Bible Questions Answered: Brotherhood

Bible Questions Answered:
Is it ok to call anyone all our sisters or brothers?
Hattiesburg, Mississippi U.S.A.

Bible Answer:
As a Christian, no, it is not.

It is OK to call everyone our friends, and to love them and to reach out to help them, all we humanly can, but to be a brother or sister (And of course this not considered in the paternal sense, then must, by necessity be, spiritual in nature.) one must be in “...the faith which was once delivered unto the saints."
Jude 3 KJV

Here is our Lord's answer concerning this issue.

Matthew 12:46-50 KJV
46 While He yet talked to the people, behold, His mother and His brethren stood without, desiring to speak with Him.
47 Then one said unto Him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.
48 But He answered and said unto him that told Him, Who is My mother? and who are My brethren?
49 And He stretched forth His hand toward His disciples, and said, Behold My mother and My brethren!
50 For whosoever shall do the will of My Father which is in heaven, the same is My brother, and sister, and mother

Matthew 12:46-50 The New American Standard Bible
46 While He was still speaking to the crowds, behold, His mother and (brothers were standing outside, seeking to speak to Him.
47 Someone said to Him, "Behold, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside seeking to speak to You."
48 But Jesus answered the one who was telling Him and said, "Who is My mother and who are My brothers?"
49 And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, "Behold My mother and My brothers!
50 "For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother."

The wonderful answer to this is, the Christian faith is non-exclusive!

Then Peter replied, “I see very clearly that God shows no favoritism.

1 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
2 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labor for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto Me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
3 Incline your ear, and come unto Me: hear, and your soul shall live..."

Joel 2:32 KJV

39 (When He said “living water,” He was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in Him..."

5 For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus;
6 Who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

II Peter 3:9 KJV
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is long suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
