Bible Lesson: Miracles Of Jesus: Possessed Boy Healed.

Bible Lesson: Miracles Of Jesus: Possessed Boy Healed.

Bible Location: Hermon.

Bible Text: Mark 9:14-29 KJV (Matthew 17:14-20/ Luke 9:37-43)
14 And when He came to His disciples, He saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.
15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld Him, were greatly amazed, and running to Him saluted Him.
16 And He asked the scribes, What question ye with them?
17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
18 And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not.
19 He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto Me.
20 And they brought him unto Him: and when He saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
21 And He asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
28 And when He was come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
29 And He said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

Mark 9:14-29 NLT
14 When they returned to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd surrounding them, and some teachers of religious law were arguing with them.
15 When the crowd saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with awe, and they ran to greet Him.
16 “What is all this arguing about?” Jesus asked.
17 One of the men in the crowd spoke up and said, “Teacher, I brought my son so you could heal him. He is possessed by an evil spirit that won’t let him talk.
18 And whenever this spirit seizes him, it throws him violently to the ground. Then he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast out the evil spirit, but they couldn’t do it.”
19 Jesus said to them, “You faithless people! How long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring the boy to Me.”
20 So they brought the boy. But when the evil spirit saw Jesus, it threw the child into a violent convulsion, and he fell to the ground, writhing and foaming at the mouth.
21 “How long has this been happening?” Jesus asked the boy’s father. He replied, “Since he was a little boy.
22 The spirit often throws him into the fire or into water, trying to kill him. Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.”
23 “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.”
24 The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!”
25 When Jesus saw that the crowd of onlookers was growing, He rebuked the evil spirit. “Listen, you spirit that makes this boy unable to hear and speak,” He said. “I command you to come out of this child and never enter him again!”
26 Then the spirit screamed and threw the boy into another violent convulsion and left him. The boy appeared to be dead. A murmur ran through the crowd as people said, “He’s dead.”
27 But Jesus took him by the hand and helped him to his feet, and he stood up.
28 Afterward, when Jesus was alone in the house with His disciples, they asked Him, “Why couldn’t we cast out that evil spirit?”
29 Jesus replied, “This kind can be cast out only by prayer.”

Mark 9:14,15 KJV
14 And when He came to His disciples, He saw a great multitude about them, and the scribes questioning with them.
15 And straightway all the people, when they beheld Him, were greatly amazed, and running to Him saluted Him.

Jesus and His inner circle of disciples, Peter, James, and John, had just come from the mount (Luke 9:37) of transfiguration. No doubt the glory of God, yet remained with the Lord Jesus, as they descended to the other nine.

Exodus 34:29,30 NLT
29 When Moses came down Mount Sinai carrying the two stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant, he wasn’t aware that his face had become radiant because he had spoken to the Lord.
30 So when Aaron and the people of Israel saw the radiance of Moses’ face, they were afraid to come near him.

Mark 9:16-20 KJV
16 And He asked the scribes, What question ye with them?
17 And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;

A man step stepped forth to answer the Lord's question, it was the father of the boy.

As has been said before, and no doubt will be again, destitute is the man, who has no friends. And if you, have not reached out, or interceded for another, then your faith is that of the priest and Levite, who though they saw, passed by on the other side.
This young man, who could not help himself, had a friend, his father. His father would not, take no for an answer, not for his only child (Luke 9:38).

Here also we see that our Lord, publicly rebuked His nine disciples, for “not,” being able to help this vexed young man.

Revelation 3:19 KJV
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

Hebrews 12:6-11 KJV
6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth.
7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of Spirits, and live?
10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but He for our profit, that we might be partakers of His holiness.
11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Now had this been an enlightened age, they would have known all to well that this was merely a case of epilepsy, but because they were ignorant men, save for the Lord Jesus, they called it a spirit.
But were we to descend to verse 25, there to we would see that our Saviour, called this a case of possession, by an evil spirit!

“Oh pastor, don't you see what a Pandora's box you have opened! Why what are you saying, that every case of epilepsy is by, oppression, or possession of an evil spirit?”

Well, what can safely be said is this!
Where there is such a case in your church, it is the duty, of the pastor and deacons to set aside a time of prayer and fasting, to bring such a one before the congregation, and to lay hands on him, and ask that the living God, set him free! And if we do not the things that we as a Christian people are called to do, then at best we are failures such as were the nine, and not the Soldiers of faith, that our Lord has called us to be!

Ephesians 6:10-18 KJV
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Mark 16:15-18 NLT
15 And then He told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.
16 Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned.
17 These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in My name, and they will speak in new languages.

18 They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them.
(This verse speaks of Godly protection for His workers/ this is never a voluntary action! These are evil things that may come out against the workers of God. Acts 28:3-Paul at Melita/ Matthew 4:5-7 Temptation of Christ. Psalm 34:7 “The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear Him, and delivereth them. Luke 10:19 KJV “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”)

They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”

Friends, either we believe and stand for all the Council of God, or we do not, stand at all!

Mark 9:21-24 KJV
21 And He asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

A most difficult question, how could such a monstrous evil come upon a child?
And the best answer we have is the one given to us.

Exodus 20:5 KJV
"...I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers
upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me;"

This evil spiritual entity, stands to warn, warn us of the dangers of association with sin, and disassociation with God.

23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

Matthew 21:21,22 KJV
21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

Romans 10:17 KJV
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Luke 17:5,6 KJV
5 And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.
6 And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.

Every day, may the prayer of God's children be, Lord, Increase our faith.

Philippians 4:13 KJV
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Mark 9:25-27 KJV
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.

Jesus, didn't rebuke a disease, ….......Jesus rebuked a demonic spirit.
And the demonic spirit, rent and tore at the body of the young child, but leave, it did.

John 11:25, 26 KJV
25 Jesus said unto her (Martha), I am the Resurrection, and the Life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die. Believest thou this?

I John 3:8 KJV
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Mark 9:28,29 KJV
28 And when He was come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, Why could not we cast him out?
29 And He said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

Christian people, what lies before us, is success or failure, all to be determined by our own personal resolve.
Certainly there are the needs of countless others, ever before us. Certainly there is the assurance that
our God is with us, and by our calling upon His name, through His power and might, He will route the enemy.

Deuteronomy 31:6 KJV
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, He it is that doth go with thee; He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
