Bible Answer:
Bible Text:
We must consider
the context of Luke 12:49 KJV.
Luke 12:1-12
(Hypocrisy condemned.)
12:13-21
(Christ's parable, “ The Rich Fool.”)
12:22-34
(Our Lord's teaching concerning earthly possessions.)
12:35-48
(The Lord's people must live ready for His coming.)
12:49-53
(Great Division)
12:54-59
(Romans 12:18 KJV If it be possible, as much as lieth in you,
live peaceably with all
men.)
Luke 12:49-53
KJV
49 I am come to send
fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already
kindled?
50 But I have a baptism to be
baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!
51 Suppose ye that I am come to give
peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
52 For from henceforth there shall
be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against
three.
53 The father shall be divided
against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against
the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law
against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her
mother in law.
Matthew 10:34-39
KJV
34 Think not that I am come to send
peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
35 For I am come to set a man at
variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and
the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36 And a man's foes shall be they of
his own household.
37 He that loveth father or mother
more than me is not worthy of Me: and he that loveth son or daughter
more than Me is not worthy of Me.
38 And he that taketh not his cross,
and followeth after Me, is not worthy of Me.
39 He that findeth his life shall
lose it: and he that loseth his life for My sake shall find it.
John the
Baptist, spoke of fire:
Luke 3:16,17 KJV
16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with
water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I
am not worthy to unloose: He shall baptize you with
The Holy Ghost
and with fire:
17 Whose fan is in His hand, and He will throughly purge His floor,
and will gather the wheat into His garner; but the chaff He will burn
with fire unquenchable.
This is a word picture of winnowing grain.
Before winnowing, comes threshing. Threshing is the separating of the
grain from the husks and straw.
Winnowing of grain (Wheat, barley), is the fine art of separating the
grain from the chaff.
This is accomplished by taking a pitchfork and tossing the grain into
the wind. The heavier grain falls to the ground whereas the lighter
chaff, blows away into an other area.
This spoken by The Savior, speaks of separation. The
precious grain, separated from the worthless chaff.
The grain, taken and stored in baskets., in the granary. The worthless chaff, was taken
and burnt in fire.
Psalm 1:4 KJV
The ungodly are
not so: but are like the chaff which the wind* driveth away.
*Wind-Hebrew: Ruwach (Roo-akh): Breath, blast, Spirit.
Matthew 3:11,12
MSG (John The Baptist)
“I’m
baptizing you here in the river, turning your old life in for a
kingdom life. The real action comes next: The main character in this
drama—compared to Him I’m a mere stagehand—will ignite the
kingdom life within you, a fire within you, The Holy Spirit
within you, changing you from the inside out. He’s
going to clean house—make a clean sweep of your lives. He’ll
place everything true in its proper place before God; everything
false He’ll put out with the trash to be burned.”
Godly Fire speaks of the separating power of God The Holy
Spirit.
Acts 2:1-4 KJV
1 And when the
day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one
place.
2 And suddenly
there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it
filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there
appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat
upon each of them.
4 And they
were all filled with The Holy Ghost..."
Revelation 4:5
NLT
From the throne came flashes of lightning and the rumble of thunder.
And in front of the throne were seven torches with burning flames.
This is the sevenfold Spirit of God.
Luke 12 Godly Fire (The presence of His Holy Spirit) speaks of
separation from the world.
I John 2:15-17
KJV
15 Love not the
world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the
world, the love of The Father is not in him.
16 For all that
is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and
the pride of life, is not of The Father, but is of the world.
17 And the
world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will
of God abideth for ever.
II Corinthians
6:14-18 KJV
14 Be ye not
unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath
righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light
with darkness?
15 And what
concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth
with an infidel?
16 And what
agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of
The Living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in
them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
17 Wherefore
come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith The Lord, and
touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
18 And will be
a Father unto you, and ye shall be My sons and daughters, saith The
Lord Almighty.
God's Holy Fire of separation is spreading through out the earth.
Luke 12:49-53
MSG
49-53 “I’ve
come to start a fire on this earth—how I wish it were
blazing right now! I’ve come to change everything, turn everything
rightside up—how I long for it to be finished! Do you think I came
to smooth things over and make everything nice? Not so. I’ve come
to disrupt and confront! From now on, when you find five in a house,
it will be—
Three against
two, and two against three;
Father against
son, and son against father;
Mother against
daughter, and daughter against mother;
Mother-in-law
against bride, and bride against mother-in-law.”
In many The Fire, has gone out, but in the lives of those who take up
their cross and are following The Lord Of Glory, the fiery presence
of God The Holy Spirit, glows from with in.
Matthew 5:14-16
KJV
14 Ye are The
Light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do
men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick;
and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your
Light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and
glorify your Father which is in heaven.
