Bible Lesson: Miracles Of The Old Testament: Waters Of The Red Sea, Parted And Returned.

Bible Lesson: Miracles Of The Old Testament: Waters Of The Red Sea, Parted And Returned.

Occasion: Way Of Escape For The Israelites, And A Way of Judgment For The Egyptians.

Location: Near Egypt.

Bible Text: Exodus 14:13-31 NLT (Be sure to read the whole chapter.)
Exodus 14:13-31 NLT

13 But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again.
14 The Lord Himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”

15 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the people to get moving!
16 Pick up your staff and raise your hand over the sea. Divide the water so the Israelites can walk through the middle of the sea on dry ground.
17 And I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they will charge in after the Israelites.
My great glory will be displayed through Pharaoh and his troops, his chariots, and his charioteers.
18 When My glory is displayed through them, all Egypt will see My glory and know that I am the Lord!”
19 Then the Angel of God, who had been leading the people of Israel, moved to the rear of the camp. The pillar of cloud also moved from the front and stood behind them.
20 The cloud settled between the Egyptian and Israelite camps. As darkness fell, the cloud turned to fire, lighting up the night. But the Egyptians and Israelites did not approach each other all night.
21 Then Moses raised his hand over the sea, and the Lord opened up a path through the water with a strong east wind. The wind blew all that night, turning the seabed into dry land.
22 So the people of Israel walked through the middle of the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on each side!
23 Then the Egyptians—all of Pharaoh’s horses, chariots, and charioteers—chased them into the middle of the sea.
24 But just before dawn the Lord looked down on the Egyptian army from the pillar of fire and cloud, and He threw their forces into total confusion.
25 He twisted their chariot wheels, making their chariots difficult to drive. “Let’s get out of here—away from these Israelites!” the Egyptians shouted. “The Lord is fighting for them against Egypt!”
26 When all the Israelites had reached the other side, the Lord said to Moses, “Raise your hand over the sea again. Then the waters will rush back and cover the Egyptians and their chariots and charioteers.”
27 So as the sun began to rise, Moses raised his hand over the sea, and the water rushed back into its usual place. The Egyptians tried to escape, but the Lord swept them into the sea.
28 Then the waters returned and covered all the chariots and charioteers—the entire army of Pharaoh. Of all the Egyptians who had chased the Israelites into the sea, not a single one survived.
29 But the people of Israel had walked through the middle of the sea on dry ground, as the water stood up like a wall on both sides.
30 That is how the Lord rescued Israel from the hand of the Egyptians that day. And the Israelites saw the bodies of the Egyptians washed up on the seashore.
31 When the people of Israel saw the mighty power that the Lord had unleashed against the Egyptians, they were filled with awe before Him. They put their faith in the Lord and in His servant Moses.

Over 400 years the Israelites had served as slaves in Egypt.

Genesis 13: 13,14 KJV
13 And He said unto Abram, Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge..."

But God raised up a deliver, by the name of Moses.
After the ten plagues, Pharaoh was glad to let the children of Israel leave.

But after they had left, it was not long before Pharaoh once again, set out to recapture them, and return them to their slave ship.

Exodus 14:19 NLT
Then the Angel of God, who had been leading the people of Israel, moved to the rear of the camp. The pillar of cloud also moved from the front and stood behind them.

“Pastor, this is why we pray to angels, the angel of the Lord, saved the Israelites.”

If this is your thinking, you, dear friend are in deep spiritual error!

Exodus 20:1-6 KJV
1 And God spake all these words, saying,
2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me;
6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me, and keep My commandments.

(Not to obey the living God, is to despise Him.)

Isaiah 42:8 KJV
I am the LORD: that is My name: and My Glory will I not give to another, neither My praise to graven images.

The disciple John on two occasions, overwhelmed with the heavenly glory before him, bowed down to worship the one, who had shown him the revelations. This person was an angel, and he gave John a warning!

Revelation 19:10 KJV
And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Revelation 22:9 KJV
Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.

“But pastor, the angel had done such wonderful things?”

Yes, but who was the Angel of the Lord? If you don't know the answer to this question, then you need to do what the noble Bereans did!

Acts 17:10-12 NLT
10 That very night the believers sent Paul and Silas to Berea. When they arrived there, they went to the Jewish synagogue.
11 And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.
12 As a result, many Jews believed, as did many of the prominent Greek women and men.

The Angel of the Lord:
Exodus 13:21 KJV
And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:

Who was it that went before the Israelites, as a pillar of cloud by day, and at night in a pillar of fire?
The Lord Jesus Christ!

Exodus 20:1,2 KJV
1 And God spake all these words, saying,
2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

Moses reassured his people saying....

Exodus 14:13,14 NLT
13 ...“Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again.
14 The Lord Himself will fight for you...”

The Lord Himself will fight for you!
Dear friend, if you have a choice between you or the Lord, fighting your enemies, which would you choose?

Psalm 34:4-9 KJV
4 I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
5 They looked unto Him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.
6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The Angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear Him, and delivereth them.
8 O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.
9 O fear the Lord, ye His saints: for there is no want to them that fear Him.

Psalm 91:1-10 KJV
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my Fortress: my God; in Him will I trust.
3 Surely He shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust ( See the blog posting:   Mother-Love  ): His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my Refuge, even the Most High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Isaiah 63:1 NLT
Who is this who comes from Edom, from the city of Bozrah, with His clothing stained red? Who is this in royal robes, marching in His great strength? “It is I, the Lord, announcing your salvation! It is I, the Lord, who has the power to save!”

Matthew 28:18 KJV
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth.

Luke 8:25 KJV
And He said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of Man is this! for He commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey Him.

Pharaoh, thought he had the Israelites boxed in the desert, there was no highway to Canaan, at the east was the sea, mountains to the south, and to the northwest was pharaoh's army.

Is the enemy encamped around you? Take heart Christian!

I Peter 5:8 KJV
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Luke 10:19,20 KJV
19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

Romans 8:37-39 KJV
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I John 4:4 KJV
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Revelation 12:11 KJV
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Exodus 14:21,22 NLT
21 Then Moses raised his hand over the sea, and the Lord opened up a path through the water with a strong east wind. The wind blew all that night, turning the seabed into dry land.
22 So the people of Israel walked through the middle of the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on each side!

It was the Lord who parted the Red Sea, the wind dried up the muddy bottom of the sea, so that the people of Israel could walk over on “dry ground.”

And lest one think that there was not much water there, think on this.
Verse 22 plainly states that there was a “wall of water,” on the right hand and on the left.

Exodus 14:29 NLT
But the people of Israel had walked through the middle of the sea on dry ground, as the water stood up like a wall on both sides.

Secondly, it was no mere creek that drowned all of Pharaoh's army!

Exodus 14:26-28 NLT
26 When all the Israelites had reached the other side, the Lord said to Moses, “Raise your hand over the sea again. Then the waters will rush back and cover the Egyptians and their chariots and charioteers.”
27 So as the sun began to rise, Moses raised his hand over the sea, and the water rushed back into its usual place. The Egyptians tried to escape, but the Lord swept them into the sea.
28 Then the waters returned and covered all the chariots and charioteers—the entire army of Pharaoh. Of all the Egyptians who had chased the Israelites into the sea, not a single one survived.

Psalm 136:1-26 KJV
1 O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good: for His mercy endureth for ever.
2 O give thanks unto the God of gods: for His mercy endureth for ever.
3 O give thanks to the Lord of lords: for His mercy endureth for ever.
4 To Him who alone doeth great wonders: for His mercy endureth for ever.
5 To Him that by wisdom made the heavens: for His mercy endureth for ever.
6 To Him that stretched out the earth above the waters: for His mercy endureth for ever.
7 To Him that made great lights: for His mercy endureth for ever:
8 The sun to rule by day: for His mercy endureth for ever:
9 The moon and stars to rule by night: for His mercy endureth for ever.
10 To Him that smote Egypt in their firstborn: for His mercy endureth for ever:
11 And brought out Israel from among them: for His mercy endureth for ever:
12 With a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm: for His mercy endureth for ever.
13 To Him which divided the Red sea into parts: for His mercy endureth for ever:
14 And made Israel to pass through the midst of it: for His mercy endureth for ever:
15 But overthrew Pharaoh and his host in the Red sea: for His mercy endureth for ever.
16 To Him which led His people through the wilderness: for His mercy endureth for ever.
17 To Him which smote great kings: for His mercy endureth for ever:
18 And slew famous kings: for His mercy endureth for ever:
19 Sihon king of the Amorites: for His mercy endureth for ever:
20 And Og the king of Bashan: for His mercy endureth for ever:
21 And gave their land for an heritage: for His mercy endureth for ever:
22 Even an heritage unto Israel His servant: for His mercy endureth for ever.
23 Who remembered us in our low estate: for His mercy endureth for ever:
24 And hath redeemed us from our enemies: for His mercy endureth for ever.
25 Who giveth food to all flesh: for His mercy endureth for ever.
26 O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for His mercy endureth for ever.

Dear friend, do you know this great living God?
He knows you, and loves you!
He sent His Love Gift (His spotless, Sacrificial Lamb)the Lord Jesus, into our world to take the punishment (for our sins), that we deserve.
And because He did, those who accept His free gift, are cleansed, forgiven and have their names written in the Lambs book of life in heaven.

John 3:12-18 KJV (Jesus)
12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but He that came down from heaven, even the Son of Man which is in heaven.
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up:
15 That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only Begotten Son of God.

Romans 5:8,9 KJV
8 But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.

II Corinthians 5:21 KJV
For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

I John 5:4,5 KJV
4 For whatsoever is born of God over cometh the world: and this is the victory that over cometh the world, even our faith.
5 Who is he that over cometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
