Sin - Degrees Of
Bible Questions Answered:
“How many different degrees of sin are there?...”
Ralph/ Berlin, Germany
Now, we can just hear a chorus of spiritual pundits roaring, no way, all sins are the same, and will keep you out of heaven.
Yes, sin will keep anyone out of heaven, but are all sins the same?
No, there are degrees of sin!
BUT BEFORE YOU RUN OFF SAYING THIS POST IS NOT OF GOD, PLEASE, PLEASE HEAR THE REST OF THE STORY.
Yes, there are degrees of sin, yes there are degrees of punishment in hell, and degrees of reward in heaven, this our scripture plainly teaches.
BUT THE FACT REMAINS:- - - THE SMALLEST SIN, NO MATTER WHAT IT IS, WILL KEEP A PERSON OUT OF HEAVEN!!!
Sin, is sin.
James 2:10 KJV
For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
Galatians 3:10 KJV
But those who depend on the law to make them right with God are under His curse, for the Scriptures say, “Cursed is everyone who does not observe and obey all the commands that are written in God’s Book of the Law.”
John 3:16-18 KJV
16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of The Only Begotten Son Of God.
Salvation is not contingent upon life's degrees of sin!
Salvation is contingent upon, receiving Christ the only Savior of the world, or not!
Degrees Of Eternal Rewards:
(Here are just a few.)
Matthew 5:19 KJV
Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 23:11,12 NLT
11 The greatest among you must be a servant.
12 But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
Matthew 11:20-24 NKJV
20 Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent:
21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
22 But I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. 23 And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
24 But I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you.”
Luke 1:15 KJV
For he (John the baptist) shall be great in the sight of The Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with The Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.
Luke 9:46-48 KJV
46 Then His disciples began arguing about which of them was the greatest.
47 But Jesus knew their thoughts, so He brought a little child to his side.
48 Then He said to them, “Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes Me, and anyone who welcomes Me also welcomes My Father who sent Me. Whoever is the least among you is the greatest.”
Why this speculation over degrees of sin, in the first place?
Speculation because of our Lords words to Pilot.
John 19:10,11 KJV
10 Then saith Pilate unto Him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?
11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against Me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered Me unto thee hath the greater sin.
And Jesus was speaking either of Caiaphas, the High Priest or Judas Iscariot.
Caiaphas a Jewish high priest, certainly should have known the words of the prophets. Judas was one of the twelve disciples, and call a friend, by Jesus.
Yes there are no doubt, degrees of sin, but one of the smallest sins, would keep one out of heaven forever!
Now, also there are different “kinds,” of sin.
There are sins of Innocence, of Omission, and of Commission.
Sins Of Innocence:
Leviticus 4:1,2,13 NLT
1 Then The Lord said to Moses,
2 “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. This is how you are to deal with those who sin unintentionally by doing anything that violates one of The Lord’s commands.
13 “If the entire Israelite community sins by violating one of The Lord’s commands, but the people don’t realize it, they are still guilty.
Sins Of Omission:
Leviticus 5:17 NLT
“Suppose you sin by violating one of The Lord’s commands. Even if you are unaware of what you have done, you are guilty and will be punished for your sin.
Sins Of Commission:
Numbers 15:30 NLT
“But those who brazenly violate The Lord’s will, whether native-born Israelites or foreigners, have blasphemed The Lord, and they must be cut off from the community.
Ezekiel 8:6, 13 NLT
6 “Son of man,” He said, “do you see what they are doing? Do you see the detestable sins the people of Israel are committing to drive Me from My Temple? But come, and you will see even more detestable sins than these!”
13 Then The Lord added, “Come, and I will show you even more detestable sins than these!”
Matthew 23:34 NLT
Therefore, I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers of religious law. But you will kill some by crucifixion, and you will flog others with whips in your synagogues, chasing them from city to city.
No matter what the sin, no matter under what heading it has been committed, all are “guilty and will be punished for (their) sin.
Only through The Lord Jesus, is there salvation.
Isaiah 53:6 KJV
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and The Lord hath laid on Him (Jesus Christ) the iniquity of us all.
II Corinthians 5:21 KJV
For He hath made Him (Jesus Christ) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.
Luke 19:10 KJV
For The Son Of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
John 5:24 KJV
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth My Word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
Acts 2:21 KJV
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of The Lord shall be saved
