Lamp-A Shiniing

Bible Questions Answered:
“..these are friends of ours, but though we've tried to witness to them, nothing seems to take hold.”
Sylvie/ Annecy, France

Bible Answer:

In the Holy Land, is the custom, whether rich or poor, at night to have a lamp burning.
A simple clay lamp, filled with olive oil, a wick of flax, and a house may be full of light.

Light to them spoke of the victory of life over death, goodness over evil. Darkness was as evil, and death.

There were only two occasions in which a house could be found dark. One, when someone had moved out of the house and it was empty, the other, when the resident was dead.

Job 18:5,6 KJV
5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.
6 The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.

Proverbs 13:9 KJV
The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

John 8:12 KJV
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the Light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the Light of Life.

If after, having prayed and given the seed, the Word of God, there is no life, Jesus said...

Matthew 13:3-9 KJV
3 And He spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;
4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:
5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth:
6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:
8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundred fold, some sixty fold, some thirty fold.
9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Joshua called his people to decide:

Joshua 24:2,14,15 NLT
2 Joshua said to the people, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says..."
14 “...fear the Lord and serve Him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone.
15 But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

A house filled with the light of the Lord:

Psalm 18:28 KJV
For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.

Psalm 27:1 KJV
The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalm 34:5 KJV
They looked unto Him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.

Psalm 36:9 KJV
For with thee is the Fountain of Life: in thy light shall we see light.

Psalm 37:6 KJV
And He shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.

Psalm 89:15 KJV
Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance.

Psalm 97:11 KJV
Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

Psalm 112:4 KJV
Unto the upright there ariseth Light in the darkness: He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

Psalm 119:105,130 KJV
105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

Proverbs 4:18 KJV
But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

Proverbs 6:23 KJV
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

Isaiah 2:5 KJV
"...come ye, and let us walk in the light of the LORD.

Isaiah 5:20 KJV
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

Isaiah 9:2 KJV
The people that walked in darkness have seen a great Light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the Light shined.

Isaiah 42:16 KJV
And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.

How is your house?
Is it full of light and life, or is it in blackness, and spiritual death?

I Kings 15:4,5 NLT
4 But for David’s sake, the Lord his God allowed his descendants to continue ruling,
shining like a lamp..."
5 For David had done what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight and had obeyed the Lord’s commands throughout his life..."
