Faith And Determination
Bible Questions Answered:
“Was it cruel of Jesus to tell the
Greek woman , with a possessed child, that He had been sent to
minister to the Jews …”

Bible Answer:
Bible Text:
Matthew 15:21-28 NLT (A Gentile
woman comes to Jesus.)
21 Then Jesus left Galilee and went
north to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
22 A Gentile woman who lived
there came to Him, pleading, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of
David! For my daughter is possessed by a demon that torments her
severely.”
23 But Jesus gave her no reply,
not even a word. Then His disciples urged Him to send her away.
“Tell her to go away,” they said. “She is bothering us with all
her begging.”
24 Then Jesus said to the woman,
“I was sent only to help God’s lost sheep—the people of
Israel.”
25 But she came and worshiped
Him, pleading again, “Lord, help me!”
26 Jesus responded, “It isn’t
right to take food from the children and throw it to the dogs.”
27 She replied, “That’s true,
Lord, but even dogs are allowed to eat the scraps that fall beneath
their masters’ table.”
28 “Dear woman,” Jesus said
to her, “your faith is great. Your request is granted.” And her
daughter was instantly healed.
Our dear Lord,
knows only too well our limitations and capabilities!
Jesus knew of the
condition of the woman's daughter before she even spoke.
He also knew the
mother had a measure of faith to see her child healed.
It is our Lord's
desire for one and all, to draw out from us, faith!
Our Lord knew that
the mother would not turn around and leave at the silence of His
first response to her!
He wanted her to
press on, for what she wanted!
Luke 18:1-8 NLT
(Parable of Jesus.)
1 One day Jesus
told His disciples a story to show that they should always pray and
never give up.
2 “There was
a judge in a certain city,” he said, “who neither feared God nor
cared about people.
3 A widow of
that city came to him repeatedly, saying, ‘Give me justice in this
dispute with my enemy.’
4 The judge
ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, ‘I don’t
fear God or care about people,
5 but this
woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice,
because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’”
6 Then The Lord
said, “Learn a lesson from this unjust judge.
7 Even he
rendered a just decision in the end. So don’t you think God will
surely give justice to His chosen people who cry out to Him day and
night? Will He keep putting them off?
8 I tell
you, He will grant justice to them quickly! But when The Son Of Man
returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?”
And today, our
Lord, wishes to draw out from us faith! Faith for the miraculous. And
we may have it, if we would only press on!
Too many give up,
without extending any effort at all to succeed.
Calling the
Gentile race, including herself, a dog, could have sent many “weak,”
souls packing, but not a mother that loved her child with all her
heart and soul, and who was determined that she be well!
Matthew 15:25 NLT
But she came
and worshiped Him, pleading again, “Lord, help me!”
Certainly one necessary ingredient, beside faith, is worshiping The
Lord.
No one who has ever worshiped The Lord, and gone away empty.
Yes, she may well have been a Gentile, dog, but even a dog receives
scraps from the table of his master, she replied.
Matthew 15:28
NLT
“Dear woman,”
Jesus said to her, “your faith is great. Your request is
granted.” And her daughter was instantly healed.
If we but, in worship ask The Lord, to increase our faith, He
will help us!
Mark 9:23,24 NLT (Mark 9:14-29)
23 “What do
you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if
a person believes.”
24 The father
instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my
unbelief!”
Romans 10:17 KJV
So then
faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by The Word Of God.
Why is it some people accomplish great things in their lives for The
Lord, while a vast majority, nothing?
The answer according to our story, is Faith, and
Determination.
Matthew 17:19,20
NLT
19 Afterward
the disciples asked Jesus privately, “Why couldn’t we cast out
that demon?”
20 “You don’t
have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you The Truth, if
you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this
mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing
would be impossible.”
