Bible Lesson: Symbols Of The Church Of Jesus Christ.

Church Symbol: Star, speaks of epiphany.

Matthew 2:1-10 KJV
[1] Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
[2] Saying, Where is He that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen His star in the east, and are come to worship Him.
[3] When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
[4] And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
[5] And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
[6] And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
[7] Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
[8] And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young Child; and when ye have found Him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship Him also.
[9] When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was.
[10] When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

What was this mysterious star of Bethlehem?
Many and varied have been the suggestions, e.g.

* Bright Meteor
* Comet
* Super Nova
* Conjunction of certain planets, such as there was in Feb. 6 B.C., of Jupiter and Saturn.

Whatever it was, no one knows for sure.
Whatever it was, it was supernatural in its appearance.
Stars in the night sky, do not travel north to south as this star did, from Jerusalem to Bethlehem.

The prophecy of Balaam.

Numbers 24:17
I shall see Him, but not now: I shall behold Him, but not nigh: there shall come
a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.

Zechariah’s Prophecy.

Because of God’s tender mercy, the Morning Light (The DaySpring-KJV) from heaven is about to break upon us,

The Morning Star.

Revelation 22:16 KJV
I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches.
I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and Morning Star.

The Day Star.

II Peter 1:19 KJV
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the Day Star arise in your hearts:

Revelation 2:22-29 KJV
[25] But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.
[26] And he that overcometh, and keepeth My works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
[27] And He shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of My Father.
[28] And I will give him the Morning Star.
[29] He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
