Bible-Names For The
Bible Questions Answered:
“What does the word bible mean by
itself...”
Heriberto/ El Cajon, California
Bible Answer:
The Word "Bible," does not
appear in the Word of God. Bible has a Greek origin from the word for
papyrus. Papyrus was a plant the Egyptians used in the making of
paper. Greeks called the papyrus plant biblos. Scrolls were written
on papyrus and thus they were known as biblos. The Greek word
"biblia," means scrolls or books.
The Bible is such a writing, a
compilation of books, and it has gone by many names.
