Bible Mountain-Mount Hermon-Transfiguration

Bible Mountain:

Mount Hermon (Mount of the Transfiguration).

Text: Matthew 17:1-8 KJV
1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
2 And was transfigured before them: and His face did shine as the sun, and His raiment was white as the light.
3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with Him.
4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is My Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye Him.
6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.
7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.

The disciple, Peter, testified …

II Peter 1:16-18 KJV
16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.
17 For He received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to Him from the excellent glory, This is My Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with Him in the holy mount.

This voice of the Father was first heard at Christ's baptism...

Matthew 3:16,17 KJV
16 And Jesus, when He was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a Dove, and lighting upon Him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is My Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Did you happen to notice the picture of the Trinity in these verses?
The Spirit of God, descended like a Dove
“And lo voice from heaven, saying, This is My Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
The voice of the Father.
Christ, when He was baptized.

The question has been asked, will we one day, know our loved ones in heaven?
For that fact, will we know the others there?
Answer: Yes!

Notice that the disciples did not have to ask who the two men were because they knew!
One was Moses, who had received the ten commandments, and the other was the Prophet Elijah.

Is there such a thing as the soul, and does it survive death?
Thee answer is yes! Here were Moses and Elijah. Moses had died some 1,450 some years before (Deuteronomy 34:5,6)!

Elijah had been taken up to heaven in a fiery chariot some 896 years before (II Kings 2:11), never having seen death.

Oh, how man has the natural inclination to work his way, to favor with God!

Matthew 17:3,4 KJV
3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with Him.
4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.

But the Word of the Lord, reminds us...
Ephesians 2:8,9 KJV
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works (Including religious works!), lest any man should boast.

Titus 3:5-7 KJV
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
6 Which He shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
7 That being justified by His grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

The voice of the Father in heaven:
Matthew 17:5,6 KJV
5 While he (Peter) yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is My Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye Him.
6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.

Only the “hand of God,” can resurrect us from “dead works!”
Matthew 17:7 KJV
And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.

Peter, James, and John were Christ's inner circle, His closest friends.
To theses three, were given the opportunity to see the glory, Christ had with the Father, before He came into the world.

Moses had given the law/ Elijah had prophesied, given testimony concerning the law.

Revelation 19:10 KJV
“...worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. “

Isaiah 8:20 KJV
To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

John 1:17 KJV
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

All the conditions that would need to be met, for mankind's redemption would be met in Jesus Christ.
He became both High Priest, and Sacrificial Lamb.

Hebrews 7:26 KJV
For such an High Priest became us, who is Holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;

Hebrews 8:1 KJV
Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an High Priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;

John 1:29 KJV
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

I Peter 1:18-20 KJV
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a Lamb without blemish and without spot:
20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

II Corinthians 5:21 KJV
For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

II Corinthians 5:21 NLT
For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

Do you know this precious Saviour, Lamb of the Father?

John 6:40 KJV
And this is the will of Him that sent Me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
