Bible Lesson: Parables-Our Lord's: Position Of A Servant.

Bible Lesson: Parables-Our Lord's: Position Of A Servant.

Occasion: The Servant's Responsibility, Is To Serve.

Lesson: The True Heart Of A Servant Is One Of Fidelity And Love, Not One Of Reward.

Bible Text:
Luke 17:7-10 NLT
7 “When a servant comes in from plowing or taking care of sheep, does his master say, ‘Come in and eat with me’?
8 No, he says, ‘Prepare my meal, put on your apron, and serve me while I eat. Then you can eat later.’
9 And does the master thank the servant for doing what he was told to do? Of course not.
10 In the same way, when you obey Me you should say, ‘We are unworthy servants who have simply done our duty.’”

What is your idea of a servant?
What is your idea of God's servant?
What is your idea of the rewards of God's servant?

Disparaging as it may sound, some of God's servants are actually working hard for grandiose positions of great glory, they hope, they will receive, some day on thee other side.

Poor impoverished souls.

Hebrew 5:12-14 KJV
12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.
13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in The Word Of Righteousness: for he is a babe.
14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Luke 17:9,10 NLT
9 And does the master thank the servant for doing what he was told to do? Of course not.
10 In the same way, when you obey Me you should say, ‘We are unworthy servants who have simply done our duty.’”

“Pastor, doesn't the Bible mention rewards to be given?”
Yes!

And our Bible also mentions this, from our Lord:

Mark 10:35-45 NLT (Service)
35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came over and spoke to Him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do us a favor.”
36 “What is your request?” He asked.
37 They replied, “When you sit on your glorious throne, we want to sit in places of honor next to you, one on your right and the other on your left.”
38 But Jesus said to them, “You don’t know what you are asking! Are you able to drink from the bitter cup of suffering I am about to drink? Are you able to be baptized with the baptism of suffering I must be baptized with?”
39 “Oh yes,” they replied, “we are able!” Then Jesus told them, “You will indeed drink from My bitter cup and be baptized with My baptism of suffering.
40 But I have no right to say who will sit on My right or My left. God has prepared those places for the ones He has chosen.”
41 When the ten other disciples heard what James and John had asked, they were indignant.
42 So Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them.
43 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant,
44 and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else.
45 For even The Son Of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

As seen, rewards, are a concern of God's discretion, not mans.

What is the true servant's reward?

It is being forever in his Master's house, serving Him, with a heart of fidelity and love, time without end. That is the reward of the servant of God. That is what he should long for and nothing else. Anything else would place the servants fidelity and love to his Master, in second place.

Psalm 42:1,2 NLT
1 As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God.
2 I thirst for God, The Living God. When can I go and stand before Him?

Psalm 73:25 KJV
Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.

Psalm 84:1,2 NLT
1 How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Of Heaven’s Armies.
2 I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of The Lord. With my whole being, body and soul, I will shout joyfully to The living God.

Revelation 5:1-14 KJV
1 And I saw in the right hand of Him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.
2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?
3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.
4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.
5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, The Lion Of The tribe Of Judah, The Root Of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts (living creatures), and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits Of God sent forth into all the earth.
7 And He came and took the book out of the right hand of Him that sat upon the throne.
8 And when He had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before
The Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odors, which are the prayers of saints.
9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing.
13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto The Lamb for ever and ever.
14 And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshiped Him that liveth for ever and ever.
