Bible Text:
Proverbs 10:1-32 NLT (Solomon)
1 A wise child brings joy to a
father; a foolish child brings grief to a mother.
2 Tainted wealth has
no lasting value, but right living can save your life.
3 The Lord will not let the godly go
hungry, but he refuses to satisfy the craving of the wicked.
4 Lazy people are soon poor;
hard workers get rich.
5 A wise youth harvests in the
summer, but one who sleeps during harvest is a disgrace.
6 The godly are showered with
blessings; the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions.
7 We have happy memories of the
godly, but the name of a wicked person rots away.
8 The wise are glad to be
instructed, but babbling fools fall flat on their faces.
9 People with integrity walk safely,
but those who follow crooked paths will slip and fall.
10 People who wink at wrong cause
trouble, but a bold reproof promotes peace.
11 The words of the godly are a
life-giving fountain; the words of the wicked conceal violent
intentions.
12 Hatred stirs up quarrels, but
love makes up for all offenses.
13 Wise words come from the lips of
people with understanding, but those lacking sense will be beaten
with a rod.
14 Wise people treasure knowledge,
but the babbling of a fool invites disaster.
15 The wealth of the rich
is their fortress; the poverty of the poor is their
destruction.
16 The earnings of the
godly enhance their lives, but evil people squander their money
on sin.
(King James)
16 The labor of the righteous
tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.
17 People who accept discipline are
on the pathway to life, but those who ignore correction will go
astray.
18 Hiding hatred makes you a liar;
slandering others makes you a fool.
19 Too much talk leads to sin. Be
sensible and keep your mouth shut.
20 The words of the godly are like
sterling silver; the heart of a fool is worthless.
21 The words of the godly encourage
many, but fools are destroyed by their lack of common sense.
22 The blessing of the Lord makes a
person rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.
23 Doing wrong is fun for a fool,
but living wisely brings pleasure to the sensible.
24 The fears of the wicked will be
fulfilled; the hopes of the godly will be granted.
25 When the storms of life come, the
wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation.
26 Lazy people irritate their
employers, like vinegar to the teeth or smoke in the eyes.
27 Fear of the Lord lengthens
one’s life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.
28 The hopes of the godly result
in happiness, but the expectations of the wicked come to nothing.
29 The way of the Lord is a
stronghold to those with integrity, but it destroys the wicked.
30 The godly will never be
disturbed, but the wicked will be removed from the land.
31 The mouth of the godly person
gives wise advice, but the tongue that deceives will be cut off.
32 The lips of the godly speak
helpful words, but the mouth of the wicked speaks perverse words.
Throughout this chapter of Proverbs,
Solomon is warning that wealth sought first and foremost, in life,
leads to destruction.
Salvation, however is “never
bought, or earned.”
Thee very idea, what an insult to the
eternal Son of God, who came and gave His life for the salvation of
souls!
Psalm 37:16 KJV
A little that a righteous man hath
is better than the riches of many wicked.
Proverbs 8:35,36 KJV
35 For whoso findeth Me findeth
life, and shall obtain favor of the Lord.
36 But he that sinneth against Me
wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate Me love death.
Isaiah 3:10,11 KJV
10 Say ye to the righteous, that it
shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings.
11 Woe unto the wicked! it shall be
ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.
I Timothy 6:10 KJV
For the love of
money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they
have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many
sorrows.
Isaiah 55:1-3
NLT
1 “Is anyone thirsty? Come and
drink— even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of
wine or milk— it’s all free!
2 Why spend your money on food that
does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good?
Listen to Me, and you will eat what
is good. You will enjoy the finest food.
3 “Come to Me with your ears wide
open. Listen, and you will find life. I will make an everlasting
covenant with you. I will give you all the unfailing love...".
John 3:16 KJV
For God so loved the world, that He
gave His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in
Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 4:10 KJV
(The Samaritan Woman at the well.)
Jesus answered and said unto her, If
thou knewest The Gift of God, and who it is that saith
to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of Him, and He
would have given thee living water.
John 6:27 KJV
Labor not for the meat which
perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life,
which the Son of Man shall give unto you: for Him hath
God the Father sealed.
Romans 3:24 KJV
Being justified freely by
His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Romans 5:15-18
NLT
15 “... there is a great
difference between Adam’s sin and God’s Gracious Gift.
For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even
greater is God’s wonderful grace and His Gift of
forgiveness to many through this other Man, Jesus Christ.
16 And the result of God’s
Gracious Gift is very different from the result of that one
man’s sin. For Adam’s sin led to condemnation, but God’s
Free Gift leads to our being made right with God, even though
we are guilty of many sins.
17 For the sin of this one man,
Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s
wonderful grace and His Gift of Righteousness, for all
who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this
one Man, Jesus Christ.
18 Yes, Adam’s one sin brings
condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness
brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone.
Romans 6:20-23 NLT
20 When you were slaves to sin, you
were free from the obligation to do right.
21 And what was the result? You are
now ashamed of the things you used to do, things that end in eternal
doom.
22 But now you are free from the
power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things
that lead to holiness and result in eternal life.
23 For the wages of sin is death,
but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our
Lord.
Romans 8:32 KJV
He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all,
how shall He not with him also
freely give us all things?
II Corinthians 9:15 KJV
Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift.
Ephesians 2:8,9 KJV
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of
yourselves: it is The Gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Revelation 22:17
KJV
And the Spirit and the bride say,
Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst
come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
