Bible Lessons: Baptism Formula

Bible Lesson: The Baptism Formula

Matthew 28:18-20 KJV
[18] And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth.
[
19] Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing (Baptizo: To make fully wet.) them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
[
20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

The New Testament, Greek words for Baptism, .... all speak of immersion.

Baptizo: To make fully wet. (Baptize)

Baptismos: Washing.

Bapto: To cover wholly with a fluid.

The Early Church, knew nothing but total immersion in baptism.
Infant baptism, (sprinkling) did not emerge until the twelfth century, and all by a church that prides itself on never changing.

Matthew 3:13 KJV (Jesus our example) “And Jesus, when He was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: ...”

Now, there is no such thing, as “Salvation through Baptism!”

Ephesians 2:8,9 KJV
[8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
[9] Not of works (Religious or otherwise), lest any man should boast.

Titus 3:5 NLT “...He (the Lord Jesus Christ) saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 64:6 KJV “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

Salvation: Is not by Confirmation, Dedication, Baptism, Church Membership, Not by birth, or nobility, Not by some Ecclesiastical Decree (other than through the Gospel.), Not by communion, Not by any works of man, religious or otherwise.

John 1:12,13 KJV
[12] But as many as received Him (The Saviour-Jesus Christ), to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name:
[13] Which were born, not of blood (Nobility), nor of the will of the flesh (Religious works, however grand) , nor of the will of man (Ecclesiastical Decree), but of God.

Baptism, is important, because it is a form of confession.

Matthew 10:32 KJV Whosoever therefore shall confess Me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.”

Luke 12:8,9 KJV “
[8] Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess Me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:
[
9] But he that denieth Me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.”

Colossians 2:12 NLT “For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with Him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.”
