Bible Questions Answered: Animal Sacrifice

Bible Questions Answered:
Why don't people kill animals today as in old Bible days?
Johnathan/ Rockford, Illinois

Bible Answers:
Genesis 3:1-21 KJV
[1] Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
[2] And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
[3] But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
[4] And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
[5] For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
[6] And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
[7] And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
[8] And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
[9] And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
[10] And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
[11] And He said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
[12] And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
[13] And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
[14] And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

[15] And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Genesis 3:15 NLT
And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He (Seed of the woman, Christ) will strike your head (Satan), and you (Satan) will strike His heel (Christ).

(A prophetic promise of a coming Saviour, the seed of the woman (Mary). Satan would strike Him (Christ at Calvary), yet the risen triumphant Son of God, will cast him (Satan) into the eternal lake of fire.)

[16] Unto the woman He said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
[17] And unto Adam He said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
[18] Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
[19] In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
[20] And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
[21] Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

Who killed the first animal?
God.
God, shed the first blood, so that sinful Adam and Eve might have a covering (animal skins) for their nakedness, and blood (a type of Christ's) covering for their souls.

Leviticus 17:11 NLT
For the life of the body is in its blood. I have given you the blood on the altar to purify you, making you right with the Lord. It is the blood, given in exchange for a life, that makes purification possible.

Hebrews 9:22 KJV
And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

Why was Abel's offering accepted, and Cains refused?
Genesis 4:2 KJV
And she (Eve) again bare his (Cain's) brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

Genesis 4:4-7 KJV
[4] And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock (sheep) and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
[5] But unto Cain and to his offering (vegetables. of the field) he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
[6] And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
[7] If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door..."

Cain and Able, both knew of the “First-Sacrifice,” of the garden, their parents had told them.
It had taken a bloody sacrifice to cover their sins, and a bloody sacrifice is what was to be perpetuated (until the time of Christ).

In Old Testament times, animal sacrifice never took away the sins of the people, in this ritual obedience, it only covered their sins.

Romans 4:3-8 NASB The Apostle Paul.
3. For what does the Scripture say ? "ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS."
4. Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due.
5. But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness,
6. just as David also speaks of the blessing on the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works :
7. "BLESSED ARE THOSE WHOSE LAWLESS DEEDS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN, AND WHOSE SINS HAVE BEEN COVERED.
8."BLESSED IS THE MAN WHOSE SIN THE LORD WILL NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT."

Genesis 3:15 prophetically pointed to the day, when the seed of a woman, would strike the head of the serpent.

Having been born and raised in the state of California, we knew what it was to be among rattlers. One day my dad, mom, my sister and I went off into the woods for a picnic.
After we had been there for some time, my dad announced to us, “don't anyone move,” and having looked around, we all knew why.
A rattle snake had come up to us, and was ready to strike at anyone.
My dad, a veteran, was fearless, taking one mighty leap through the air, his foot came down with terrific force on the head of the snake.
Though it's body lay there writhing, it was for all practical means, dead, for that is how you kill a snake, by smashing his head.

And that is exactly what God prophesied of His Son the Lord Jesus, the seed of the woman (Mary). He would forever strike the head of the serpent, Satan.
Calvary was not Christ's everlasting tomb, but His everlasting triumphant!

The sacrifice at Calvary, by God's Lamb, was a perfect sacrifice, one that takes away sin, and buries it in the depths of the sea, one that cleanses from sin.

John 1:29 KJV
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Micah 7:8,9 KJV
[18] Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He retaineth not His anger for ever, because He delighteth in mercy.
[19] He will turn again, He will have compassion upon us; He will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

Psalms 103:11-13 KJV
[11] For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward them that fear Him.
[12] As far as the east is from the west, so far hath He removed our transgressions from us.
[13] Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear Him.

Hebrews 10:1-23 KJV
[1] For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
[2] For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
[3] But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
[4] For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

[5] Wherefore when He cometh into the world, He saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared Me:
[6] In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

[7] Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of Me,) to do thy will, O God.
[8] Above when He said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;

[9] Then said He, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that He may establish the second.

[10] By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ
once for all.
(Christ's body sacrificed-how many times? ONCE!)

[11] And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

[12] But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; (One Sacrifice, Once for all!)

[13] From henceforth expecting till His enemies be made His footstool.

[14] For by one offering He hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. (One Sacrifice- Once for all!)

[15] Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that He had said before,

[16] This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
[17] And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
[18] Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
[19] Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the Blood of Jesus,
[20] By a new and living way, which He hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, His Flesh;
[21] And having an High Priest over the house of God; (The Christian's High Priest, is the risen, Lord Jesus Christ, who sits at the right hand of God the Father.)

[22] Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

[23] Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for He is faithful that promised;)
