Bible Questions Answered: Marks Of The Lord Jesus

Bible Questions:
What marks, is Paul talking about in Galatians 6:17?
George/ Athens, Georgia

Bible Answers:
Galatians 6:17 KJV
From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.

Marks: Greek; Stigma, a mark for recognition of ownership. Scar of Service.
Slave owners, often, branded, or marked their slaves, as a sign of ownership.

Legalists had crept into the church. They proclaimed contrary to the Apostles gospel message, that man could not be saved apart from the law.
And they gloried in the fact of their circumcision. A mark that they were indeed, law keeping, children of God.

The Apostle used that idea to state that the marks on his body, were a sign of his belonging to the risen Lord Jesus, whose gospel of saved by grace through faith, he boldly proclaimed. And because he did, often suffered at the hands of his legal antagonists.

II Corinthians 11:23-27 KJV
[23] ...I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.
[24] Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.
[25] Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;
[26] In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;
[27] In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.
[28] Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.

Ephesians 2:8,9 KJV
[8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
[9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Sinful man, strives to gain his salvation through his works, rather that bow at the feet of the Lord Jesus, confessing their sin, and taking Him as Lord (Master) of their lives.

The Apostle Paul told young Timothy...
II Timothy 3:12 KJV
Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

I Peter 3:14 KJV
But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;

Proverbs 27:6 KJV
Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

Dear friend, will you one day have some wounds to show the Lord Jesus?
Wounds you suffered, because you took a stand for the Lord Jesus Christ, and the truth of the gospel?

Revelation 22:11,12 KJV
[11] He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still:
and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
[12] And, behold, I come quickly; and My reward is with Me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
