Schoolmaster-The Law Was Our

Bible Questions Answered:
“...I do not see fully the law as schoolmaster.”
Razak/ Ar Riyad,  Saudi Arabia

Bible Answer:

Bible Text:
Galatians 3:23-26 NLT
23 Before the way of faith in Christ was available to us, we (the Jews) were placed under guard by the law. We were kept in protective custody, so to speak, until the way of faith was revealed.
24 Let me put it another way. The law was our guardian until Christ came; it protected us until we could be made right with God through faith.
25 And now that the way of faith has come, we no longer need the law as our guardian.
26 For you ( Jews and Gentiles) are all children (sons) of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:23-26 KJV
23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster* to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

*Schoolmaster-Greek-Paidagogos (Pahee-dag-o-gos): A boy leader, i.e. a servant whose office it was to take the children to school; a tutor, instructor, schoolmaster.

(Governor/Governess: A person who is employed to take charge of a child's upbringing, education, etc.)

In ancient times, a pedagogue, was a servant to whom a family committed the care and keeping of their children. It was their position to guard them from moral evils, while escorting them to school, and park.
the pedagogue could and did command obedience to what was righteous and right, with the strong possibility of punishment, if directions were "not," followed.
This way a young person would become trained to adulthood, hardly perfect and yet ready for life.

The Apostle, told the Galatians, that the law, was God's pedagogue (Schoolmaster), to bring them to Christ.
In other words, to take them (The Jews.)  from spiritual infancy to maturity.

The Old Testament child of God, had the "law," as his schoolmaster.
And a severe schoolmaster it was.

Old Testament believers, though they tried to follow all the laws, found that they could not.
It was a practice in futility, the law condemned them.

Believers of Old Testament times became eager for the mercy of God.

Genesis 49:18 KJV
I have waited for thy salvation, O Lord.

II Corinthians 3:7-11 NLT
7 The old way (Old Covenant), with laws etched in stone (Sinai), led to death, though it began with such glory that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses’ face. For his face shone with the glory of God, even though the brightness was already fading away.
8 Shouldn’t we expect far greater glory under the new way (New Covenant), now that the Holy Spirit is giving life?
9 If the old way, which brings condemnation, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new way, which makes us right with God!
10 In fact, that first glory was not glorious at all compared with the overwhelming glory of the new way.
11 So if the old way, which has been replaced, was glorious, how much more glorious is the new, which remains forever!

Under the Old Covenant, man tried to be righteous, by keeping the law, he tried, but he failed.
Under the New Covenant, mankind is justified by faith in the “finished work of Christ,” his Saviour.

Titus 3:5 KJV
Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Ephesians 2:8,9 KJV
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Romans 3:28 KJV
Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Romans 5:1 KJV
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Romans 6:14 NLT
Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.

Romans 7:1-4 NLT
1 Now, dear brothers and sisters—you who are familiar with the law—don’t you know that the law applies only while a person is living?
2 For example, when a woman marries, the law binds her to her husband as long as he is alive. But if he dies, the laws of marriage no longer apply to her.
3 So while her husband is alive, she would be committing adultery if she married another man. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law and does not commit adultery when she remarries.
4 So, my dear brothers and sisters, this is the point: You died to the power of the law when you died with Christ (The outward confession of which is baptism). And now you are united with the One who was raised from the dead. As a result, we can produce a harvest of good deeds for God.

Baptism, the act itself, does not save, but the Confession of what Baptism is a symbol of, does!

Galatians 3:27-
27 And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes.
28 There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are His heirs, and God’s promise to Abraham belongs to you.

Romans 10:8-13 KJV
8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

II Corinthians 5:21 KJV (God's Spotless Sacrificial Lamb, His Eternal Son, Jesus, the Christ.)
For He (God the Father) hath made Him (Christ His Son) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in (Through Christ Jesus) Him.

Romans 8:3 KJV
For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

Something the Old Covenant of trying to keep the Law, could never do, the Gift of God's Son, has done!

Colossians 2:9,10 KJV
9 For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
10 And ye are complete* in Him, which is the head of all principality and power:

Colossians 4:12 KJV
"... that ye may stand perfect and complete* in all the will of God.

*Complete-Greek-Pleroo (Play-ro-o): To make replete (Full, filled),...complete, fill up, be made full, perfect.

Jeremiah 23:6 KJV
In His days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is His name whereby He shall be called, The Lord Our Righteousness.

Jeremiah 51:10 KJV
The LORD hath brought forth our righteousness: come, and let us declare in Zion the work of the LORD our God.

I John 1:5-9 KJV
5 This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another,
and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
