Bible Lesson: Miracles Of The Old Testament: The Rod Of Moses Changed Into A Serpent.

Bible Lesson: Miracles Of The Old Testament: The Rod Of Moses Changed Into A Serpent.

Occasion: The Revelation Of God's Power.

Location: Horeb.

Bible Text:
Exodus 3:14-20 KJV
14 And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and He said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.
15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, the Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is My name for ever, and this is My memorial unto all generations.
16 Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt:
17 And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, unto a land flowing with milk and honey.
18 And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, The Lord God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.
19 And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand.
20 And I will stretch out My hand, and smite Egypt with all My wonders which I will do in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you go.

Exodus 4:1-5 KJV
1 And Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The Lord hath not appeared unto thee.
2 And the Lord said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.
3 And He said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.
4 And the Lord said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:
5 That they may believe that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.

At Moses experience of the burning bush, God called and instructed him.

Exodus 3:18 KJV ”...unto the king of Egypt, and ye shall say unto him, The Lord God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.”

Exodus 4:2-4 KJV
2 And the Lord said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.
3 And He said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from before it.
4 And the Lord said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:

God gave Moses the power to preform three different signs, the first of which is discussed here.

Can God do the miraculous?

Genesis 18:14 KJV (The Lord's promise to 100 year old Abraham, that he would become a father.)
Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah (90) shall have a son.

Matthew 19:26 KJV
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

Luke 18:27 KJV
And He said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.

Our God lives in the supernatural, what is considered supernatural by man, is only natural to Him.

But can our supernatural all powerful God, endue men with power?
Yes!
God told Moses.....

Exodus 4:2-4 KJV (Signs by the hands of Moses. First sign.)

This “sign,” was to show the Hebrews, that God, indeed had called and commissioned Moses, and to  reveal to Pharaoh, the power of the living God.

Today, we cannot help but be reminiscent of our Lord's call to His church.

Luke 16:15-18 KJV (The Great Commission. Signs by the hands of believers.)
15 And He said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In My name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them;
(Explanation:  Kept By The Power Of God  )
they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

John 14:12-14 KJV
12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto My Father.
13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing in My name, I will do it.

Luke 24:49 KJV (Christ's promise of Pentecost.)
And, behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with Power from on high.

Acts 1:8 KJV
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Moses went before all of Isarael and showed them the power that God had intrusted to him and....

Exodus 4:29-31 NLT
29 Then Moses and Aaron returned to Egypt and called all the elders of Israel together.
30 Aaron told them everything the Lord had told Moses, and Moses performed the miraculous signs as they watched.
31 Then the people of Israel were convinced that the Lord had sent Moses and Aaron. When they heard that the Lord was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped.

The people of God, having seen the power of God, bowed their knees and worshiped!
But the Lord said of Pharaoh, his heart was only hardened, hardened against God.

Exodus 3:19 NLT
But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless a mighty hand forces him.

Unbelief and rebellion, was Pharaoh's answer.

And what dear child of God, of the signs and power of God in the midst of His people today?
There will always be the Pharaohs with their hardened hearts!
But thank God, there always will be a people, who will bow the knee and worship the living God, in thanksgiving!

Which one are you?

Matthew 11:1-6 KJV
1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding His twelve disciples, He departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.
2 Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples,
3 And said unto Him, Art thou He that should come, or do we look for another?
4 Jesus answered and said unto them, Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see:
5 The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in Me.

Matthew 17:20 KJV
And Jesus said unto them...If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Mark 9:23 KJV
Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

Luke 9:1,2 KJV
1  One day Jesus called together his twelve disciples and gave them power and authority to cast out all demons and to heal all diseases.
2 Then He sent them out to tell everyone about the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

Luke 10:1,9,17-19  KJV
1 After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before His face into every city and place, whither He Himself would come.
9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
18 And He said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. (Explanation:  Kept By The Power Of God  )

The enemy before us today is greater than the Pharaoh of Egypt, and yet the victory belongs to the people of God!

II Corinthians 4:4 KJV
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the Light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

I John 4:4 KJV
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.

I Corinthians 15:57 KJV
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

I John 5:4 KJV
For whatsoever is born of God over cometh the world: and this is the victory that over cometh the world, even our faith.

John 9:4 KJV
I must work the works of Him that sent Me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
