Cast Thy Bread Upon The Waters

Bible Questions Answered:
“Cast thy bread on water, what is this saying....”
Arnold/ Sacramento, California U.S.A.

Bible Answer:

Bible Text:
Ecclesiastes 11:1,2,6 KJV
1 Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.
2 Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.
6 In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.

The literal interpretation of these words may well be the act of planting corn, or rice. In Egypt the Nile river oft over floods its banks, but this must not stop the one who works the land from planting! No, from his boat, he casts, by faith, his seed into the marshy waters, knowing that the time will come, when the waters will reseed, and his seed will grow, yielding its crop.

Solomon, had in mind when writing these words, acts of charity.
When we help others, the day may come, when we will need their help!

Galatians 6:7 KJV
"...for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Giving:

Psalm 41:1 KJV
Blessed is he that considereth the poor: The Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.

Psalm 126:5,6 KJV
5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.
6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

Proverbs 11:25 KJV
The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

Proverbs 25:21 KJV
If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink..."

Isaiah 32:20 KJV
Blessed are ye that sow beside all waters..."

Isaiah 58:6-10 KJV
6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of The Lord shall be thy reward.
9 Then shalt thou call, and The Lord shall answer; thou shalt cry, and He shall say, Here I am..."
10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day:

Matthew 5:42 KJV
Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

Matthew 10:8 KJV
Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

Luke 6:35-38 KJV
35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of The Highest: for He is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Luke 12:33 KJV
Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.

Acts 20:35 KJV
I have shewed you all things, how that so laboring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of The Lord Jesus, how He said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

II Corinthians 9:6-9 KJV
6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
9 (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; He hath given to the poor: His righteousness remaineth for ever.

Galatians 6:9,10 KJV
9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

I Timothy 6:18,19 KJV
18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

The Unjust Steward:
Luke 16:1-12 NLT
1 Jesus told this story to His disciples: “There was a certain rich man who had a manager handling his affairs. One day a report came that the manager was wasting his employer’s money.
2 So the employer called him in and said, ‘What’s this I hear about you? Get your report in order, because you are going to be fired.’
3 “The manager thought to himself, ‘Now what? My boss has fired me. I don’t have the strength to dig ditches, and I’m too proud to beg.
4 Ah, I know how to ensure that I’ll have plenty of friends who will give me a home when I am fired.’
5 “So he invited each person who owed money to his employer to come and discuss the situation. He asked the first one, ‘How much do you owe him?’
6 The man replied, ‘I owe him 800 gallons of olive oil.’ So the manager told him, ‘Take the bill and quickly change it to 400 gallons.’
7 “‘And how much do you owe my employer?’ he asked the next man. ‘I owe him 1,000 bushels of wheat,’ was the reply. ‘Here,’ the manager said, ‘take the bill and change it to 800 bushels.’
8 “The rich man had to admire the dishonest rascal for being so shrewd.

And it is true that the children of this world are more shrewd in dealing with the world around them than are the children of the light.
9 Here’s the lesson: Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your earthly possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home.
10 “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.
11 And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven?
12 And if you are not faithful with other people’s things, why should you be trusted with things of your own?
