Bible Lesson: Prophecies And Their
Fulfillment:
Bible Prophecy: Messiah, Mocked And
Insulted
Bible Text:
Psalm 22:6-8 KJV
6 But I am a
worm, and no Man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.
7 All they that
see Me laugh Me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the
head, saying,
8 He trusted on
The Lord that He would deliver Him: let Him deliver Him, seeing He
delighted in Him.
Psalm 109:25 NLT
I am a joke to
people everywhere; when they see Me, they shake their heads in scorn.
Isaiah 37:22 KJV
This is the
word which The Lord hath spoken concerning Him; The virgin, the
daughter of Zion, hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn; the
daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.
Prophecy
Fulfillment:
Matthew 27:27-31,39-44 KJV
27 Then the
soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and
gathered unto Him the whole band of soldiers.
28 And they
stripped Him, and put on Him a scarlet robe.
29 And when
they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon His head, and a
reed in His right hand: and they bowed the knee before Him, and
mocked Him, saying, Hail,
King Of The
Jews!
30 And they
spit upon Him, and took the reed, and smote Him on the head.
31 And after
that they had mocked Him, they took the robe off from Him, and put
His own raiment on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him.
39 And they
that passed by reviled (shouted abuse NLT) Him, wagging their heads,
40 And saying,
Thou that destroyest the temple, and build it in three days, save
thyself. If thou be The Son Of God, come down from the cross.
41 Likewise
also the chief priests mocking Him, with the scribes and elders,
said,
42 He saved
others; Himself He cannot save. If He be The King Of Israel, let Him
now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him.
43 He trusted
in God; let Him deliver Him now, if He will have Him: for He said,
I am The Son Of
God.
44 The thieves
also, which were crucified with Him, cast the same in His teeth.
Mark 15:29-32
KJV
29 And they
that passed by railed on Him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah,
thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,
30 Save
thyself, and come down from the cross.
31 Likewise
also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the
scribes, He saved others; Himself He cannot save.
32 Let Christ
The King Of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and
believe. And they that were crucified with Him reviled Him.
Luke 22:63-65
KJV
63 And the men
that held Jesus mocked Him, and smote Him.
64 And when
they had blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face, and asked Him,
saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?
65 And many
other things blasphemously spake they against Him.
Luke 23:10, 11,
35-39 KJV
10 And the
chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused Him.
11 And Herod
with his men of war set Him at nought, and mocked Him, and arrayed
Him in a gorgeous robe, and sent Him again to Pilate.
35 And the
people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided Him,
saying, He saved others; let Him save Himself, if He be Christ, The
Chosen Of God.
36 And the
soldiers also mocked Him, coming to Him, and offering Him vinegar,
37 And saying,
If thou be The King Of The Jews, save thyself.
38 And a
superscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek, and
Latin, and Hebrew, This Is The King Of The Jews.
39 And one of
the malefactors which were hanged railed on Him, saying, If thou be
Christ, save thyself and us.
Jesus predicted
that He would be mocked.
Matthew 20:18,19 KJV
18 Behold, we
go up to Jerusalem; and The Son Of Man shall be betrayed unto the
chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn Him to
death,
19 And shall
deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify
Him: and the third day He shall rise again.
Mark 10:33,34 KJV
33 Saying,
Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son Of Man shall be delivered
unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn
Him to death, and shall deliver Him to the Gentiles:
34 And they
shall mock Him, and shall scourge Him, and shall spit upon Him, and
shall kill Him: and the third day He shall rise again.
Luke 18:31-33 KJV
31 Then He took
unto Him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to
Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning
The Son Of Man shall be accomplished.
32 For He shall
be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully
entreated, and spitted on:
33 And they
shall scourge Him, and put Him to death: and the third day He shall
rise again.
Since the very
beginning, a lamb's blood, has been offered up in sacrifice, to cover
the sins of the people.
Then God sent His
Only Begotten Son into the world to become The Savior, God's Spotless
Lamb, to be offered up for the sins of all the world.
John 1:29 KJV
(John The Baptist)
The next day
John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold The Lamb Of God,
which taketh away the sin of the world.
I Corinthians 5:7 KJV
"...Christ,
our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us.
II Corinthians 5:21 KJV
For He (The
Father) hath made Him (Jesus
Christ) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be
made the righteousness of God in Him.
I Peter 1:18-20
NLT
18 For you know
that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you
inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or
silver, which lose their value.
19 It was The
Precious Blood Of Christ, The Sinless, Spotless Lamb Of God.
20 God chose
Him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last
days He has been revealed for your sake.
Isaiah 53:1-12 NLT
1 Who has
believed our message? To whom has The Lord revealed His powerful arm?
2 My Servant
grew up in The Lord’s presence like A Tender Green Shoot, like A
Root in dry ground. There was nothing beautiful or majestic about His
appearance, nothing to attract us to Him.
3 He was
despised and rejected— A Man Of Sorrows, acquainted with deepest
grief. We turned our backs on Him and looked the other way. He was
despised, and we did not care.
4 Yet it was
our weaknesses He carried; it was our sorrows that weighed Him down.
And we thought His troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment
for His own sins!
5 But He was
pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we
could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.
6 All of us,
like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow
our own.
Yet The Lord
laid on Him the sins of us all.
7 He was
oppressed and treated harshly, yet He never said a word. He was led
like A Lamb to the slaughter. And as A Sheep is silent before the
shearers, He did not open His mouth.
8 Unjustly
condemned, He was led away. No one cared that He died without
descendants, that His life was cut short in midstream. But He was
struck down for the rebellion of my people.
9 He had done
no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But He was buried like a
criminal He was put in a rich man’s grave.
10 But it was
The Lord’s good plan to crush Him and cause Him grief. Yet when His
life is made an offering for sin, He will have many descendants. He
will enjoy a long life, and The Lord’s good plan will prosper in
His hands.
11 When He sees
all that is accomplished by His anguish, He will be satisfied. And
because of His experience, My Righteous Servant will make it possible
for many to be counted righteous, for He will bear all their sins.
12 I will give
Him the honors of A Victorious Soldier, because He exposed Himself to
death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and
interceded for rebels.
Prayer:
Jesus, be merciful to me a sinner. I
confess and forsake my sins, and ask you to forgive me, and make me a
child of God, for you have said, “...whosoever shall call on the
name of The Lord shall be saved.” Acts 2:21 KJV
Thank you for dying for me, taking my
place in judgment, that I might be pardoned. I take you as the
Savior, and Lord (Master) of my life. Help me to read your word,
confess you, and live for you.
Amen
