Bible Text:
Luke 9:10-17 NLT (The Feeding Of The
Five Thousand-Plus)
10 When the apostles returned, they
told Jesus everything they had done. Then He slipped quietly away
with them toward the town of Bethsaida.
11 But the crowds found out where He
was going, and they followed Him. He welcomed them and taught them
about the Kingdom of God, and He healed those who were sick.
12 Late in the afternoon the twelve
disciples came to Him and said, “Send the crowds away to the nearby
villages and farms, so they can find food and lodging for the night.
There is nothing to eat here in this remote place.”
13 But Jesus said, “You feed
them.” “But we have only five loaves of bread and two fish,”
they answered. “Or are you expecting us to go and buy enough food
for this whole crowd?”
14 For there were about 5,000 men
there. Jesus replied, “Tell them to sit down in groups of about
fifty each.”
15 So the people all sat down.
16 Jesus took the five loaves
and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them.
Then, breaking the loaves into
pieces, He kept giving the bread and fish to the disciples so they
could distribute it to the people.
17 They all ate as much as they
wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of
leftovers!
Matthew 26:26-29
NLT (The Last Supper.)
26 As they were
eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then he
broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take this
and eat it, for this is my body.”
27 And he
took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it
to them and said, “Each of you drink from it,
28 for this is
my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It
is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many.
29 Mark my
words—I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new with
you in my Father’s Kingdom.”
Luke 24:28-32 NLT (The two on the Emmaus Road, who meet the
risen Savior.)
28 By this time
they were nearing Emmaus and the end of their journey. Jesus acted as
if He were going on,
29 but they
begged Him, “Stay the night with us, since it is getting late.”
So He went home with them. 30 As they sat down to eat, He took
the bread and blessed it. Then He broke it and gave it to
them.
31 Suddenly,
their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him. And at that moment
He disappeared!
32 They said to
each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us as He talked with
us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?”
The habit of Jesus was to, thank The Father in heaven for His gifts!
Psalm 68:19 KJV
Blessed be The
Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God Of Our
Salvation. Selah.
And The Father in heaven, blessed and multiplied it.
“Pastor, we always give thanks, before we eat!”
Good, because many so-called Christian people do not!
When out in public at the restaurant, or the fast food center, do
you bow your head in prayer to The Father, in your own personal
thanksgiving for His bountiful gifts?”
(Christian people, rebuke the deceiver, and come out of the closet!)
How about it Christian?
Some are glad to stand up for all to see, and shout, “yes we do!”
OK, but do you give thanks after you have eaten??
Deuteronomy 8:10
KJV
When thou
hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless The Lord thy
God for the good land which He hath given thee.
Homily:
One of the dearest memories I have, was some 40 years ago, walking
into a restaurant, looking for a table, and all of a sudden, there
was a Choral-symphony of praise.
Eight nuns had just finished their meal, bowed their heads, held
hands and sang their benediction of thanksgiving to their Heavenly
Father.
How wonderful, it was, a sight and sound, everyone in that restaurant, would "never," forget!
There is so much we may learn from one another, if we through a heart
of love, but look and listen!
Have a desire to live like Jesus? Then get into the habit of giving thanks for everything.
I Timothy 4:4,5
KJV
4 For every
creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received
with thanksgiving:
5 For it is
sanctified by The Word Of God and prayer.
I Thessalonians
5:18 KJV
In every thing
give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning
you.
