Rebellion

Bible Questions Answered:
“...what is the sin of this age?”
Corey/ Hampstead, New Hampshire

Bible Answer: The sin of rebellion.
Bible Text:
Psalm 106:43 NLT
Again and again He rescued them, but they chose to rebel against Him, and they were finally destroyed by their sin.

Proverbs 14:34 KJV
Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

Rebellion:
An act or a show of defiance toward an authority or established convention.
Organized resistance to a constituted government.
(TheFreeDictionary.com)

Insurrection, revolt, uprising, defiance, apostasy, disobedience, insubordination, and schism.
Are we talking about, a military coup d'e-tat? No, we are talking about the people of God!

Rebellion falls into two categories today. One, Christ rejectors, who will not, bend a knee to Jesus Christ, King of Kings and Lord of Lords, The one and only Savior Of The World.

And secondly, Christian people, who have a “pick and choose,” religious style. “Yes the Bible says this or that, but give me a break, everyone's doing it!”

The Word Of God, calls it Rebellion!

Numbers 14:18 NLT
The Lord is slow to anger and filled with unfailing love, forgiving every kind of sin and rebellion. But He does not excuse the guilty..."

Joshua 22:29 KJV
God forbid that we should rebel against The Lord, and turn this day from following The Lord..."

I Samuel 12:14,15 KJV
14 If ye will fear The Lord, and serve Him, and obey His voice, and not rebel against the commandment of The Lord, then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following The Lord your God:
15 But if ye will not obey the voice of The Lord, but rebel against the commandment of The Lord, then shall the hand of The Lord be against you, as it was against your fathers.

I Samuel 15:23 KJV
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected The Word Of The Lord, He hath also rejected thee from being king.

Job 24:13 KJV
They are of those that rebel against The Light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof.

Psalm 5:9-12 KJV
9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.
10 Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.
11 But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.
12 For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favor wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

Psalm 78:7,8 NLT
7 So each generation should set its hope anew on God, not forgetting His glorious miracles and obeying His commands.
8 Then they will not be like their ancestors— stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful, refusing to give their hearts to God.

Psalm 107:1-43 KJV (Israel)
1 O give thanks unto The Lord, for He is good: for His mercy endureth for ever.
2 Let the redeemed of The Lord say so, whom He hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;
3 And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.
4 They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.
5 Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
6 Then they cried unto The Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses.
7 And He led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.
8 Oh that men would praise The Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!
9 For He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
10 Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;
11 Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of The Most High:
12 Therefore He brought down their heart with labor; they fell down, and there was none to help.
13 Then they cried unto The Lord in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses.
14 He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.
15 Oh that men would praise The Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!
16 For He hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.
17 Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.
18 Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.
19 Then they cry unto The Lord in their trouble, and He saveth them out of their distresses.
20 He sent His word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.
21 Oh that men would praise The Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!
22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare His works with rejoicing.
23 They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;
24 These see the works of The Lord, and His wonders in the deep.
25 For He commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.
26 They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.
27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit's end.
28 Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
30 Then are they glad because they be quiet; so He bringeth them unto their desired haven.
31 Oh that men would praise The Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!
32 Let them exalt Him also in the congregation of the people, and praise Him in the assembly of the elders.
33 He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;
34 A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.
35 He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.
36 And there He maketh the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city for habitation;
37 And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.
38 He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.
39 Again, they are minished (decreased in number) and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.
40 He poureth contempt upon princes, and causeth them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no way.
41 Yet setteth He the poor on high from affliction, and maketh Him families like a flock.
42 The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.
43 Whoso is wise, and will observe these things, even they shall understand the loving kindness of
The Lord.

Proverbs 17:11 NLT (King Solomon)
Evil people are eager for rebellion, but they will be severely punished.

Proverbs 24:21,22 NLT (King Solomon)
21 My child, fear The Lord and The king. Don’t associate with rebels,
22 for disaster will hit them suddenly. Who knows what punishment will come from The Lord and the king?

Isaiah 1:1-31 KJV (Israel)
1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for The Lord hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against Me.
3 The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master's crib: but Israel doth not know, My people doth not consider.
4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken The Lord, they have provoked The Holy One Of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.
5 Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.
6 From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.
7 Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.
8 And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.
9 Except The Lord Of Hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.
10 Hear The Word Of The Lord, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.
11 To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto Me? saith The Lord: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.
12 When ye come to appear before Me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread My courts?
13 Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto Me; the new moons and Sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.
14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts My soul hateth: they are a trouble unto Me; I am weary to bear them.
15 And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide Mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.
16 Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before Mine eyes; cease to do evil;

17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith The Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
19 If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of The Lord hath spoken it.
21 How is the faithful city become an harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers.
22 Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water:
23 Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.
24 Therefore saith The Lord, The Lord Of Hosts, The Mighty One Of Israel, Ah, I will ease Me of Mine adversaries, and avenge Me of Mine enemies:
25 And I will turn My hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin (impurities-NLT):
26 And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counselors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city.
27 Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness.
28 And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together, and they that forsake The Lord shall be consumed.
29 For they shall be ashamed of the oaks which ye have desired, and ye shall be confounded for the gardens that ye have chosen.
30 For ye shall be as an oak whose leaf fadeth, and as a garden that hath no water.
31 And the strong shall be as tow, and the maker of it as a spark, and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them.

Isaiah 30:8-17 NLT (Israel)
8 Now go and write down these words. Write them in a book. They will stand until the end of time as a witness
9 that these people are stubborn rebels who refuse to pay attention to The Lord’s instructions.
10 They tell the seers, “Stop seeing visions!” They tell the prophets, “Don’t tell us what is right. Tell us nice things. Tell us lies.
11 Forget all this gloom. Get off your narrow path. Stop telling us about your ‘Holy One Of Israel.’”
12 This is the reply of The Holy One Of Israel: “Because you despise what I tell you and trust instead in oppression and lies,
13 calamity will come upon you suddenly— like a bulging wall that bursts and falls. In an instant it will collapse and come crashing down.
14 You will be smashed like a piece of pottery— shattered so completely that there won’t be a piece big enough to carry coals from a fireplace or a little water from the well.”
15 This is what The Sovereign Lord, The Holy One Of Israel, says: “Only in returning to Me and resting in Me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it.
16 You said, ‘No, we will get our help from Egypt. They will give us swift horses for riding into battle.’But the only swiftness you are going to see is the swiftness of your enemies chasing you!
17 One of them will chase a thousand of you. Five of them will make all of you flee. You will be left like a lonely flagpole on a hill or a tattered banner on a distant mountaintop.”

Isaiah 63:10 KJV (Israel)
But they rebelled, and vexed His Holy Spirit: therefore He was turned to be their enemy, and He fought against them.

Daniel 9:4-19 NLT (Daniel confesses his sins and the sins of his people.)
4 I prayed to The Lord my God and confessed: “O Lord, you are a great and awesome God! You always fulfill your covenant and keep your promises of unfailing love to those who love you and obey your commands.
5 But we have sinned and done wrong. We have rebelled against you and scorned your commands and regulations.
6 We have refused to listen to your servants the prophets, who spoke on your authority to our kings and princes and ancestors and to all the people of the land.
7 “Lord, you are in the right; but as you see, our faces are covered with shame. This is true of all of us, including the people of Judah and Jerusalem and all Israel, scattered near and far, wherever you have driven us because of our disloyalty to you.
8 O Lord, we and our kings, princes, and ancestors are covered with shame because we have sinned against you.
9 But The Lord Our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against Him.
10 We have not obeyed The Lord Our God, for we have not followed the instructions He gave us through His servants the prophets.
11 All Israel has disobeyed your instruction and turned away, refusing to listen to your voice. “So now the solemn curses and judgments written in the Law of Moses, the servant of God, have been poured down on us because of our sin.
12 You have kept your word and done to us and our rulers exactly as you warned. Never has there been such a disaster as happened in Jerusalem.
13 Every curse written against us in the Law of Moses has come true. Yet we have refused to seek mercy from The Lord our God by turning from our sins and recognizing His Truth.
14 Therefore, The Lord has brought upon us the disaster He prepared. The Lord our God was right to do all of these things, for we did not obey Him.
15 “O Lord our God, you brought lasting honor to your name by rescuing your people from Egypt in a great display of power. But we have sinned and are full of wickedness.
16 In view of all your faithful mercies, Lord, please turn your furious anger away from your city Jerusalem, your holy mountain. All the neighboring nations mock Jerusalem and your people because of our sins and the sins of our ancestors.
17 “O our God, hear your servant’s prayer! Listen as I plead. For your own sake, Lord, smile again on your desolate sanctuary.
18 “O my God, lean down and listen to me. Open your eyes and see our despair. See how your city—the city that bears your name—lies in ruins. We make this plea, not because we deserve help, but because of your mercy.
19 “O Lord, hear. O Lord, forgive. O Lord, listen and act! For your own sake, do not delay, O my God, for your people and your city bear your name.”

Romans 1:18-32 KJV (mankind)
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold The Truth in unrighteousness;
19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His Eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four footed beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed The Truth Of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than
The Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity (malicious behavior); whisperers (gossipers),
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable (heartless), unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

II Thessalonians 2:3-9 NLT (Coming Anti-Christ)
3 Don’t be fooled by what they say. For that day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness is revealed—the one who brings destruction.
4 He will exalt himself and defy everything that people call god and every object of worship. He will even sit in the temple of God, claiming that he himself is God.
5 Don’t you remember that I told you about all this when I was with you?
6 And you know what is holding him back, for he can be revealed only when his time comes.
7 For this lawlessness is already at work secretly, and it will remain secret until The One who is holding it back steps out of the way.
8 Then the man of lawlessness will be revealed, but The Lord Jesus will kill him with the breath of His mouth and destroy him by the splendor of His coming.
9 This man will come to do the work of Satan with counterfeit power and signs and miracles.

Titus 1:10 NLT
For there are many rebellious people who engage in useless talk and deceive others..."

James 4:17 KJV
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Revelation 12:7-18 KJV (Satan)
7 Then there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and his angels.
8 And the dragon lost the battle, and he and his angels were forced out of heaven.
9 This great dragon—the ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, the one deceiving the whole world—was thrown down to the earth with all his angels.
10 Then I heard a loud voice shouting across the heavens, “It has come at last— salvation and power and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Christ. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters has been thrown down to earth—the one who accuses them before our God day and night.
11 And they have defeated him by The Blood Of The Lamb and by their testimony. And they did not love their lives so much that they were afraid to die.
12 Therefore, rejoice, O heavens! And you who live in the heavens, rejoice! But terror will come on the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you in great anger, knowing that he has little time.”
13 When the dragon realized that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to The Male Child.
14 But she was given two wings like those of a great eagle so she could fly to the place prepared for her in the wilderness. There she would be cared for and protected from the dragon for a time, times, and half a time.
15 Then the dragon tried to drown the woman with a flood of water that flowed from his mouth.
16 But the earth helped her by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that gushed out from the mouth of the dragon.
17 And the dragon was angry at the woman and declared war against the rest of her children—all who keep God’s commandments and maintain their testimony for Jesus.
18 Then the dragon took his stand on the shore beside the sea.

Genesis 3:1 KJV
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which The Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

Since the very beginning, Satan has tried his best to bring about rebellion.
What is the reward of rebellion?

Revelation 20:10 KJV
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

Revelation 20:14 KJV
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

Revelation 20:15 KJV
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
