Bible Lessons: Temperament

Temperament

James 1: 19,20 NLT
19 Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.
20 Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.

If your were asked what your temperament is, what would you say?
You might be surprised to realize that others, think it different, than what you do.

What is your temperament behind the wheel of a car?
When the kids are screaming at the top of their lungs?
When the boss says ten hours over time this week?
Etc..etc..etc..

Temperament and health”

Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients, Dec, 2005 by Robert A. Anderson

Temperament, an expression of innate biological endowment, provides a more global portrayal of an organism than an aggregate of separate characteristics alone.

Of 172 students,

Irritable-demanding-moody temperament types had the greatest 30-year risk of premature disease and mortality;

Spontaneous-outgoing-active types had the least risk with

Cautious-reserved-quiet-undemanding types scoring in the intermediate range (p<.01).

Proverbs 16:32 KJV He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.”

James 3:2-8,17,18 KJV
[2] “...If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
[3] Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.
[4] Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.
[5] Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
[6] And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
[7] For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
[8] But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
[17] But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
[18] And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

I Corinthians 13:4-7 NLT
4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud
5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.
6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.
7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Romans 6:9-12 NLT
9 We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and He will never die again. Death no longer has any power over Him.
10 When He died, He died once to break the power of sin. But now that He lives, He lives for the glory of God.
11 So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.
12 Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires.

II Peter 1:5-8 NLT
5 In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God's promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge,
6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness,
7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone.
8 The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be...”

When we confess our short-comings, and we pray and ask the Lord to help us....He will!

Isaiah 40:31 KJV But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength;...”

Philippians 1:9,10 NLT
9 I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding.
10 For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ's return.
