Bible Questions Answered: A Death Threat Against Moses

Bible Question: Did God really try to kill Moses?
Debra S. / Beattyville, Quebec

Bible Answer:
The scripture reference to which you reffere is ...

Exodus 4:24,25 NLT
24 On the way to Egypt, at a place where Moses and his family had stopped for the night, the LORD confronted him and was about to kill him.
25 But Moses' wife, Zipporah, took a flint knife and circumcised her son. She touched his feet with the foreskin and said, "Now you are a bridegroom of blood to me.
26 When she said "a bridegroom of blood," she was referring to the circumcision. After that, the LORD left him alone.

Moses the leader of Israel , had neglected to circumcise his own son (Eliezer).

Circumcision was a sign of the covenant, a sacrament (and important act) between God and Israel, just as Baptism is a covenant, a sacrament between God and His people today..

Moses wife, Zipporah, circumcized their son, and threw the foreskin at Moses feet. "Now you are a bridegroom of blood to me.” she responded.

Well, several points could be made here....

First of all...

Every leader, or all who wish to be a leader of the people, would surely benefit by a Godly wife!

Proverbs 12:4 KJV A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.”

Proverbs 19:14 “House and riches are the inheritance of fathers and a prudent wife is from the LORD.”

Proverbs 31:10-31 (Please look this scripture up and read it all, we quote only verse 10 here)
Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.”

A Second point to made is...

Leaders BEWARE!
Spiritual Leaders Beware!

I Corinthians 9: 13,14 KJV
[13] Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the alter are partakers with the alter?
[14] Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.

James 3:1 NIV “Not many of you should presume to be teachers (masters), my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.”

Hebrews 13:17 KJV 'Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.”

These scriptures point out, that anyone who is a spiritual leader, better be well sure he is called of God to do so in the first place, and that secondly, he is preaching the whole council of God!

Because he will one day stand and give account to God, of how he has lived, and what he has taught!

Oh that this WARNING, could be broadcast day and night so that no one dare get it wrong!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Teacher, Preacher, Evangelist, Religious Leader...be sure you are preaching the truth of the Gospel!

And be sure you are living of that gospel, yourself!

I Timothy 3:1-13 KJV
[1] This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
[2] A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
[3] Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
[4] One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
[5] (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
[6] Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
[7] Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
[8] Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
[9] Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
[10] And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
[11] Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.
[12] Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
[13] For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Titus 1:6-9 KJV
[6] If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children nacot cused of riot or unruly.
[7] For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre (money);
[8] But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
[9] Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

Oh God, give us men, who will live and die by the truth, you are the Way, the Truth, and the Life

Amen.
