Bible Lesson: Miracles Of The Old Testament: Fire From Heaven Consumes Aaron's Sons.
Bible Lesson: Miracles Of The Old
Testament: Fire From Heaven Consumes Aaron's Sons.
Occasion: Strange Fire Offered.
Location: Sinai.
Bible Text:
Leviticus 10:1-3 NLT
1 Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu put
coals of fire in their incense burners and sprinkled incense over
them. In this way, they disobeyed the Lord by burning before Him the
wrong kind of fire, different than He had commanded.
2 So fire blazed forth from the
Lord’s presence and burned them up, and they died there before the
Lord.
3 Then Moses said to Aaron, “This
is what the Lord meant when He said,
‘I will display My holiness
through those who come near Me. I will display My glory before all
the people.’”And Aaron was silent.
What exactly was the sin of Nadab and
Abihu, Aarons oldest sons?
They had used “strange fire” (Fire
from a common source.) fire not taken from the Altar of Burnt
Offerings (Brazen Altar), for their incense burning, as they were
trained to do.
Fire from the Brazen Altar, spoke of
the bloody sacrifice there, it was to be thee only fire that
would propel incense heaven word!
Fire from the Brazen Altar, spoke of
the bloody sacrifice of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
Hebrews 12:29 KJV
For our God is a consuming fire.
By His power, our prayers ascend up to
the throne of God!
For using forbidden “strange fire,”
God immediately judged Nadab and
Abihu by death.
Why was this so important?
It was because .. .
Hebrews 8:5 NLT (Earthly
Priests and their offerings...)
They serve in a system of worship
that is only a copy, a shadow of the real one in heaven. For when
Moses was getting ready to build the Tabernacle, God gave him this
warning: “Be sure that you make everything according to the
pattern I have shown you here on the mountain.”
Leviticus 10:8,10 NLT
8 Then the Lord said to Aaron,
10 You must distinguish between what
is sacred and what is common..."
Incense burning was done at the golden
altar, which represented the prayers of God's people, before the
veil, and the holy of holies with its ark of the covenant,
representing the presence of God.
Everything regarding prayer is
important and sacred!
Psalm 141:2 KJV
Let my prayer be set forth before
thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening
sacrifice.
Revelation 8:1-4 KJV
1 And when He had opened the seventh
seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.
2 And I saw the seven angels which
stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.
3 And another angel came and stood
at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him
much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints
upon the golden altar which was before the throne.
4 And the smoke of the incense,
which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out
of the angel's hand.
Moses warned Israel:
Deuteronomy 4:2 KJV
Ye shall not add unto the word which
I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may
keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.
Proverbs 30:6 KJV
Add thou not unto His words, lest He
reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
Revelation 22:18,19 KJV
18 For I testify unto every man that
heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add
unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are
written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away
from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his
part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the
things which are written in this book.
A lot of people today, would like to do
things their own way and “design-their-own-religion.”
Sorry, that just won't work.
That kind of theology, Nadab and Abihu,
would tell you ends in judgment and death.
We may not add to, nor take away from
“thus saith the Lord.”
Hebrews 10:31 KJV
It is a fearful thing to fall into
the hands of the living God.
