Fresh Oil

Bible Questions Answered:
“It seems to me that many older Christians are becoming less interested in the things of God...”
Carrie/ Sydney, Australia (New South Wales)

Bible Answer:
A sign Jesus warned about:

Matthew 25:1-13 KJV
1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet The Bridegroom.
2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5 While The Bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, The Bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet Him.
7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
10 And while they went to buy, The Bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with Him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
12 But He answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein The Son Of Man cometh.

All these young ladies were virgins, waiting to join the Bridegroom, thinking that then they would be invited in to join the wedding celebration.

But of the ten, five were wise, and five were foolish. The wise virgins, had taken an extra supply of oil, to ensure that their lamps would be burning, well into the night, if need be.
The foolish virgins, had no extra oil, no extra provision, and their lamps eventually died out.

What is the message of such a story. We must be sure to have a generous supply of oil (Type of God The Holy Spirit). Our lamps (our testimony, our life) cannot burn brightly today, on yesterdays oil, for that has come and gone, fresh oil is needed for today.

We cannot live on a Christian experience we had last year, we must have a fresh infilling of God's Spirit every day, or our lamps will go out!

Luke 13:24-28 KJV
24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
25 When once The Master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and He shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:
26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.
27 But He shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from Me, all ye workers of iniquity.
28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth..."

They knew The Lord, but had no allegiance to Him.

Matthew 7:21 KJV
Not every one that saith unto Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of My Father which is in heaven.

Revelation 3:14-22 KJV
14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith The Amen, The Faithful and True Witness, The Beginning Of The Creation Of God;
15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18 I counsel thee to buy of Me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eye salve, that thou mayest see.
19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup (fellowship) with him, and he with Me.
21 To him that over cometh will I grant to sit with Me in My throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with My Father in His throne.
22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what The Spirit saith unto the churches.

We as God's children must turn from lukewarmness, to drawing near The Lord who loves us so dearly.

James 4:8 NLT
Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.

Psalm 85:6 KJV
Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?

Isaiah 57:15 KJV
For thus saith The High And Lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

REVIVE US AGAIN

We praise Thee, O God!
For the Son of Thy love,
For Jesus Who died,
And is now gone above.

Refrain:
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Hallelujah! Amen.
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Revive us again.

We praise Thee, O God!
For Thy Spirit of light,
Who hath shown us our Savior,
And scattered our night.

All glory and praise
To the Lamb that was slain,
Who hath borne all our sins,
And hath cleansed every stain.

All glory and praise
To the God of all grace,
Who hast brought us, and sought us,
And guided our ways.

Revive us again;
Fill each heart with Thy love;
May each soul be rekindled
With fire from above.
