Bible Lesson: Prophecies Made By The Lord Jesus Christ: Jerusalem And It's Destruction.
Bible Lesson: Prophecies Made By The
Lord Jesus Christ: Jerusalem And It's Destruction.
Bible Text: The Prophecy:
Jerusalem's destruction
1.) Luke 19:41-44 KJV
41 And when He
was come near, He beheld the city, and wept over it,
42 Saying, If
thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things
which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.
43 For the days
shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about
thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,
44 And shall
lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they
shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest
not the time of thy visitation.
Jerusalem's
Affliction
2.) Luke
23:28-31 KJV
28 But Jesus
turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for Me, but
weep for yourselves, and for your children.
29 For, behold,
the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the
barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave
suck.
30 Then shall
they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills,
Cover us.
31 For if they
do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?
Jerusalem
Without Spiritual Leadership:
3.) Matthew
21:42-45 KJV (Mark 12:10,11/ Luke 20:17,18)
42 Jesus saith
unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The Stone which the
builders rejected, the same is become The Head Of The Corner: this is
The Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes?
43 Therefore
say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given
to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.
44 And
whosoever shall fall on this Stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever
it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
45 And when the
chief priests and Pharisees had heard His parables, they perceived
that He spake of them.
Sins Of The
Past, Will End In Judgment:
4.) Matthew
23:35,36 KJV (Luke 11:50,51)
35 That upon
you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the
blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias,
whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
36 Verily I say
unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
Matthew 23:37-39
KJV (Luke 13:34,35)
37 O Jerusalem,
Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are
sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children
together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and
ye would not!
38 Behold, your
house is left unto you desolate.
39 For I say
unto you, Ye shall not see Me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed
is he that cometh in the name of The Lord.
5.) The Temple
Destroyed:
Matthew 24:1,2
KJV (Mark 13:1,2/ Luke 21:5,6)
1 And Jesus
went out, and departed from the temple: and His disciples came to Him
for to shew Him the buildings of the temple.
2 And Jesus
said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you,
There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not
be thrown down.
Bible Text: The Fulfillment:
1.) In the
year 70 A.D. the Roman army led by Titus (a future emperor), and
with Tiberius Julius Alexander his second in command, besieged
Jerusalem, and the second temple was destroyed, along with the city.
As you overlook
the city you live in, what do you see?
Jesus...
Luke 19:41-44 NLT
41 “...as He
came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city ahead, He began to weep.
II Peter 3:9 KJV
The Lord is not
slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is
long suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish,
but that all should come to repentance.
They had not recognized The Messiah, the only means to their
forgiveness and salvation, instead they rejected Him.
Hebrew 3:7-19
NLT
7 That is why
The Holy Spirit says, “Today when you hear His voice,
8 don’t
harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled, when they
tested Me in the wilderness.
9 There your
ancestors tested and tried My patience, even though they saw My
miracles for forty years.
10 So I was
angry with them, and I said, ‘Their hearts always turn away from
Me. They refuse to do what I tell them.’
11 So in My
anger I took an oath:‘They will never enter My place of rest.’”
12 Be
careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own
hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from The Living
God.
13 You must
warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that
none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God.
14 For if we
are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first
believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ.
15 Remember
what it says: “Today when you hear His voice, don’t harden
your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled.”
16 And who was
it who rebelled against God, even though they heard His voice? Wasn’t
it the people Moses led out of Egypt?
17 And who made
God angry for forty years? Wasn’t it the people who sinned, whose
corpses lay in the wilderness?
18 And to whom
was God speaking when He took an oath that they would never enter His
rest? Wasn’t it the people who disobeyed Him?
19 So we see
that because of their unbelief they were not able to enter His rest.
At our Lord's second coming, the day of The Lord, shall be a day of
judgment.
II Peter 3:10-12
KJV
10 But the day
of The Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the
heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall
melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein
shall be burned up.
11 Seeing
then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons
ought ye to be in all holy conversation and Godliness,
12 Looking for
and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens
being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with
fervent heat?
Isaiah 2:19 KJV
And they shall
go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for
fear of The Lord, and for the glory of His majesty, when He ariseth
to shake terribly the earth.
Matthew 25:31-46
KJV
31 “But when
The Son Of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then
He will sit upon His glorious throne.
32 All the
nations will be gathered in His presence, and He will separate the
people as a Shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33 He will
place the sheep at His right hand and the goats at His left.
34 “Then The
King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by
My Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of
the world.
35 For I was
hungry, and you fed Me. I was thirsty, and you gave Me a drink. I was
a stranger, and you invited Me into your home.
36 I was naked,
and you gave Me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for Me. I was in
prison, and you visited Me.’
37 “Then
these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you
hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38 Or a
stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing?
39 When did we
ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’
40 “And The
King will say, ‘I tell you The Truth, when you did it to one of the
least of these My brothers and sisters, you were doing it to Me!’
41 “Then The
King will turn to those on the left and say, ‘Away with you, you
cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his
demons.
42 For I was
hungry, and you didn’t feed Me. I was thirsty, and you didn’t
give Me a drink.
43 I was a
stranger, and you didn’t invite Me into your home. I was naked, and
you didn’t give Me clothing. I was sick and in prison, and you
didn’t visit Me.’
44 “Then they
will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a
stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?’
45 “And He
will answer, ‘I tell you The Truth, when you refused to help the
least of these My brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help
Me.’
46 “And they
will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into
eternal life.”
