Bible Lesson: Symbols Of The Church Of Jesus Christ.

Church Symbol: IHS-(Iesous-ee-ay-sooce') These letters represent the first three letters in the Greek name for Jesus. (We apologize, this blog, will not let us use Greek or Hebrew Letters.)

God the Father, referred to Christ as His Son.

Matthew 3:17 KJV
And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Matthew 17:5 NAS
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, "This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased ; listen to Him!"

Luke 3:21,22 NAS
21.Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized, and while He was praying, heaven was opened,
22.and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came out of heaven, "You are My beloved Son, in You I am well-pleased."

Hebrews 1:6 KJV
And again, when He bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, He saith, And let all the angels of God worship Him. (God the Father, Called His Eternal Son, the Firstbegotten- - BEFORE, He came into the world!)

Jesus refered to God as His Father.

John 5:17,18 KJV
[17] But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
[18] Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill Him, because He not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.

Disciples:

Matthew 16:13-16 NAS
13.Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"
14.And they said, "Some say John the Baptist ; and others, Elijah ; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets."
15.He said to them, "But who do you say that I am ?"
16.Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Jesus said of Himself.

John 10:36 NAS
36.do you say of Him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God '?
37."If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me;


Came from God.

John 13:3 NAS
Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come forth from God and was going back to God,

Equal to the Father.

John 5:18 NAS
For this reason therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.

One with the Father.

John 10:30,33 NAS
30."I and the Father are one."
33.The Jews answered Him, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy ; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God."

Our High Priest.

Hebrews 2:17,18 NLT
17 Therefore, it was necessary for Him to be made in every respect like us, His brothers and sisters, so that He could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then He could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people.
18 Since He Himself has gone through suffering and testing, He is able to help us when we are being tested.

Salvation, and Resurrection through Christ.

I Corinthians 15:20-23 NLT
20...Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died.
21 So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another Man.
22 Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life.
23 But there is an order to this resurrection: Christ was raised as the first of the harvest; then all who belong to Christ will be raised when He comes back.

Who was Jesus?

Prophets:

For a child will be born (Jesus)to us,
a Son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on His shoulders ;
And His name will be called
Wonderful
Counselor,
Mighty God,
Eternal Father,(without beginning, or end-Eternal)
Prince of Peace.

Micah 5:2 KJV
But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall He come forth unto Me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. (Eternal)
