Symbols Of Biblical Characters: Andrew

Symbols Of Biblical Characters:
Church Symbol: The Symbol of a X, know as St. Andrews Cross, Saltire.

Symbol of Andrew; (Greek: Andreas- An-dreh-as), manly.

Andrew (son of Jonas, Jonah or John, a fisherman.) had been a follower of John the Baptist, and became the first of the Apostles called by Jesus Christ, …

John 1:40-44 KJV (Matthew 10:2/ Mark 3:18/ Luke 6:14/ Acts 1:13)
[40] One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
[41] He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
[42] And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
[43] The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.
[44] Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.

Andrew was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and like Peter, James and John a Galilean fisherman.

Matthew 4:18-22 KJV
[18] And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
[19] And He saith unto them, Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.
[20] And they straightway left their nets, and followed Him.
[21] And going on from thence, He saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and He called them.
[22] And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed Him.

John 1:42, and 12:21, give one the idea that Andrew was as missionary at home and away.

John 1:40-42 KJV (Andrew the “soul winner.”)
[40] One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
[41] He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
[42] And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone

John 12:20-21 KJV (Andrew and Philip often linked together.)
[20] And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:
[21] The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
[22] Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.

According to tradition, Andrew ministered in Macedonia (north of Greece; Scythia, southern parts of Russia, and Ukraine – so says Eusebius), and was crucified at Achaia (Macedonia), on an X shaped cross, known as St. Andrew's cross.
