Bible Questions Answered: Messiah-The Promised

Bible Questions Answered:
How can we know for sure Christ is the promised Messiah?
Keshet/ Jala, West Bank/ Israel

Bible Answers:
Law of first reference:
Genesis 3:15 NLT
And I will cause hostility between you (the serpent-the devil) and the woman, and between your offspring (Satan's children) and her offspring (The seed, or offspring come from the father's side only. But in the case of Christ's birth, He was born of a Virgin-Mary, Conceived by the Holy Spirit, a miraculous birth-the seed of a woman.) . He will strike your head (Christ will strike the head of the serpent, Satan), and you (the serpent) will strike His heel(Christs death on the cross.)”

The above verse was fulfilled two thousand years ago at Mount Calvary.

References to Christ, is numerous in the book of Psalms.
Known as the “Messianic Psalms,” they depict the life, suffering and death of the Lord Jesus.
Here is but one example found in …

Psalm 22:1-31 KJV

A Prophetic Psalm describing the suffering of crucifixion, with thoughts of a Son to his Father.

[1] My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me? why art Thou so far from helping Me, and from the words of My roaring?
[2] O My God, I cry in the daytime, but Thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.
[3] But Thou art holy, O Thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
[4] Our fathers trusted in Thee: they trusted, and Thou didst deliver them.
[5] They cried unto Thee, and were delivered: they trusted in Thee, and were not confounded.
[6] But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.
[7] All they that see Me laugh Me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head saying,
[8] He trusted on the LORD that He would deliver Him: let Him deliver Him, seeing He delighted in Him.
[9] But thou art He that took Me out of the womb: thou didst make Me hope when I was upon My mother's breasts.
[10] I was cast upon Thee from the womb: Thou art My God from My mother's belly.
[11] Be not far from Me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.
[12] Many bulls have compassed Me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset Me round.
[13] They gaped upon Me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.
[14] I am poured out like water, and all My bones are out of joint: My heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of My bowels.
[15] My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and My tongue cleaveth to My jaws; and thou hast brought Me into the dust of death.
[16] For dogs have compassed Me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed Me: they pierced My hands and My feet.
[17] I may tell all My bones: they look and stare upon Me.
[18] They part My garments among them, and cast lots upon My vesture.
[19] But be not thou far from Me, O LORD: O My strength, haste thee to help Me.
[20] Deliver My soul from the sword; My darling from the power of the dog.
[21] Save Me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard Me from the horns of the unicorns.
[22] I will declare Thy name unto My brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise Thee.
[23] Ye that fear the LORD, praise Him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify Him; and fear Him, all ye the seed of Israel.
[24] For He hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath He hid His face from Him; but when He cried unto Him, He heard.
[25] My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay My vows before them that fear Him.
[26] The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek Him: your heart shall live for ever.
[27] All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before Thee.
[28] For the kingdom is the LORD's: and He is the governor among the nations.
[29] All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before Him: and none can keep alive His own soul.
[30] A seed shall serve Him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.
[31] They shall come, and shall declare His righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that He hath done this.

Who, if not Christ was this suffering/ slain Messiah, prophesied by Isaiah?

Isaiah 53:1-12 KJV
[1] Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
[2] For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: He hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.
[3] He is despised and rejected of men; a Man of Sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from Him; He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.
[4] Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
[5] But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed.
[6] All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
[7] He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth: He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He openeth not His mouth.
[8] He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare His generation? for He was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was He stricken.
[9] And He made His grave with the wicked, and with the rich in His death; because He had done no violence, neither was any deceit in His mouth.
[10] Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He hath put Him to grief: when thou shalt make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand.
[11] He shall see of the travail of His soul, and shall be satisfied: by His knowledge shall My Righteous Servant justify many; for He shall bear their iniquities.
[12] Therefore will I divide Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong; because He hath poured out His soul unto death: and He was numbered with the transgressors; and He bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Isaiah 53:1-12 AMP
1 Who has believed (trusted in, relied upon, and clung to) our message [of that which was revealed to us]? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been disclosed?
2 For [the Servant of God] grew up before Him like a tender plant, and like a root out of dry ground; He has no form or comeliness [royal, kingly pomp], that we should look at Him, and no beauty that we should desire Him.
3 He was despised and rejected and forsaken by men, a Man of sorrows and pains, and acquainted with grief and sickness; and like One from Whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we did not appreciate His worth or have any esteem for Him.
4 Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy].
5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray, we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord has made to light upon Him the guilt and iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, [yet when] He was afflicted, He was submissive and opened not His mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He opened not His mouth.
8 By oppression and judgment He was taken away; and as for His generation, who among them considered that He was cut off out of the land of the living [stricken to His death] for the transgression of my [Isaiah's] people, to whom the stroke was due?
9 And they assigned Him a grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in His death, although He had done no violence, neither was any deceit in His mouth.
10 Yet it was the will of the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief and made Him sick. When You and He make His life an offering for sin [and He has risen from the dead, in time to come], He shall see His [spiritual] offspring, He shall prolong His days, and the will and pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.
11 He shall see [the fruit] of the travail of His soul and be satisfied; by His knowledge of Himself [which He possesses and imparts to others] shall My [uncompromisingly] righteous One, My Servant, justify many and make many righteous (upright and in right standing with God), for He shall bear their iniquities and their guilt [with the consequences, says the Lord].
12 Therefore will I divide Him a portion with the great [kings and rulers], and He shall divide the spoil with the mighty, because He poured out His life unto death, and [He let Himself] be regarded as a criminal and be numbered with the transgressors; yet He bore [and took away] the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors (the rebellious).

What Everlasting Ruler had come from Bethlehem? Christ!

Micah 5:2 NLT
But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel will come from you, one whose origins are from the distant past.

Daniel was told that a period of time would elapse before the promised Messiah would come.
From the time the command was given to restore and to build Jerusalem, until the promised Messiah there would be some 69 weeks.

Daniel 9:25,26 NLT
25 Now listen and understand! Seven sets of seven plus sixty-two sets of seven will pass from the time the command is given to rebuild Jerusalem until
a rulerthe Anointed One—comes. Jerusalem will be rebuilt with streets and strong defenses, despite the perilous times.

26 “After this period of sixty-two sets of seven, the Anointed One will be killed, appearing to have accomplished nothing, and a ruler will arise whose armies will destroy the city and the Temple. The end will come with a flood, and war and its miseries are decreed from that time to the very end. (Roman Emperor Titus-70 A.D.)

Ezra 1:1-4 NLT
1 In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia (538 B.C.), the Lord fulfilled the prophecy He had given through Jeremiah (Jeremiah 25:11,12/ 29:10). He stirred the heart of Cyrus to put this proclamation in writing and to send it throughout his kingdom:
2 “This is what King Cyrus of Persia says: “The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth. He has appointed me to build Him a Temple at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.
3 Any of you who are His people may go to Jerusalem in Judah to rebuild this Temple of the Lord, the God of Israel, who lives in Jerusalem. And may your God be with you!
4 Wherever this Jewish remnant is found, let their neighbors contribute toward their expenses by giving them silver and gold, supplies for the journey, and livestock, as well as a voluntary offering for the Temple of God in Jerusalem.”

Prophesied by Isaiah:
Isaiah 44:28 NLT
When I say of Cyrus, ‘He is my shepherd,’ he will certainly do as I say. He will command, ‘Rebuild Jerusalem’; he will say, ‘Restore the Temple.’”

Daniels prophecy of 69 weeks are weeks of years, not days.
In the Word of God, some times a period of seven years were referred to as a week, e.g.
Genesis 29:27 NLT (Laban negotiating with Jacob.)
26 “It’s not our custom here to marry off a younger daughter ahead of the firstborn,” Laban replied.
27 “But wait until the bridal week is over, then we’ll give you Rachel, too—provided you promise to work another seven years for me.”

And so we see that sixty nine weeks would equal, four hundred and eighty three years.
That is four hundred and eighty three years after the commandment to rebuild the temple went out, that the Messiah would appear.

That Messiah did appear, and He was our blessed Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God.

As Isaiah had prophesied, the Messiah had not come to set up an earthly kingdom (Which left many confused. Acts 1:6-7), but to give His life a ransom for many.

Do you know this precious Saviour, who died for you?
