Preaching To The Dead

Bible Questions Answered:
“Where does it say Jesus preached  to those lost in hell?...”
Daffney/ Alden, New York  U.S.A.

Bible Answer:

Bible Texts:

There are two texts that are often wrongly interpreted, they are I Peter 3:18,19, and I Peter 4:6.

I Peter 3:18-20 AMP
18 For indeed Christ died for sins once for all, the Just and Righteous for the unjust and unrighteous the (Innocent for the guilty) so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in The Spirit;
19 in which He also went (
In The Spirit, through Noah) and preached to the spirits now in prison,
20 who once were disobedient, when the great patience of God was waiting in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons [Noah’s family], were brought safely through the water.

The subject here is Noah and his day.

Description of Noah's day.

Genesis 6:3 KJV
And The Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.
It was a  time of constant striving with The Spirit Of God.

Genesis 6:5 KJV
And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Peter states that Old Testaments Prophets, had The Spirit Of Christ within them.

I Peter 1:10,11 NLT
10 This salvation was something even the prophets wanted to know more about when they prophesied about this gracious salvation prepared for you.
11 They wondered what time or situation The Spirit Of Christ within them was talking about when He told them in advance about Christ’s suffering and His great glory afterward.

The Holy Spirit, spoke through Old Testament prophets.
Noah, was called a "preacher of righteousness," and The Lord's Spirit, spoke through him.

II Peter 2:4,5 KJV
4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

Noah, God's  righteous man on the earth, preached 120 years to the lost, and not one, would repent of their sins and turn to The Lord. The Lord through His Spirit, warned and warned those imprisoned in sins of the flesh, but they would not listen, the flood came, and they were, forever lost.

Hebrews 9:27 KJV
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
And then there is I Peter 4:6.

I Peter 4:4-6 KJV
4 Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
5 Who shall give account to Him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.
6 For for this cause was The Gospel preached also to them that are
(now) dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in The spirit.
I Peter 4:4-6 ERV
4 Now those “friends” think it is strange that you no longer join them in all the wild and wasteful things they do. And so they say bad things about you.
5 But they will have to face God to explain what they have done. He is the one who will soon judge everyone—those who are still living and those who have died.
6 Some were told The Good News before they died. They were criticized by others in their life here on earth. But it was God’s plan that they hear The Good News so that they could have a new life through The Spirit.

The key to this scripture is that The Gospel, was preached to many when they were alive, they made their decisions, and “now,” they are dead, and reaping the results of  their decisions.

Here is a story that Jesus told of a man who ended up in hell, and begged for God's mercy, and NO MERCY was afford him.

Hebrews 9:27 KJV
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
Luke 16:19-26 KJV (As told by The Lord Jesus.)
19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

Prayer:

Proverbs 27:1 KJV
Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
II Corinthians 6:2 NLT
For God says, “At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.” Indeed,
the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation.

Hebrews 4:7 KJV
"...To day if ye will hear His voice, harden not your hearts.
Romans 10:9, 10 KJV
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth The Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto Salvation.
