Bible Lesson: Miracles Of The Old Testament: Miracle Of Purifying Poisoned Food.

Bible Lesson: Miracles Of The Old Testament: Miracle Of Purifying Poisoned Food.

Occasion: Sons Of The Prophets Eat Miracle Food.

Location: Gilgal

Bible Text:
II Kings 4:38-41 NLT
38 Elisha now returned to Gilgal, and there was a famine in the land. One day as the group of prophets was seated before him, he said to his servant, “Put a large pot on the fire, and make some stew for the rest of the group.”
39 One of the young men went out into the field to gather herbs and came back with a pocketful of wild gourds. He shredded them and put them into the pot without realizing they were poisonous.
40 Some of the stew was served to the men. But after they had eaten a bite or two they cried out, “Man of God, there’s poison in this stew!” So they would not eat it.
41 Elisha said, “Bring me some flour.” Then he threw it into the pot and said, “Now it’s all right; go ahead and eat.” And then it did not harm them.

II Kings 4:38-40 NLT

40 Some of the stew was served to the men. But after they had eaten a bite or two they cried out, “Man of God, there’s poison in this stew!” So they would not eat it.

The young followers, sons of the prophets, who were under the guidance of Elisha, were hungry.
Elisha told them, “Put a large pot on the fire, and make some stew for the rest of the group.”

A young man went out to seek out any vegetables, if any he could find, to help make a stew. And to his luck and surprise, there were some gourds, that no one else had seen (in famine) so he gladly filled his lap with as many as he could carry.

Wait a minute, there's a lesson here.....wait on it....
Selah in the musical book of Psalms, because many were sung, was a musical pause, that meant to “stop and listen,” or to “stop and think on this.”

Poison in the pot, well, it has to be said, as if we didn't know it.

Friends, all the good intentions in the world doesn't mean its good, or life giving!
(Well, OK, read it a few times.)

In 1150 A.D. Saint Bernard of Clairvaux wrote, the so well remembered proverb.
“The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”

If what your church teaches isn't in the Word Of God, then it is a Tradition Of Men, and not
The Truth of The Word!

Mark 7:8 KJV
For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men..."

Colossians 2:8 KJV
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Well, how can you know if your church is correct or not?
Our spiritual instruction, had better be accurate and truthful, or we as a people, will find ourselves in the wrath of God, and not His blessings.
And pity the pour soul, who abrogates his spiritual responsibility to the good faith of others,
blindly believing the authenticity of their spiritual instruction.

Acts 17:10-12 NLT The Noble Bereans.)
10 That very night the believers sent Paul and Silas to Berea. When they arrived there, they went to the Jewish synagogue.
11 And the people of Berea were more open-minded (Noble-KJV) than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching The Truth.
12 As a result, many Jews believed, as did many of the prominent Greek women and men.

Friend, there is a lot of stew in the pot!
Wherever you look someone has a religious book, movie, radio, or T.V. Promotion.

It's a spiritual mine field out there!
And yes, the poisonous ones lead to death, spiritual death!

II Kings 4:38 NLT
One of the young men went out into the field to gather herbs and came back with a pocketful of wild gourds..."

Why had the young man found so many gourds, to his surprise? He did so because they were poisonous!

And it is no, different in our world today, there is poison, and it is plentiful.

How can one know what to believe?

Have your King James Bible, by your side and commit yourself to read, at least a chapter a day.
Yes, there are a thousand other versions out there, all demanding to be read, but there is only one Standard, and that dearest friend is The Holy King James Bible.

Yes, having other versions may make some obscure passage more understandable, but never,
never let them be your “Standard,” of Truth, as the King James Bible!

Your spiritual health, is no ones responsibility, ….................. but your own!
Neglect it, abrogate its care and keeping to others, because you have better things to do,.......
than prepare one day to reap the reward of blind allegiance!

Eternal Life (Existing, lasting, forever; without end.) is a very, serious thing! A wrong choice, may “not,” be remade, or done over!

Hebrews 9:27 KJV
"... it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

If you want to live, know what you eat!

II Kings 4:41 NLT
Elisha said, “Bring me some flour.” Then he threw it into the pot and said, “Now it’s all right; go ahead and eat.” And then it did not harm them.

How many a dear soul, has said, “all my life I was taught this, I was taught that, but now I know that what I was taught, was all an error.”

John 8:31,32 KJV
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on Him, If ye continue in My Word, then are ye My disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know The Truth, and The Truth shall make you free.

John 14:6 KJV
Jesus saith unto him, I am The Way, The Truth, and The Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.

Thank God, there is healing for those who have been poisoned!
Thank God, there is a deliverer, life giving healer, His name is The Lord Jesus Christ,
God the eternal Father's eternal Son.

Isaiah 42:6,7 KJV
6 I the Lord have called thee..."
7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.

Isaiah 58:6 KJV
Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free..."

Isaiah 61:1 KJV
The Spirit Of The Lord God is upon me; because The Lord hath anointed Me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

Luke 4:18,19 KJV
18 The Spirit Of The Lord is upon Me, because He hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of The Lord.

John 8:36 KJV
If The Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

John 1:1-4 KJV
1 In the beginning was The Word, and The Word was with God, and The Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.

4 In Him was Life; and The Life was The Light of men.
