Bible Questions Answered: Gospels-Why Four?

Bible Questions Answered
Why does the Bible have only four gospels?
Henry/ Walnut Grove, Mississippi

Bible Answer:
The four gospels, represent the the Lord Jesus.

These Cherubim, represent the Lord, each of them had four faces.

In
Ezekiel 1:4-14 (Ezekiel had a vision of four Cherubim.)
[4] And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire.
[5] Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.
[6] And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings.
[7] And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf's foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass.
[8] And they had the hands of a man under their wings on their four sides; and they four had their faces and their wings.
[9] Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not when they went; they went every one straight forward.
[10] As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the face of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: and they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle.
[11] Thus were their faces: and their wings were stretched upward; two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies.
[12] And they went every one straight forward: whither the spirit was to go, they went; and they turned not when they went.
[13] As for the likeness of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the appearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning.
[14] And the living creatures ran and returned as the appearance of a flash of lightning.

Revelation 4:6-8 NLT
6 In front of the throne was a shiny sea of glass, sparkling like crystal.
In the center and around the throne were four living beings, each covered with eyes, front and back.
7 The first of these living beings was like a lion;
the second was like an ox;
the third had a human face;
and the fourth was like an eagle in flight.
8 Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered all over with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying,

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—
the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.”

What do these four faces represent?
They represent the four gospels, which depict the Lord Jesus.

The Gospel of Matthew:
Here the Lord Jesus is shown as the "Lion of the Tribe of Judah."
Israel's King.

Daniel 7:14 KJV "And there was given Him Dominion, and Glory, and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve Him: His Dominion is an Everlasting Dominion, which shall not pass away, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed."

The Gospel of Mark:
Here the Lord Jesus is shown as the "Ox,"
Laboring patiently, in the service of His Father. Giving His life as a sacrifice.

Philippians 2:5-11 KJV
[5] Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
[6] Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
[7] But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a Servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
[8] And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
[9] Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name:
[10] That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
[11] And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The Gospel of Luke:
Here the Lord Jesus is shown as the "Son of Man."
Representing lost humanity, and bearing their sin.

Matthew 20:27,28 KJV
[27] And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:
[28] Even as the Son of Man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many.

The Gospel of John:
Here the Lord Jesus is shown as the "Eagle."
He came from heaven (became flesh), and went back up to heaven.
Because He became flesh...

Hebrews 4:14-16 KJV
[14] Seeing then that we have a Great High Priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
[15] For we have not an High Priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
[16] Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
