Bible Lesson: Miracles Of The Old
Testament: 100 Soldiers And Two
Army Captians Of Ahaziah's Slain.
Occasion: Judgment
Of Ahaziah, For Seeking Answers From An Idol.
Location: Near to Samaria.
Bible Text:
II Kings 1:2-17 NLT
2 One day Israel’s new king,
Ahaziah, fell through the latticework of an upper room at his palace
in Samaria and was seriously injured. So he sent messengers to the
temple of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask whether he would
recover.
3 But The Angel Of The Lord told
Elijah, who was from Tishbe, “Go and confront the messengers of the
king of Samaria and ask them, ‘Is there no God in Israel? Why are
you going to Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask whether the king
will recover?
4 Now, therefore, this is what The
Lord says: You will never leave the bed you are lying on; you will
surely die.’” So Elijah went to deliver the message.
5 When the messengers returned to
the king, he asked them, “Why have you returned so soon?”
6 They replied, “A man came up to
us and told us to go back to the king and give him this message.
‘This is what The Lord says: Is there no God in Israel? Why are you
sending men to Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask whether you will
recover? Therefore, because you have done this, you will never leave
the bed you are lying on; you will surely die.’”
7 “What sort of man was he?” the
king demanded. “What did he look like?”
8 They replied, “He was a hairy
man, and he wore a leather belt around his waist.” “Elijah from
Tishbe!” the king exclaimed.
9 Then he sent an army captain with
fifty soldiers to arrest him. They found him sitting on top of a
hill. The captain said to him, “Man of God, the king has commanded
you to come down with us.”
10 But Elijah replied to the
captain, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and
destroy you and your fifty men!” Then fire fell from heaven and
killed them all.
11 So the king sent another captain
with fifty men. The captain said to him, “Man of God, the king
demands that you come down at once.”
12 Elijah replied, “If I am a man
of God, let fire come down from heaven and destroy you and your fifty
men!” And again the fire of God fell from heaven and killed them
all.
13 Once more the king sent a third
captain with fifty men. But this time the captain went up the hill
and fell to his knees before Elijah. He pleaded with him, “O man of
God, please spare my life and the lives of these, your fifty
servants.
14 See how the fire from heaven came
down and destroyed the first two groups. But now please spare my
life!”
15 Then The Angel Of The Lord said
to Elijah, “Go down with him, and don’t be afraid of him.” So
Elijah got up and went with him to the king.
16 And Elijah said to the king,
“This is what The Lord says: Why did you send messengers to
Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask whether you will recover? Is
there no God in Israel to answer your question? Therefore, because
you have done this, you will never leave the bed you are lying on;
you will surely die.”
17 So Ahaziah died, just as The Lord
had promised through Elijah. Since Ahaziah did not have a son to
succeed him, his brother Joram became the next king. This took place
in the second year of the reign of Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat, king
of Judah.
Ahaziah, was the
son of Ahab and Jezebel, idolaters. Jezebel a Phoenician princess was
the daughter of one Ethbaal King of Zidonia. Jezebel established Baal
worship with some 450 prophets of Baal (Male Idol deity), and 400
prophets of Astarte (Ashtoreth female idol deity.). God's prophets
were put to death, until Elijah's contest at Mount Carmel.
As Jezebel's
parents were, so was Jezebel, as Ahaziah's parents were, so was he!
Never, were the
words of Solomon so realized.
Proverbs 22:6
KJV
Train up a child in the way he
should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
II Kings 1:2 NLT
One day Israel’s new king,
Ahaziah, fell through the latticework of an upper room at his palace
in Samaria and was seriously injured...”
Ahaziah had a
palace at Samaria, in his palace one day he fell through a latticed
window from an upper story, seriously injuring himself.

“...So he sent messengers to the temple of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask whether he would recover.
As the 8th
king of Israel, Ahaziah was “not,” to seek anyone except the
Lord!
But from a child he
had been steeped in idolatry, and the god of Ekron, Baal-zebub, he
would seek, for help.
II Kings 1:3 NLT
But The Angel Of The Lord...”
God, knows the
hearts and minds of all men, and He knew what the idolatrous king was
about.
Our God is
Omniscient, having “all,” knowledge.
Job 34:21 KJV
For His eyes are upon the ways of
man, and He seeth all his goings.
Job 42:1,2 KJV

said,
2 I know that thou canst do every
thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.

true, and now I will prophesy again. I will tell you the future
before it happens
Isaiah 46:9,10
KJV
9 Remember the former things of old:
for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none
like Me,
10 Declaring the end from the
beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done,
saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure:
Daniel 2:28 KJV
But there is a God in heaven that
revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what
shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head
upon thy bed, are these;
Hebrews 4:13 KJV
Neither is there any creature that
is not manifest in His sight: but all things are naked and opened
unto the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.
I John 3:20 KJV
For if our heart condemn us, God is
greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
II Kings 1:3,4 KJV
3 But The Angel Of The Lord told
Elijah, who was from Tishbe, “Go and confront the messengers of the
king of Samaria and ask them, ‘Is there no God in Israel? Why are
you going to Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask whether the king

4 Now, therefore, this is what
The Lord says: You will never leave the bed you are lying on; you

Exodus 20:1-6 KJV
1 And God spake
all these words, saying,
2 I am The Lord
thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the
house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt
have no other gods before Me.
4 Thou shalt
not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing
that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is
in the water under the earth.
5 Thou shalt
not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them:
for I The Lord
thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon
the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate
Me;
6 And shewing
mercy unto thousands of them that love Me, and keep My commandments.
Isaiah 42:8 NLT
“I am The
Lord; that is My name! I will not give My glory to anyone else,

Ekron, was a northern Philistine city,
with idols to Baal-zebub and Ashtoreth.
II Kings 1:3 KJV
But The Angel Of The Lord told
Elijah, who was from Tishbe, “Go and confront the messengers of the
king of Samaria and ask them, ‘Is there no God in Israel? Why are
you going to Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask whether the king

When reading the Word of God, always remember that The Angel Of The
Lord, is none other than the eternal Son Of God!
Proof: Exodus 3:1-5
The all seeing and all knowing God, had
seen what the King of Israel, had done!
And He had a message for Ahaziah.
Why, oh why, do people turn to
things that are not of God?
Think it is any different centuries
later in our day? Think again!
Ouija boards, channeling, spirit
guides, etc. etc. etc.
Which is noting but old fashioned
spiritism.
Today, there are some men of
science, with “doctors degrees,” who are …..can you
believe it...channeling alien forms of life, from ufo's. And they are
getting results, with ships appearing, in the sky etc. etc. etc.
And they are getting messages back
through telepathic means.
Friends, these people are communicating
alright, they are getting exciting results from alien life forms
alright, but what they don't know, because they are not in tune with
the God of the universe is, that they are in communication with evil
spirits under the control of Satan, Baal-zebub.
II Thessalonians 2:8-12 KJV
8 And then shall that Wicked be
revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with The Spirit of His mouth,
and shall destroy with the brightness of His coming:
9 Even him, whose coming is after the
working of Satan with all power and signs and lying
wonders,
10 And with all deceivableness of
unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the
love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God shall send
them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12 That they all might be damned who
believed not The Truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
Their real natures, their real agendas, their real enslaving goals, hidden!
II Corinthians 11:13-15 KJV
13 For such are false apostles,
deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of
Christ.
14 And no marvel; for Satan
himself is transformed into an angel of light.
15 Therefore it is no great thing
if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of
righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
II Kings 1:4 NLT
Now, therefore, this is what The
Lord says: You will never leave the bed you are lying on; you will
surely die.’” So Elijah went to deliver the message.
God's answer for an idol seeking king,
was judgment.
“You will never leave the bed
you are lying on; you will surely die.’
II Kings 1:5-8
NLT
5 When the messengers returned to
the king, he asked them, “Why have you returned so soon?”
6 They replied, “A man came up
to us and told us to go back to the king and give him this message.
‘This is what The Lord says: Is there no God in Israel? Why are you
sending men to Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask whether you will
recover? Therefore, because you have done this, you will never leave
the bed you are lying on; you will surely die.’”
7 “What sort of man was he?”
the king demanded. “What did he look like?”
8 They replied, “He was a hairy
man, and he wore a leather belt around his waist.” “Elijah from
Tishbe!” the king exclaimed.
Ahaziah, knew it was the prophet of
God, but he did not fear what the man of God or what he had to say.
II Kings 1:9-12 NLT
9 Then he sent an army captain
with fifty soldiers to arrest him.
11 So the king sent another
captain with fifty men. The captain said to him, “Man of God, the
king demands that you come down at once.”
12 Elijah replied, “If I am a
man of God, let fire come down from heaven and destroy you and your
fifty men!” And again the fire of God fell from heaven and killed
them all.
Knowing it was the prophet of the Lord,
who had sent a warning to him, yet Ahaziah was determined to show
the prophet just who was in charge!
But, the fire of God fell and consumed
the army captain, and his fifty men.
Again, not taking no for an answer,
Ahaziah, was “no more Mr. Nice Guy,” he was now demanding
Elijah's return with his men.
But again, fire fell from heaven, and
consumed the men and their captian.
Then a third time, Ahaziah sent fifty
men and a captain to call Elijah to come.
But this time their plea was more
conciliatory.
I Kings 1:13-15 NLT
13 Once more the king sent a
third captain with fifty men. But this time the captain went up the
hill and fell to his knees before Elijah. He pleaded with him, “O
man of God, please spare my life and the lives of these, your fifty
servants.
14 See how the fire from heaven
came down and destroyed the first two groups. But now please spare my
life!”
15 Then The Angel Of The Lord
said to Elijah, “Go down with him, and don’t be afraid of him.”
So Elijah got up and went with him to the king.
In respect and
obeisance, the captain pleaded for his life and the life of his men.
The Lord told
Elijah to go with them, to deliver God's message to the wayward king
in person.
I Kings 1:16,17 NLT
16 And Elijah said to the king,
“This is what The Lord says: Why did you send messengers to
Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, to ask whether you will recover? Is
there no God in Israel to answer your question? Therefore, because
you have done this, you will never leave the bed you are lying on;
you will surely die.”
17 So Ahaziah died, just as The
Lord had promised through Elijah. Since Ahaziah did not have a son to
succeed him, his brother Joram became the next king. This took place
in the second year of the reign of Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat, king
of Judah.
Therefore, because you have done
this, you will never leave the bed you are lying on; you will surely
die.”
17 So Ahaziah died, just as The
Lord had promised through Elijah.
How very careful we must be in
treating lightly, the warnings of God!
God, is keeping some perfect records of
every thought, word and deed of every living
person!
Daniel 7:10 KJV
A fiery stream issued and came forth
from before Him: thousand thousands ministered unto Him, and ten
thousand times ten thousand stood before Him: the judgment was set,
and the books were opened.
Revelation 20:11-15 KJV
11 And I saw a great white throne,
and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled
away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and
great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book
was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out
of those things which were written in the books, according to their
works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead
which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were
in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into
the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found
written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
