Bible Lesson: Prophecies And Their
Fulfillment:
Bible Prophecy: The Office That
Judas Held, To Be Taken By Another.
Bible Text:
The Prophecy:
Psalm
109:7,8 NLT
7 When his case
comes up for judgment, let him be pronounced guilty. Count his
prayers as sins.
8 Let his years
be few; let someone else take his position.
The Prophecy
Fulfillment:
Acts
1:15-20 NLT
15 During this
time, when about 120 believers were together in one place, Peter
stood up and addressed them.
16 “Brothers,”
he said, “the Scriptures had to be fulfilled concerning Judas, who
guided those who arrested Jesus. This was predicted long ago by The
Holy Spirit, speaking through King David.
17 Judas was
one of us and shared in the ministry with us.”
18 (Judas had
bought a field with the money he received for his treachery. Falling
headfirst there, his body split open, spilling out all his
intestines.
19 The news of
his death spread to all the people of Jerusalem, and they gave the
place the Aramaic name Akeldama, which means “Field of Blood.”)
20 Peter
continued, “This was written in the book of Psalms, where it says,
‘Let his home become desolate, with no one living in it.’ It also
says, ‘Let someone else take his position.’
Of Judas The Word tells us...
Matthew 26:24
KJV
The Son Of Man
goeth as it is written of Him: but woe unto that man by whom The Son
Of Man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been
born.
Acts 1:25 KJV (Matthias chosen as an Apostle.)
That he may
take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by
transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.
Tragedy, tragedy, in his remorse (Not to be confused with
repentance!), we read....
Matthew 27:5 KJV
And he cast
down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and
hanged himself.
Acts 1:18,19 KJV
18 Now this man
purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong,
he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.
19 And it was
known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is
called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of
blood.
This may at first, seem a contradiction, and yet it is said that
Judas more than likely hung himself over a cliff, and that having
hung himself, (due to his weight, have stolen funds from the
treasury, with which he no doubt, fed himself.) the rope broke,
sending his body down a cliff and into a ravine, and “his bowels gushed out.”
The Election of Matthias (Qualifications for Apostleship.)
Acts 1:13,20-26
NLT
13 When they
arrived, they went to the upstairs room of the house where they were
staying.
Here are the
names of those who were present: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip,
Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James (son of Alphaeus), Simon (the
zealot), and Judas (son of James).
20 Peter
continued, “This was written in the book of Psalms, where it says,
‘Let his home become desolate, with no one living in it.’ It also
says, ‘Let someone else take his position.’
21 “So now we
must choose a replacement for Judas from among the men who were
with us the entire time we were traveling with the Lord Jesus—
22 from the
time he was baptized by John until the day he was taken from us.
Whoever is chosen will join us as a witness of Jesus’
resurrection.”
23 So they
nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and
Matthias.
24 Then they
all prayed, “O Lord, you know every heart. Show us which of these
men you have chosen
25 as an
apostle to replace Judas in this ministry, for he has
deserted us and gone where he belongs.”
26 Then they
cast lots, and Matthias was selected to become an apostle with the
other eleven.
God's Message To Us Today!
Numbers 32:23 KJV (Moses warned Gad and Reuben)
But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against The Lord:
and be sure your sin will find you out.
Deuteronomy 4:9 NLT (Moses last warnings to the people of
God.)
But watch
out! Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. Do
not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live! And
be sure to pass them on to your children and grandchildren.
Psalm 69:5 NLT
O God, you know how foolish I am; my sins cannot be hidden from
you.
Ezekiel 18:30 NLT
“Therefore, I will judge each of you, O people of Israel (God's
people), according to your actions, says The Sovereign
Lord. Repent, and turn from your sins. Don’t let them
destroy you!
Prayer:
Nehemiah 9:17 KJV
"...but thou art a God ready to pardon, gracious and
merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness..."
Isaiah 45:22 KJV
Look unto Me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am
God, and there is none else.
Romans 10:9,10 KJV
9
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth The Lord Jesus, and shalt
believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou
shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto
righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto Salvation.
AMAZING GRACE
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.
’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!
Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who called me here below,
Will be forever mine.
When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.
