Bible Questions Answered: Chosen.

Bible Questions Answered:
“I have read these words many times, and there seems to be a lot of different thinking on this verse, so what does it mean?” (“many are called but few are chosen.”)

Bible Answer:

Bible Text:

Matthew 20:1-16 KJV
1 For the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which went out early in the morning to hire laborers into his vineyard.
2 And when he had agreed with the laborers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
3 And he went out about the third hour, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace,
4 And said unto them; Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way.
5 Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise.
6 And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing idle, and saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?
7 They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall ye receive.
8 So when even was come, the lord of the vineyard saith unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first.
9 And when they came that were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.
10 But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny.
11 And when they had received it, they murmured against the good man of the house,
12 Saying, These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day.
13 But he answered one of them, and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didst not thou agree with me for a penny?
14 Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this last, even as unto thee.
15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?
16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.

Matthew 22:1-14 KJV
1 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,
2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,
3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.
4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:
6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.
7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.
9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.
10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

In both of these two parables given by our Lord, He states, “many are called, but few are chosen.”

“You see pastor, God does select who will be saved, the word says so!”
Not so!
The biblical truth of these words is, many are called, meaning “all, of humanity,” but few are chosen, meaning of their “own-volition.”

And to substantiate these claims, let us turn to the word of the Lord.

CHOSEN:

Romans 8:28-30 KJV
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.
29 For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the Firstborn among many brethren.
30 Moreover whom He did predestinate, them He also called: and whom He called, them He also justified: and whom He justified, them He also glorified.

Who did God:
Predestinate (Foreordain)
Call
Justify
Glorify
???????

How could anyone miss it? Verse 29 “For whom He did foreknow,”
God in His infinite wisdom, saw history unfold before it came to pass.
In His seeing, He foreknew who would turn to Him, and those who would not!

Homily:
Homilies, never, of course, prove anything, but it goes without saying that they can help clarify truths.

Mother always put the cookie jar, high up on the top shelf of the cupboard in the kitchen. Why did she do it? She did it because she knew cookie marauders were never, very far away.

Our Father in heaven, has chosen His people, according to what He knew they would themselves would choose in life.

Isaiah 42:9 KJV
Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them

John 6:64 KJV (Foreknowledge of God.)
But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray Him.

John 13:11 KJV (Foreknowledge of God.)
For He knew who should betray Him; therefore said He, Ye are not all clean.

Acts 15:18 KJV
Known unto God are all His works from the beginning of the world.

God in His infinite wisdom, before the creation of the world, He so having known, planned His Predestinating Calling, Justifying, and Glorifying, of those who would turn to Him.

I Peter 1:2 KJV
Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

I Peter 1:2 NLT
God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and His Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed Him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
May God give you more and more grace and peace.

Isaiah 46:5,9,10 KJV
5 To whom will ye liken Me, and make Me equal, and compare Me, that we may be like?
9 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like Me,
10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure:

WHO IS THE KINGS INVITATION OPEN TO?

Isaiah 45:22 KJV
Look unto Me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.

Isaiah 55:1 KJV
Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

Matthew 22:9 KJV
Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.

John 1:12 KJV
But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name:

John 3:14-18 KJV
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up:
15 That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 6:37 KJV
All that the Father giveth Me shall come to Me; and him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out.

John 7:37 KJV
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and drink.

Acts 2:21 KJV
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Romans 5:18 KJV
Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of One the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

Romans 10:12,13 KJV
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto that all that call upon Him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

I Timothy 2:3,4 KJV
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Titus 2:11 KJV
For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

II Peter 3:9 KJV
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is long suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Revelation 22:17 KJV
And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

Our Lord's invitation is “open,” to ALL.
But dear friend, an invitation, presents a choice of acceptance, or rejection.
The invitation in of itself is "not," acceptance-salvation.

In our Lord's parable of the Kings son, the invitation was rejected for the most part.
“Many are called, but few are chosen.”

We make the choice here and now, but actually our God, has known our choices from before the foundations of the world.
What did God foresee, about you? Have you, accepted the King's invitation?

John 1:12 KJV
But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name:
