Bible Lesson: Miracles Of Jesus; Withered Hand Healed

Bible Lesson: Miracles Of Jesus; Withered Hand Healed.

Location: Jerusalem

Text: Mark 3:1-7 KJV
1 And He entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand.
2 And they watched Him, whether He would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse Him.
3 And He saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth.
4 And He saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.
5 And when He had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, He saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
6 And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him.
7 But Jesus withdrew Himself with His disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed Him, and from Judaea,

Matthew 12:9-15 KJV
9 And when He was departed thence, He went into their synagogue:
10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked Him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse Him.
11 And He said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.
13 Then saith He to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.
14 Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against Him, how they might destroy Him.
15 But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew Himself from thence: and great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all;

Luke 6:6-11 KJV
6 And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that He entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.
7 And the scribes and Pharisees watched Him, whether He would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against Him.
8 But He knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.
9 Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?
10 And looking round about upon them all, He said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
11 And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.

Luke 6:6 KJV
And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that He entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.

Let it be remembered, and never forgotten, that the custom of our Lord, where ever He was...was to be in the synagogue.

Luke 4:16 KJV
And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up: and, as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

He went to bring glory to the Father. He went to bring the truth. He went to deliver those that were bound. He went in obedience to His Father.

Hebrews 10:25 KJV
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Hebrews 10:25 NLT
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.

There are some today, who bemoan church going because of all the “hypocrites,” in the church.
Looking for that perfect church, one day, that they don't seem to be able to find, and so, stay home.

How antithetical to the thoughts and actions of our Lord! For there in the synagogue, were the Scribes and Pharisees, who hated Him, and wished Him dead, waiting for Him.
It is even believed by some, that these sinister blind leaders of the blind, had themselves orchestrated the appearance of the man with the withered hand, to trap Him.

If this was true of Jesus, and it most certainly was, how we too, must turn our view away from what is wrong, to what is glorious and good, and support our church, with our presence and our gifts in our worship to the living God!

Mark 3:2-4 KJV
2 And they watched Him, whether He would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse Him.
3 And He saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth.
4 And He saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

The Scribes and the Pharisees, would not, could not answer the Lord.

Romans 1:21,22 KJV
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

Ephesians 2:1 KJV
"...dead in trespasses and sins;"

Ephesians 4;18,19 KJV
18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

Mark 6:5,6 KJV
5 And He could there do no mighty work, save that He laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.
6 And He marvelled because of their unbelief..."

Mark 3:5 KJV
And when He had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, He saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

Christ at one time addressed the Scribes and Pharisees.....

Matthew 23:1-39 KJV
1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to His disciples,
2 Saying The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:
3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.
4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men:
for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer:
therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.
15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
16 Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!
17 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?
18 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.
19 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?
20 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.
21 And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.
22 And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by Him that sitteth thereon.
23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have
omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter,
but within they are full of extortion and excess.
26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchers of the righteous,
30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify;
and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of
Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee,
how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see Me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Hebrews 10:31 KJV
It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Psalm 7:11 KJV
God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.

The man with the withered hand was healed.

Exodus 15:26 KJV
And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in His sight, and wilt give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians:
for I am the Lord that healeth thee.

Deuteronomy 7:15 KJV
And the Lord will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee; but will lay them upon all them that hate thee.

Isaiah 53:5 KJV
But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.

Jeremiah 30:17 KJV
"For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord..."

Luke 4:18 KJV
The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

The Lord's servants and prayer for the sick:

Matthew 10:1 KJV
And when He had called unto Him His twelve disciples, He gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

Mark 3:15 KJV
14 And He ordained twelve, that they should be with Him, and that He might send them forth to preach,
15 And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils:

Mark 16:17,18 KJV
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In My name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 ...they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Mark 3:6-7 KJV
6 And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him.
7 But Jesus withdrew Himself with His disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed Him, and from Judaea,

The Scribes and Pharisees, left the synagogue.
In their ultra orthodox theology, Christ had broken the sabbath by His miracle.
They were infuriated, that fame came to Jesus for His works.
They were angry, that they could not answer Christ's simple question “Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? (Mark 3:4)

They soon made friends, with a group that usually were their opponents.
Herodians, who believed in the Messianic calling of Herod and his family.

If they could only influence the Herodians, that Jesus, with all His popularity, could announce Himself as a Messiah, then they both, together, would seek His demise.

One cannot help but think of Judas and his alliance with the Chief Priests.

How simple this story, we are on one of two sides, for or against.
We are either those of the household of faith, praying, giving, serving, in the house of the Lord, or we are antagonists, fighting the work of the Lord, the messenger of the Lord, His people, and His work.

God sees all, and keeps perfect records, and one day soon those records will be read.

Revelation 20:11-13 KJV
11 And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

Joshua 24:15 KJV
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve;
whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
