Bible Questions Answered- A Christian Country

Bible Question:

If we are still a Christian Country, (?) are we to rely on nuclear weapons for our protection?

Ralph T. Lansing, Mich.

Bible Answer:

Well, let's let the Word of God determine if we act like a Christian country.

I Peter 1:5Who are kept by the Power of God through Faith...”

Deuteronomy 33:12Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, He it is that doth go with thee; He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.”

Psalms 37:28For the Lord ...forsaketh not His saints...”

Psalm 91: The New Living Bible

1 Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him.
3 For He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.
4 He will cover you with His feathers. He will shelter you with His wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
5 Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day.
6 Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
7 Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you.
8 Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished.
9 If you make the LORD your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter,
10 no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home.
11 For He will order His angels, to protect you wherever you go.
12 They will hold you up with their hands so you won't even hurt your foot on a stone.
13 You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!
14 The LORD says, "I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name.
15 When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them.
16 I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation."

Psalm 27:1-3 The New Living Bible

A psalm of David.
1 The LORD is my light and my salvation—so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?
2 When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will stumble and fall.
3 Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident.

Deuteronomy 33:12 “...The beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety...”

Psalm 121 The New Living Bible
1 I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there?
2 My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth!
3 He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber.
4 Indeed, He who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps.
5 The LORD Himself watches over you! The LORD stands beside you as your protective shade.
6 The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night.
7 The LORD keeps you from all harm and watches over your life.
8 The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.

Proverbs 1:33 The New Living Bible

33 “But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm."

2 Chronicles 20:1- 30 The New Living Bible

War with Surrounding Nations
1 After this, the armies of the Moabites, Ammonites, and some of the Meunites* declared war on Jehoshaphat.

2 Messengers came and told Jehoshaphat, "A vast army from Edom* is marching against you from beyond the Dead Sea.* They are already at Hazazon-tamar." (This was another name for En-gedi.)
3 Jehoshaphat was terrified by this news and begged the LORD for guidance. He also ordered everyone in Judah to begin fasting.

4 So people from all the towns of Judah came to Jerusalem to seek the LORD's help.
5 Jehoshaphat stood before the community of Judah and Jerusalem in front of the new courtyard at the Temple of the LORD.

6 He prayed, "O LORD, God of our ancestors, you alone are the God who is in heaven. You are ruler of all the kingdoms of the earth. You are powerful and mighty; no one can stand against you!

7 O our God, did you not drive out those who lived in this land when your people Israel arrived? And did you not give this land forever to the descendants of your friend Abraham?

8 Your people settled here and built this Temple to honor your name.

9 They said, `Whenever we are faced with any calamity such as war,* plague, or famine, we can come to stand in your presence before this Temple where your name is honored. We can cry out to you to save us, and you will hear us and rescue us.'
10 "And now see what the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir are doing. You would not let our ancestors invade those nations when Israel left Egypt, so they went around them and did not destroy them.

11 Now see how they reward us! For they have come to throw us out of your land, which you gave us as an inheritance.

12 O our God, won't you stop them? We are powerless against this mighty army that is about to attack us. We do not know what to do, but we are looking to you for help."
13 As all the men of Judah stood before the LORD with their little ones, wives, and children,

14 the Spirit of the LORD came upon one of the men standing there. His name was Jahaziel son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, a Levite who was a descendant of Asaph.
15 He said, "Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the LORD says: Do not be afraid! Don't be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God's.

16 Tomorrow, march out against them. You will find them coming up through the ascent of Ziz at the end of the valley that opens into the wilderness of Jeruel.

17 But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the LORD's victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out against them tomorrow, for the LORD is with you!"
18 And aThen King Jehoshaphat bowed low with his face to the ground. And all the people of Judah and Jerusalem did the same, worshiping the LORD.

19 Then the Levites from the clans of Kohath and Korah stood to praise the LORD, the God of Israel, with a very loud shout.
20 Early the next morning the army of Judah went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. On the way Jehoshaphat stopped and said, "Listen to me, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Believe in the LORD your God, and you will be able to stand firm. Believe in his prophets, and you will succeed."
21 After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the LORD and praising Him for His holy splendor. This is what they sang: "Give thanks to the LORD; his faithful love endures forever!"
22 At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the LORD caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves.

23 The armies of Moab and Ammon turned against their allies from Mount Seir and killed every one of them. After they had destroyed the army of Seir, they began attacking each other.

24 So when the army of Judah arrived at the lookout point in the wilderness, all they saw were dead bodies lying on the ground as far as they could see. Not a single one of the enemy had escaped.
25 King Jehoshaphat and his men went out to gather the plunder. They found vast amounts of equipment, clothing,* and other valuables—more than they could carry. There was so much plunder that it took them three days just to collect it all!

26 On the fourth day they gathered in the Valley of Blessing,* which got its name that day because the people praised and thanked the LORD there. It is still called the Valley of Blessing today.
27 Then all the men returned to Jerusalem, with Jehoshaphat leading them, overjoyed that the LORD had given them victory over their enemies.

28 They marched into Jerusalem to the music of harps, lyres, and trumpets, and they proceeded to the Temple of the LORD.
29 When all the surrounding kingdoms heard that the LORD himself had fought against the enemies of Israel, the fear of God came over them.

30 So Jehoshaphat's kingdom was at peace, for his God had given him rest on every side.

Leviticus 26:1-13

If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them...I will give peace...ye shall lie down and none shall make you afraid.”

Nahum 1:7

The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knoweth them that trust in Him.”

Psalm 50:15 “And call upon Me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify Me.”

What a great God we serve!

Psalm 103:3,4

Who forgiveth all thine iniquities: who healeth all thy diseases; who Redeemeth thy life from Destruction...”

Bible Questions Answered- What Church Saves?

Bible Question:
Protestant vs. Catholic, etc....what church gets people to heaven?
Bill H. Tallahassee, Fl.

Bible Answer:

What Denomination or What church saves?

Answer: Protestant, Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox, etc. etc. etc.....no, none of these, because a church or any denomination, cannot save anyone.

Matthew 1:21 “Thou shalt call His name JESUS: for HE (not She, not they, not any church, etc.) shall save His people from their sins.”

No Church creeds, dogmas, baptisms, confirmations, communions, memberships, etc. etc..etc. Can save anyone.

Salvation is only in one name....the name of JESUS.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there Salvation in any other, for there is none other NAME under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

Acts 2:21Whosoever shall call on the Name of the Lord, shall be saved.”

Acts 16:31 “...Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved...”

John 1:12 “...as many as have received Him to them gave He power to become the sons of God...”

John 6:37 “...him that comes unto Me, I will in no wise cast out.”

Men and women are not saved through any denomination, or church, but by Grace through Faith.

Ephesians 2: 8,9Ye are saved by Grace (The very riches of God, given to us at Christ's expense) through Faith (faith in Christ's atoning sacrifice), and that is not of yourselves (man is incapable of his own salvation, no matter how ingenious he might be);
for it is
the GIFT of God.
Not of WORKS
(Including religious works), lest any man should boast.”

...lest any man should boast.” Do you think if people could provide for their own Salvation, through ...church memberships, dogmas, creeds, confirmations, baptisms, communions, etc..etc..etc...that they would boast?

They surely would!

But if man could devise his own salvation, through his own means....then certainly Christ's sacrifice would be in vain!

But man can not devise his own salvation and Christ's sacrifice was not in vain!

John 1:12 “...as many as have received Him to them gave He power to become the sons of God...”

Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

The Apostle Paul is not her referring to some kind of “intellectual high jinks ,” for we read in ...

James 2:19Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.”

Believing in your neighborhood garage, doesn't make you a mechanic, just as believing in God doesn't make you a son of God, for even devils believe in God, and they are hardly Saved.

We must first receive Jesus as a repentant sinner (confessing our sins), and surrendering our lives to Him. That word “Lord,” means Master.

I John 1:7-10 “...The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us.”

Through Confession, Repentance, and Reception, of Jesus Christ as our Saviour, and Lord, the Holy Spirit then produces in us the New Birth, we are Born Again.

John 3:3, 5,6 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.

Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God.

That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

And as Christians, we are told to live faithful lives.

James 1:22 “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”

Luke 11:28 “...blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.”

Salvation, is not through any denomination or church, but through Jesus Christ.

John 14:6/ 10:9 “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh to the Father, except by me. I am the door: by Me, if any man enter in, he shall be saved...”

Bible Questions Answered: Marriage

Bible Question:
Rev. what about gay marriage, a man married his dog the other day. What does God say about this stuff?

Pete R. Birmingham, Ala.

Bible Answer:

Holy Matrimony

The American Heritage Dictionary says the definition of marriage is the following: “The legal union of a man and a woman as husband and wife.”

Well what is the origin of marriage and what was its original definition?

Marriage was first defined in Moses writings in the book of Genesis, and there we read of its origin.

God created mankind...

Genesis 1:27 “...God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them.”

God created the first man, Adam.

Genesis 2:7 “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

Genesis 2:18 “And the Lord God said, it is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.”

Genesis 2:21-24 “And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22. And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23. And Adam said, this is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called woman, because she was taken out of man. 24. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”

This is God's definition of marriage, the union of man and woman, Adam and Eve.

Genesis 1:28 “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

Proverbs 18:22 “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favor of the Lord.”

Well, what was the purpose of this union?

  • Adam would now have a helpmate.

  • Eve was Adam's emotional and sexual complement.

  • Eve: mother of children, loving, tender and caring.

  • Adam: the intellectual and physically strong, hunter gatherer, provider for the family.

  • Genesis 1:27 “male and female created He them.”

  • Children: Genesis 1:28 “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.”

This was God's original blessed union of man and woman, the first marriage.

The Apostle Paul told the Corinthian believers....

II Corinthians 11:2 “For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused (spiritually-married) you to one Husband, that I may present you as a chaste Virgin to Christ.”

The relationship between man and Savior is likened to that of the marriage of a man and his wife, Bridegroom and his Bride.

Christ is the Bridegroom and the Church is His Bride.

Isaiah 61:10 “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, He hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a Bridegroom decketh Himself with ornaments, and as a Bride adorneth herself with her jewels.”

Isaiah 62:5 “...as the Bridegroom rejoiceth over the Bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee.”

Matthew 9:15 “(And other places such as Matthew 25) Jesus referred to Himself as the Bridegroom.

And Jesus said unto them, can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the Bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, when the Bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.”

Revelation 22:17 A picture of the Church-the-Bride of Christ speaking from heaven:

And the Spirit and the Bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”

Physically or Spiritually, Marriage speaks of one's Holy Commitment to the Lord.

When we as Christian people are “espoused,” (married) to the Lord, spiritually our union will produce the spiritual birth of others into the Kingdom of God.

The question today is, “Are you, One With The Lord?” Have you been Born-Again?

John 3:3 Jesus said...”Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be Born Again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

John 3:5 And again He said...”Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.”

What must we do?

Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

John 1:12 “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the Sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.”

This Heavenly Bridegroom, the Lord Jesus, has promised that He will one day secretly return to take away His Bride (A Heavenly Elopement).

Matthew 24:42-44 “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. 43. But know this, that if the good man of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. 44. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of Man cometh.”

Bible Questions Answered: Tattoos And Body Piercing

Bible Question:
Dear Rev. Reine
I have two teenage sons, each who want body rings or tattoos. Seems to me my parents and grandparents did not allow this type of things for us "Baby Boomers," and they must have had their Christian reasons. What does the Bible say regarding these type of present day trends?
June S. Peoria, Ill.

Bible Answer:
The Bible's answer to the question concerning tattoos and body piercing, has remained the same from the beginning, and yes our parents and grandparents, knew the Bible's teachings, and held to them.

Leviticus 19:28 L.B. "You shall not cut yourselves nor put tattoo marks upon yourselves; I am the Lord."

I just happen to be old enough to remember Godly women of the church would never think of even piercing their ears for ear rings...no and that is why the industry manufactured something called "clamp on ear rings," still used by many today.

And the Apostle Paul...
I Corinthians 6:15,19,20 L.B. "Don't you realize that your bodies are actually parts of Christ?...
Or don't you know that your body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit, Who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body."

And again the Apostle's writings...
I Corinthians 3:16-17 "Know ye not that ye are the Temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the Temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the Temple of God is holy, which Temple ye are."

It is clear by the Word of God, that our body is a sacred vessel unto the Lord, a vessel which should be filled with His holy presence.

I Thessalonians 5:23 L.B. "Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until that day when our Lord Jesus Christ comes again."

The body should not be pierced, cut, tattooed etc. etc. in any way. Why, because it doesn't belong to us, it belongs to the Lord!

The Lord Jesus Christ warns today's world that there is coming a godless world leader (called in the Apocalypse..The Beast) who....

Revelation 13:16-17 "...causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a Mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the Mark, or The Name Of The Beast, or The Number Of His Name."

This beast creature, is none other than the coming anti-Christ world leader that scriptures from Daniel to John's writing in the book of Revelation, warns about.

Revelation 14:9-11 "And the third angel followed them, saying-with a loud voice, if any man worship the beast and his image, and RECEIVE HIS MARK IN HIS FOREHEAD, OR IN HIS HAND, THE SAME SHALL DRINK OF THE WINE OF THE WRATH OF GOD, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth THE MARK OF HIS NAME."

Today's playful use of tattoos and body piercings are only a precursor to this soon coming event.

Romans 12: 1,2 L.B. "And so dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice-the kind He will accept. When you think of what He has done for you, is this too much to ask? Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect His will really is."

And finally...
James 4:17 "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin."

Postscript:
This comment on what the Bible says about Body Piercing and Tattooing, was submitted to a newspaper in central Minn., because they had run some articles on the subject, and then asked for comments from their readership. The Bible comments above were rejected by the newspaper...they would not print them.

That is the day in which we live!

Bible Questions Answered: What Is God's Grace?

Ralp W. Springfield, Mass.

Question: What is God's Grace:

Answer:

Grace is God's loving kind gift to mankind. This gift cannot be earned.

Ephesians 2:8,9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Again the Apostle Paul states...

Romans 11:6 “...if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace.”

We cannot earn our salvation, we may only receive it as a “free-gift” from God, through repentance for sins and acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Saviour and Lord.

Please remember, “not of works, lest any man should boast.” also applies to “Religious Works!”

Church membership, confirmation, baptism, communion, all acceptable and good, yet in themselves, cannot justify us before God.

We cannot, earn salvation. Christ came and gave His life a ransom for those who could not help themselves.

For those who accept Him, they become members of the Redeemed.

Bible Questions Answered: A Christian And His Money

Bible Questions Answered

Ann P. Dallas Texas:
Question:
Is it wrong for a Christian to go into debt?

Bible Answer:
The Apostle Paul told us..
Romans 12:17 "Provide things honest in the sight of all men."

Christian people are to be held to a higher standard, that of absolute honesty, in our personal and business life.

Again Paul tells us ...
Romans 13:8 "Owe no man anything, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law."

Is it possible to "owe no man anything," in our world?

Probably not. We need loans...for such things as cars and homes, and some times unexpected medical bills etc.,

But the concept is...to be faithful and prompt to pay our bills and not to be extravagant in our purchases.
Again, the idea the Apostle is expressing here is that we should "live within our means."

The Apostle Paul,
Philippians 4:5 "Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand."
