Bible Lesson: Parables Of The Old Testament: The Worthless Vine Tree.
Bible Lesson: Parables Of The Old
Testament: The Worthless Vine
Tree.
Spoken By: Ezekiel
Location: Babylon
Bible Text:
Ezekiel 15:1-8 NLT
1 Then this message came to me from
The Lord:
2 “Son of man, how does a
grapevine compare to a tree? Is a vine’s wood as useful as the wood
of a tree?
3 Can its wood be used for making
things, like pegs to hang up pots and pans?
4 No, it can only be used for fuel,
and even as fuel, it burns too quickly.
15:4 KJV
Behold, it is cast into the fire for
fuel; the fire devoureth both the ends of it, and the midst of
it is burned. Is it meet for any work?
5 Vines are useless both before and
after being put into the fire!
6 “And this is what The Sovereign
Lord says: The people of Jerusalem are like grapevines growing among
the trees of the forest. Since they are useless, I have thrown them
on the fire to be burned.
7 And I will see to it that if they
escape from one fire, they will fall into another. When I turn
against them, you will know that I am The Lord.
8 And I will make the land desolate
because My people have been unfaithful to Me. I, The Sovereign Lord,
have spoken!”
This parable is of
course a type of a Truth in reality. The Truth being that both Israel
and Judah, who bragged that they were a “special people, the people
of God,” but who in reality lived like the devil in revolt and open
idolatrous sin.
“Both ends of
it,” referring to Israel and to Judah. Were they fooling anyone,
were they fooling God, of course not.
Countries that call
yourself “Godly,” take warning!
Proverbs 15:3
KJV
The eyes of The Lord are in every
place, beholding the evil and the good.
Matthew 7:16-21 KJV
16 Ye shall
know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of
thistles?
17 Even so
every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree
bringeth forth evil fruit.
18 A good tree
cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth
good fruit.
19 Every tree
that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the
fire.
20 Wherefore by
their fruits ye shall know them.
21 Not every
one that saith unto Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of
heaven; but he that doeth the will of My Father which is in
heaven.
Galatians 6:7 KJV
Be not deceived; God is not mocked:
for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
Ezekiel 15:6-8 NTL
6 “And this is what The Sovereign
Lord says: The people of Jerusalem are like grapevines growing among
the trees of the forest. Since they are useless, I have thrown them
on the fire to be burned.
7 And I will see to it that if they
escape from one fire, they will fall into another. When I turn
against them, you will know that I am The Lord.
8 And I will make the land desolate
because My people have been unfaithful to Me. I, The Sovereign Lord,
have spoken!”
Calamities and judgment, await those
who forsake The Lord. Israel would eventually be carried away into
captivity by Assyria, Judah, into Babylon captivity.
I Chronicles 5:25,26 NLT (722
B.C.)
25 But these tribes were unfaithful
to the God of their ancestors. They worshiped the gods of the nations
that God had destroyed.
26 So The God Of Israel caused King
Pul of Assyria (also known as Tiglath-pileser) to invade the land and
take away the people of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh
as captives. The Assyrians exiled them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and the
Gozan River, where they remain to this day.
II Kings 24:15,16 (597 B.C.)
15 Nebuchadnezzar led King
Jehoiachin away as a captive to Babylon, along with the queen mother,
his wives and officials, and all Jerusalem’s elite.
16 He also exiled 7,000 of the best
troops and 1,000 craftsmen and artisans, all of whom were strong and
fit for war.
Luke 12:48,49
KJV]
48 "... For unto whomsoever
much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have
committed much, of him they will ask the more.
49 I am come to send fire on the
earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?
