Bible Question:
If new testament believers are called the bride of Christ, what are the old testament believers called?
Hellen P./ Northome, Mn
Bible Answers:
New Testament saints are called “The Bride of Christ.”
Ephesians 5:25-33 KJV
[25] Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it;
[26] That He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
[27] That He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
[28] So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
[29] For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
[30] For we are members of His body, of His flesh, and of His bones.
[31] For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
[32] This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
[33] Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
II Corinthians 11:2 KJV
For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
Now concerning Old Testament believers:
John the Baptist, a member of Old Testament saints (pre-Calvary), called himself...
John 3:29 KJV
He that hath the Bride is the Bridegroom: but the Friend of the Bridegroom, which standeth and heareth Him, rejoiceth greatly because of the Bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
Old Testament Saints: A Friend of the Bridegroom.
Psalms 45:11-15 KJV
[11] So shall the king (King of King and Lord of Lord's – Jesus Christ) greatly desire thy beauty (The Bride of Christ-The Blood, Bought Church of Jesus Christ): for He is thy Lord; and worship thou Him.
[12] And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall intreat thy favour.
[13] The king's daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.
[14] She shall be brought unto the King in raiment of needlework: the virgins her companions that follow her shall be brought unto thee.
[15] With gladness and rejoicing shall they be brought: they shall enter into the King's palace.
A spiritual interpretation of this Psalm, would make Old Testament Saints....Virgin Companions of the Bride.
Either one would be a true description of Old Testament believers.
