Bible Answer:
Bible Text:
Mark 9:50 KJV
Salt is good: but if the salt have
lost his saltiness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in
yourselves, and have peace one with another.
In our Lord's day,
the refrigerator was unknown. Carl von Linde, a German engineer,
created the refrigeration process in 1876. The question is then, how
did people preserve their food?
The answer is they
preserved their food by the use of salt.
The use of salt as
a preservative had been used for thousands of years.
Salt is said to cur
meat and other foods, by drawing out any moisture from the food,
moisture which is essential for microbial growth. Pathogenic microbes
cannot grow in the presence of salt. Salt was the perfect
preservative, to keep foods safe.
Salt was commanded
to be placed on every offering …
Leviticus 2:13
KJ21
And every oblation of thy meat
offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou allow
the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy
meat offering. With all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt.
Our Lord's prayer for His people.
John 17:14-19
KJV
14 I have given
them thy Word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of
the world, even as I am not of the world.
15 I pray not
that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou
shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 They are not
of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify
them through thy Truth: thy Word is Truth.
18 As thou hast
sent Me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 And for
their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified
through
The Truth.
The gospel, sanctifies, i.e. Sets God's people apart from the world,
consecrates, promotes purity, freedom from sin, just as salt gives
freedom from microbial pathogens.
I Thessalonians
5:23
And the very
God Of Peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole
spirit and soul and body
be preserved
blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
II Corinthians 6:14-18 NLT (God's Child the Temple of The
Living God.)
14 Don’t team
up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner
with wickedness? How can light live with darkness?
15 What harmony
can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a believer be a
partner with an unbeliever?
16 And what
union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the
temple of
The Living God.
As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be
their God, and they will be my people.
17 Therefore,
come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them,
says The Lord. Don’t touch their filthy things, and I will welcome
you.
18 And I will
be your Father, and you will be My sons and daughters, says The Lord
Almighty.”
God's child, a spiritual preservative in the world.
Matthew 5:13,14
NLT
13 “You are
the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its
flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and
trampled underfoot as worthless.
14 “You are
the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be
hidden.
15 No one
lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is
placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.
16 In the same
way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone
will praise your Heavenly Father.
“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has
lost its flavor?"
Paraphrase:
"You are the spiritual preservative of the earth. But what good
is your preservation, if you have lost your preserving potency?"
We as God's children are a spiritual preservative, if we remain full
of God's Word, and His Spirit.
Colossians 4:6
KJV
Let your speech
be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye
ought to answer every man.
