil.
33 And when the
devil was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marveled,
saying, It was never so seen in Israel.
Matthew 12:22,23
KJV
22 Then was
brought unto Him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and He
healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.
23 And all the
people were amazed..."
Matthew 17:14-21
KJV
14 And when
they were come to the multitude, there came to Him a certain man,
kneeling down to Him, and saying,
15 Lord, have
mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he
falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.
16 And I
brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.
17 Then Jesus
answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long
shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to
Me.
18 And Jesus
rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was
cured from that very hour.
19 Then came
the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him
out?
20 And Jesus
said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you,
If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this
mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and
nothing shall be impossible unto you.
21 Howbeit this
kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
EVIL SPIRITS AND
THEIR DESTINY:
Matthew 25:41
KJV
Then shall He
say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from Me, ye cursed, into
everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
II Peter 2:4 KJV
For if God
spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and
delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
Revelation 19:20
KJV
And the beast
was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles
before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of
the beast, and them that worshiped his image. These both were cast
alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
Christian,
do you have your armor on?
Ephesians
6:10-18 KJV
10
Finally, my brethren, be strong in The Lord, and in the power of His
might.
11
Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand
against the wiles of the devil.
12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness
of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13
Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be
able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with Truth,
and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye
shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of The
Spirit, which is The Word Of God:
18
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in The
Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication
for all saints;
