Holy Spirit-Conviction
Bible Questions Answered:
“Are we suppose
to pray for conviction?”
Cody/ Syracuse,
New York (U.S.A.)
Bible Answer:
No, and we do not
need to because
“Conviction,
is the work of God The Holy Spirit.
John 16:5-15 NLT (The Holy
Spirit)
5 “But now I am going away to the
one who sent Me, and not one of you is asking where I am going.
6 Instead, you grieve because of
what I’ve told you.
7 But in fact, it is best for you
that I go away, because if I don’t, The Advocate won’t come. If I
do go away, then I will send Him to you.
8 And when He comes, He will
convict (KJV Reprove*), the
world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming
judgment.
9 The world’s sin is that it
refuses to believe in Me.
10 Righteousness is available
because I go to The Father, and you will see Me no more.
11 Judgment will come because the
ruler of this world has already been judged.
12 “There is so much more I want
to tell you, but you can’t bear it now.
13 When The Spirit Of Truth comes,
He will guide you into all Truth. He will not speak on His own but
will tell you what He has heard. He will tell you about the future.
14 He will bring Me glory by telling
you whatever He receives from Me.
15 All that belongs to The Father is
Mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever He
receives from Me.’
*Reprove-Greek:
Elegcho (El-eng-kho): To
confute, admonish: convict, convince, tell a fault, rebuke, reprove.
Romans 2:14-15 NLT (Conscience Under Conviction-God's Holy
Spirit, at work.)
14 Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that
they know His law when they instinctively obey it, even without
having heard it.
15 They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts,
for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them
they are doing right.
16 And this is the message I proclaim—that the day is coming
when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone’s secret life.
The Holy
Spirit, Brings Conviction:
Psalm 32:1-5 NLT
1 Oh, what joy
for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of
sight!
2 Yes, what joy
for those whose record The Lord has cleared of guilt, whose lives are
lived in complete honesty!
3 When I
refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day
long.
4 Day and night
your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like
water in the summer heat.
5 Finally, I
confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt.
I said to
myself, “I will confess my rebellion to The Lord.” And you
forgave me! All my guilt is gone.
Psalm
38:4-8,18,21,22 NLT
4 My guilt
overwhelms me— it is a burden too heavy to bear.
5 My wounds
fester and stink because of my foolish sins.
6 I am bent
over and racked with pain. All day long I walk around filled with
grief.
7 A raging
fever burns within me, and my health is broken.
8 I am
exhausted and completely crushed. My groans come from an anguished
heart.
18 But I
confess my sins; I am deeply sorry for what I have done.
21 Do not
abandon me, O Lord. Do not stand at a distance, my God.
22 Come quickly
to help me, O Lord my savior.
Psalm
51:1-12,15-17 NLT (Holy Spirit
Conviction.)
1 Have mercy on
me, O God, because of your unfailing love. Because of your great
compassion, blot out the stain of my sins.
2 Wash me clean
from my guilt. Purify me from my sin.
3 For I
recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night.
4 Against you,
and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight.
You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against
me is just.
5 For I was
born a sinner— yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.
6 But you
desire honesty from the womb, teaching me wisdom even there.
7 Purify me
from my sins, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than
snow.
8 Oh, give me
back my joy again; you have broken me— now let me rejoice.
9 Don’t keep
looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt.
10 Create in me
a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.
11 Do not
banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from
me.
12 Restore to
me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.
15 Unseal my
lips, O Lord, that my mouth may praise you.
16 You do not
desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one. You do not want a burnt
offering.
17 The
sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken
and repentant heart, O God.
Acts 2:36-39 NLT
(Holy Spirit Conviction through
preaching The Word.)
36 “So let
everyone in Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus,
whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah!”
37 Peter’s
words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other
apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?”
38 Peter
replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and
be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your
sins. Then you will receive The Gift Of The Holy Spirit.
39 This promise
is to you, and to your children, and even to the Gentiles—all who
have been called by The Lord our God.”
Acts 16:14 KJV (Holy Spirit Conviction through preaching
The Word.)
And a certain
woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which
worshiped God, heard us: whose heart The Lord opened, that she
attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
Acts 24:24,25
NLT (Holy Spirit Conviction
through preaching The Word.)
24 A few days
later Felix came back with his wife, Drusilla, who was Jewish.
Sending for Paul, they listened as he told them about faith in Christ
Jesus.
25 As he
reasoned with them about righteousness and self-control and the
coming day of judgment, Felix became frightened. “Go away for now,”
he replied. “When it is more convenient, I’ll call for you
again.”
I Thessalonians 1:5,6 KJV (Holy Spirit Conviction through
preaching The Word.)
5 For our
gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in The
Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we
were among you for your sake.
6 And ye became
followers of us, and of The Lord, having received The Word in much
affliction, with joy of The Holy Ghost.
I Corinthians 14:24,25 NLT (Holy Spirit Conviction Through
Spiritual Gifts.)
24 But if all
of you are prophesying, and unbelievers or people who don’t
understand these things come into your meeting, they will be
convicted of sin and judged by what you say.
25 As they
listen, their secret thoughts will be exposed, and they will fall to
their knees and worship God, declaring, “God is truly here among
you.”
The Spirit Of
God, keeps our lives focused on the things of God.
Romans 8:5-9 KJV
5 For they that
are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that
are after The Spirit the things of The Spirit.
6 For to be
carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and
peace.
7 Because the
carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law
of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they
that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are
not in the flesh, but in The Spirit, if so be that The Spirit Of God
dwell in you. Now if any man have not The Spirit Of Christ, he is
none of His.
The Spirit Of
God, reminds us who we are.
Romans 8:15,16
KJV
15 For ye have
not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have
received
The Spirit Of
Adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit
itself (Him self) beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the
children of God:
Galatians 4:6
KJV
And because ye
are sons, God hath sent forth The Spirit Of His Son into your hearts,
crying, Abba, Father.
The Spirit Of
God, brings God's people wisdom and insight.
I Corinthians
2:8-10;14-16 NLT
8 But the
rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would
not have crucified our glorious Lord.
9 That is what
the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has
heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who
love Him.”
10 But, it was
to us that God revealed these things by His Spirit. For His Spirit
searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets
14 But people
who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these Truths from God’s
Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it,
for only those who are spiritual can understand what The Spirit
means.
15 Those who
are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be
evaluated by others.
16 For, “Who
can know The Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach Him?” But
we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.
Ephesians
1:17,18 NLT
17 asking God,
The Glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual
wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God.
18 I pray that
your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the
confident hope He has given to those He called—His holy people who
are His rich and glorious inheritance
