Bible Error: Genesis 22:1 Versus James 1:13

Bible Questions Answered:
“A bible error exists between Genesis 22:1 and James 1:13. In Genesis it says God tempted Abraham, and yet James says that God tempts no man...”
Ron/ Spokane, Washington U.S.A.

Bible Answer:
Bible Texts:

Genesis 22:1 KJV
And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.

James 1:13 KJV
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth He any man:

This is one good reason why every Christian should have in his or her possession, a Bible Concordance, and or  Interlinear Bible (Original Hebrew or Greek text, with English translation.)

The word “tempted,” in Genesis 22:1 KJV is as follows:

Tempt-Hebrew: Nacah (Naw-saw): To test, assay, prove, try.

The word “tempted,” in James 1:13 KJV is...

Tempted-Greek: Peirazo (Pi-rad-zo): To entice,, to tempt.

Yes both words appear to be the word tempt, but the word tempt in Hebrew is a world apart from the Greek word James uses. This is like comparing apples to oranges, both are fruit yes, but both are “not,” the same whatsoever.

Most translations of the Bible, translate temp (Genesis 22:1), as being tested. (Just a few listed here.)

Genesis 22:1 YLT (Young's Literal Translation)
And it cometh to pass after these things that God hath tried Abraham, and saith unto him, `Abraham;' and he saith, `Here [am] I.'

Genesis 22:1 OJB (Orthodox Jewish Bible)
And it came to pass after these things, that G-d did test Avraham, and said unto him, Avraham: and he said, Hineini (Behold, here I am).

Genesis 22:1 LEB (Lexham English Bible)
And it happened that after these things, God tested Abraham. And he said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”

Genesis 22:1 HCJB (Holman Christian Standard Bible)
After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he answered.

Genesis 22;1 GNT (Good News Translation)
Some time later God tested Abraham; he called to him, “Abraham!” And Abraham answered, “Yes, here I am!”

Genesis 22:1 GNV (1599 Geneva Bible Version)
The faith of Abraham is proved in offering his son Isaac.

Genesis 22:1 ESV (English Standard Version)
After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.”

Genesis 22:1 DT (Darby Translation)
And it came to pass after these things, that God tried Abraham, and said to him, Abraham! and he said, Here am I.

Genesis 22:1 ASV (American Standard Version)
And it came to pass after these things, that God did prove Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham. And he said, Here am I.

Genesis 22:1 NLT
Some time later, God tested Abraham’s faith. “Abraham!” God called. “Yes,” he replied. “Here I am.”

God has every right as Almighty God, to test us. See the blog posting... Bible Error: Genesis 22:12

Those who think they may find fault with God's unerring Word, are misguided at best.

The Anvil of God's Word

“Last eve I paused beside the blacksmith’s door,
And heard the anvil ring the vesper chime;
Then looking in, I saw upon the floor,
Old hammers, worn with beating years of time.

“‘How many anvils have you had,’ said I,
‘To wear and batter all these hammers so?’
‘Just one,’ said he, and then with twinkling eye,
‘The anvil wears the hammers out, you know.’

“And so, I thought, the Anvil of God’s Word
For ages skeptic blows have beat upon;
Yet, though the noise of falling blows was heard,
The Anvil is unharmed, the hammers gone.”

John Clifford

The Unerring Word Of God:

Psalm 1:1-3 KJV
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2 But his delight is in the law of The Lord; and in His law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

John 8:32 KJV
And ye shall know The Truth, and The Truth shall make you free.

John 15:3 KJV
Now ye are clean through The Word which I have spoken unto you.

John 17:17 KJV
Sanctify them through thy Truth: thy Word is Truth.

I Corinthians 2:13 KJV
Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which The Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

Colossians 3:16 KJV
Let The Word Of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to The Lord.

II Timothy 3:15-17 KJV
15 And that from a child thou hast known The Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

I Peter 1:23-25 KJV
23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by The Word Of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
25 But The Word Of The Lord endureth for ever. And this is The Word which by The Gospel is preached unto you.

II Peter 1:21 KJV
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by The Holy Ghost.

God tested (proved) Abraham's faith, He certainly did not entice him to sin!
And God will prove our faith as well. May we always be sure our faith is founded upon The Truth of The Word.

Psalm 26:1-3 KJV
1 Judge me, O Lord; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in The Lord; therefore I shall not slide.
2 Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; try my reins and my heart.
3 For thy loving kindness is before mine eyes: and I have walked in thy Truth.
