Bible Lesson: Miracles Of Jesus-Demoniac Healed

Bible Lesson: Miracles Of Jesus-Demoniac Healed:

Location: Capernaum, lies on westward side of the Sea of Galilee.

Text: Mark 1:21-26 KJV

Mark 1:21-28 KJV
21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day He entered into the synagogue, and taught.
22 And they were astonished at His doctrine: for He taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,
24 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
26 And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth He even the unclean spirits, and they do obey Him.
28 And immediately His fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.

Preceding verses 16-20, tell us the Lord Jesus had just called Peter, Andrew, James and John, and they followed Him.

Mark 1:21,22 KJV
21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day He entered into the synagogue, and taught.
22 And they were astonished at His doctrine: for He taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.

It was the habit of Jesus to be in place of worship on the sabbath.

Luke 4:16 KJV
"...and, as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read."

Hebrews 10:24,25 NLT
24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.
25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.

As a Christian, be sure your custom is to be in the Lord's house on the Lord's day.

The Lord Jesus taught the scriptures with authority, full of the Spirit, after all He was the very “Word,” of the Father.

John 1:1-5 KJV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In Him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

I John 1:1-3 KJV
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.

I John 5:7 KJV
For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

Revelation 19:11-13 KJV
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He doth judge and make war.
12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns; and He had a name written, that no man knew, but He Himself.
13 And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called The Word of God.

Mark 1:23,24 KJV
23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,
24 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

It has been well stated, that the only place where skepticism reigns is with evil men.
Certainly not with evil spirits!

“...Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.”

Unsolicited testimony from evil spirits.

Matthew 8:29 KJV
And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God?
Art thou come hither to torment us before the time?

Mark 3:11 KJV
And unclean spirits, when they saw Him, fell down before Him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God.

Luke 4:41 KJV
"And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God..."

Acts 19:15 KJV
And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

James 2:19 KJV
Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

Mark 1:24
Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

In this verse we see plural personal pronouns, used no less than three times.
“us, we, us.” They, the evil spirits, yet spake with one voice, “I know who thou art...”

We see this also in the story of the demoniac of Gadara, Matthew 8:28-34.

What had happened to this individual, so as to become so possessed, we are not told.

Mark 1:25-28 KJV
25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
26 And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth He even the unclean spirits, and they do obey Him.

What a wonderful picture of our Lord's supreme authority.

Matthew 28:18 KJV
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth.

John 5:26,27 KJV
26 For as the Father hath life in Himself; so hath He given to the Son to have life in Himself;
27 And hath given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.

Mark 1:28
And immediately His fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.

Never had the people seen anything like this, and the word quickly spread through Galilee.

Today yet, the work of God goes forth, with the presence of the resurrection Lord, with His people.

Luke 10:17-20 KJV
17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
18 And He said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice,
because your names are written in heaven.
