Symbols Of Biblical Characters: Bartholomew

Symbols Of Biblical Characters:
Church Symbol: A flaying knife: Bartholomew.

Bartholomew (Greek: Son of Tolmai): was one of the twelve apostles.

Matthew 10:2-4 KJV (Mark 3:18/ Luke 6:14/Acts 1:13)
[2] Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother;
[3] Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus;
[4] Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him.

Because Bartholomew is often associated with Philip, he is some times thought to be Nathanael. (John 1:45)
Tradition says that Bartholomew preached the gospel of the Lord Jesus in Armenia, and India.
Tradition also says that Bartholomew was flayed alive in Armenia, and then crucified head downward.

Revelation 2:10 KJV
Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.
