Adversity

Bible Questions Answered:
“I don't get it why we have to go through adversity. Christ said,  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, so why do we get them?”
Chou/ Chiba, Japan

Bible Answer:

Matthew 6:13 NLT
And don’t let us yield to temptation*, but rescue us from the evil one.

*Temptation – Greek: Peirasmos (Pi-ras-mos): A putting to proof, (by experiment (of good), experience (of evil), solicitation, discipline or provocation; by adversity: temptation, by implication, adversity: try.
Abingdon/Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible.

The evil fleshly temptations of the devil, are not, the testings of God!
The devil tries his best to lure men a way into sin.

Ephesians 6:11 KJV (God's spiritual armor: verses 10-18.)
Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles* of the devil.

* Wiles – Greek: Methodeia (Meth-od-i-ah): Traveling over, i.e. travesty (trickery): wile, lie in wait.

I Peter 1:3-7 NLT
3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by His great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation,
4 and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.
5 And through your faith, God is protecting you by His power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see.
6 So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while.
7 These trials* will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

*Trials – Greek: Dokimion (Dok-im-ee-on): A testing; by implication trust-worthiness-trial, trying.

When God tests someone, it is for a reason, to benefit the one being tested!
I Peter 1:7 NLT
These trials* will show that your faith is genuine...”

God's tests, and so strengthens our character.

James 1:2-4 NLT
2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.
3 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.
4 So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.

Being faithful through trials strengthens us spiritually.

I Corinthians 10:13 NLT
The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted*, He will show you a way out so that you can endure.

*Tempted – Greek: Peirazo (Pi-rad-zo): endeavor, scrutinize, entice, discipline: assay, examine, go about, prove, tempt, try.

In our own weakness, our Lord's strength is best realized!

II Corinthians 12:8-10 NLT (Apostle Paul's thorn in the flesh.)
8 Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away.
9 Each time He said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.
10 That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Testings often show us the dross in our lives.

Job 23:10 KJV
But He knoweth the way that I take: when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

Psalm 66:10 KJV
For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.

Isaiah 48:10 KJV
Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.

Malachi 3:3 KJV
And He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and He shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.

Testings in a Christian's life, proves that they “are,” a child of God!

Job 5:17 KJV
Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:

Hebrews 12:5-8 KJV
5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of Him:
6 For whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth.
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

I Peter 4:12,13 KJV
12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when His glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

Matthew 6:13 KJV
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
