Bible Questions Answered: Trials And Temptations

Bible Questions Answered:
According to I Peter 1:6,7, does God send us temptation to sin?
Donald K. / Johannesburg, S.A.

Bible Answer:
God never tempts any one to do evil, that is the work of the enemy!

I Peter 1:6,7 KJV
[6] Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: (peirasmos: a trial a proving)
[7] That the trial (dokimion; a proving; that by which something is tried or proved, a test ) of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:”

God permits these “trials-of-life,” because they are designed to strengthen us spiritually, not harm us, or cause us to sin.

When you take out a membership at a gym, you do it to build up your muscles. You certainly don't lift weights to destroy your muscles. In the same way, our wise (Isaiah 55:8,9) Heavenly Father, chooses the things in life that can help us to grow spiritually.

I Peter 1:6,7 NLT
6 So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while.
7 These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

James 1:13,14 KJV
[13] Let no man say when he is tempted ( peirazō), I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted ( peirazō ) with evil, neither tempteth ( peirazō )any man:
[14] But every man is tempted (
apeirastos) , when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

peirazō
to attempt, endeavour

to test one maliciously, craftily to put to the proof his feelings or judgments
to try or test one's faith, virtue, character, by enticement to sin
to solicit to sin, to tempt
the temptations of the devil

apeirastos:
that can not be tempted by evil, not liable to temptation to sin

James 1:13,14 NLT
13 And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, "God is tempting me." God is never tempted to do wrong, and He never tempts anyone else.
14 Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away.

It is Satan who tempts to sin.

II Corinthians 2:11 KJV
Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices (noēma: a mental perception, thought, an evil purpose.

Ephesians 6:11 KJV
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles (methodeia: cunning arts, deceit, craft, trickery)of the devil.”

Hebrews 12:1 KJV
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,”

Our enemy; knows only too well, just what sin, tempts us the most, and he uses it to tempt us time and time again.

But, our God has not left us at the hands of the enemy!

Sin has no power over us as Christians.

I Corinthians 10:12,13 NLT
12 If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall.
13 The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you can endure.

Isaiah 40:31 KJVBut they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Romans 6:6,7 KJV
[6] Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him (Christ), that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
[7] For he that is dead is freed from sin.

Romans 6:21-23 KJV
[21] What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
[22] But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
[23] For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

II Corinthians 10:4,5 KJV
[4] (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
[5] Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

I John 4:4 KJV “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than He that is in the world."
